Only wish Google would offer the same OS and security updates that Samsung has been doing!! Keep up the great work, always enjoy your informative videos
Your comment made my night Gerard! Thank you so much for taking the time to share some kindness and support the channel. Wow 😊 I feel the same way, I only made the big mistake of overcharging my device so I'll need one sooner than you. Noob mistake by me 😅
What I don't like about the S22 to the S23 is the designs. The S22 got rid of the curved back. I like how Samsung reverted back to flat screens, but the curved backs is one of the reasons why it's still comfortable to hold. And with the durable screen, It's like a middle ground. And the fact that with the S23, Samsung tried to throw out their unique designs just to be an Apple clone (again)
I went S21+ since it was second generation 120hz device and that was important for me. Still snappy, good battery, and gonna get Android 14/15 + 1 extra year of security updates.
Yes you are right, I have S21+ for 2 years now and the phone is great. I de-bloated it from pre-installed bloat and from some samsung apps, features, and its fast as on the first boot. No reason to upgrade to S23. But still, i´m waiting for pixel 8 and then I´ll decide whether keep S21+ or get the Px8. Nice video, stay safe, Lubomir from Slovakia.
Lol I'm still on the S20. Looks the same as the S23, has more features like microSD, and the cameras have diminishing returns at this point. Also I still get monthly software updates and the phone is just as fast as it was 3 years ago.
5:02 you put dark theme on s21 and you put no dark theme on s23 for anyone who doesn't know what dark mode it makes everything darker and as you can see the menu is in black while the light mode has it in white 😂 plus you even have different background photos 🤦🏿♀️🤷♀️ why do people do this they would show different background photos so they can't see a direct comparison and the background on the s23 has lighter colors while the s22 background photo is with darker shades of colors 🤣
If you say the S21 is better you're huffing copium. I just got a refurbished S21 Ultra to upgrade over my Note 10+ but no one can seriously say the S23 is worse and not be kidding themselves.
Im just a bit sad that the display from the s20 waa way better that anything else came since that. 1440p vs 1080p even it doesnt make a lot of difference you still can see it.
S23 is even worth upgrading over the s22. With the snapdragon battery efficiency it's the biggest upgrade there will probably be in long time (specially against exynos cpu) And the s23 is the most complet phone i've ever tried
I wanted the better chip set. Also free upgrade... why wouldn't you? In 2 years we may get the BIG jump and ill be able to get a nice trade in value vs what i would get from a 4 year old phone.
my goal was to show you exactly what I saw when I switched. not to butter it up. to show you exactly what I saw when I got my first reaction. that was the point of it. cheers, Ryan.
No, the biggest question is whether to switch from S10 to S23 :D, mainly it's the camera and battery and the os version support that is changed; why should I throw 95% used device for a newer model?
So, what if I buy once in live a super expensive professional canon camera, and then whatever phone I buy the camera won't be a special feature :D. Then we are left with the battery and OS support. Battery can last for more than 5 years. What's left is the os support, it will last for 5 years then you install some Android alternative and you can still use it over 10 years.
Dropped my s21 5g so many times and in water too, and although speakers aren't optimal, everything works fine to where I'm still comfortable watching videos on it. Love samsung idk why ppl hate androids so much. Like keep samsung's name out of it, it's a diff kind!
I'M STILL USING MY 4G SAMSUNG S7 THAT CAME OUT IN 2016, MAKING IT 7 YRS OLD. STILL WORKS FINE THE ONLY THINGS MY PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT ARE NEWER APPS, LIKE THE MY BANK APP. I PREFER SAMSUNG SO I DECIDE TO WATCH A FEW REVIEWS ON THE GALAXY S21 AND SEE IF IT WAS WORTH BUYING, YOUR VIDEO WAS MY 3RD AND SO I WILL BUY IT ON ON WEDNESDAY FROM AMAZON ITS UNLOCKED AND ONLY COMES IN PHANTOM GRAY. HOPEFULLY, IT WILL BE A GOOD PHONE FOR ANOTHER 3 YEARS THEN I'LL GET THE SAMSUNG S23. SO INSTEAD OF WAITING 7 YRS, I WILL BUY A NEW USED PHONE EVERY 3 YRS.
I had to upgrade from my S21 to the S23 due to issues with my charge port. I really wish I had my S21 back. Its sleeker and the screen is bigger. the S23 feels so clunky in comparison.
i normally upgrade every 2yrs on average. stuck with the Samsung Galaxy S-range for many years now. I think my 1st was an S4. the material of the back: majority of people will use a back cover which greatly improves the asthetics of the S21 in my opinion. i don't know of anyone who uses peak brightness and therefore i don't see this as an issue (or "upgrade"). battery is so negligable that i think it's too tough a call to announce either a winner. (comparing each when they were new, obviously). for once, i agree with a tie for cameras. i wouldn't be able to choose a outright winner. both are excellent. benchmark scores: naturally going to be improved in some form on the newer device. this is why i personally didn't go for the S23+ (i had a S21+) but instead decided early this year to upgrade from S21+ to S22 Ultra. as the new S23 launch was only a few weeks away at the time, i was able to pick up my S22 Ultra for literally half the cost of the S23 Ultra. actually less than half the cost. a steal in my opinion. definitely a great upgrade from the S21+. much more so than any huge differences i'd have seen from the S23+. only downside is, i'd consider anything less than the Ultra a big downgrade in future.
Thanks for sharing Don! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm usually every two years too, my previous phone usually ends up going to one of my loved ones so the S series update commitment is still really important. I'd argue that the S23 is the first time I'd say you're wrong with your argument about anything less than ultra is a downgrade. The S23 standard might have a smaller screen, but it's basically the same phone as the ultra, minus the stylus. It's an insanely powerful phone.
@Ryan McLeod I usually try to recoup some of the cost towards my new phone by selling the old one on ebay. Oh. Please don't get me wrong. What I meant was purely from the name. Having the "Ultra" model and then having a "Standard" or even "Plus". Just doesn't have the same ring to it. (No pun intended). So, it sounds on paper at least, like it's a downgraded model, even though it's a never range. But sure, I would probably agree that both would be an upgrade. I think if I had been given the choice (at a similar value) of the S23 against the S22 Ultra, it would have been a tough choice to make. But in the end I went for the refurbished "like new" Ultra from a well known highstreet store which still ended up cheaper by some margin than the standard S23. This was my reasoning behind my phone choice of preference. Also, the reviews I'd read comparing the S22 and S23 Ultra models wasn't all that significant to me and so I saw the S22 as an absolute bargain. Too good to miss.
The camera on the S21 is much better than in the S23 and S24, this is very strange for Samsung, especially evening photos, the difference is very big in favor of the S21. For those people who currently use S21, I do not recommend changing it to S23. I now have S23 and I'm very disappointed :((
Of course the phone that's newer will functionally be better in most ways. Better display, better processor, better cameras. The question people need to ask though is whether or not it's actually worth spending the money once they have the two year old model paid off.
And whether it is environmentally responsible to ditch a 2-year old phone that will still get 2 more OS updates and 3 years of security updates for a shiny brand new thing.
The best phones are the s6 s7 s8 s9 the s21+ is a pile of shit hate it beyond all belief now the s24 is out not sure if i would buy that s21 battery takes hours to charge connection is of and on and shit camera is good but look closer the edges are fussy not great dont buy it...
@@Mukatutu it has a better camera than the Google pixel 3a xl. Swipe keyboard and finger print scanner work better on the pixel 3a xl. Photo editors are the same except s21 can remove unwanted things in a image. That's a big plus. I still use a pixel 3 for astrophotography
@@RealRyanMcLeod Just saying, generally. Im glad some tech channels at least sometimes say that changing a phone every 1-2 years is not necessary, but still...
I had an S21 for about two years. I dropped it a whole bunch of times. So I broke the front screen, the battery life was bad and it kept overheating. I just bought a refurbished S23 off Amazon for $500, but It looks brand new. After only a few days, I already like it a lot. It's better than my S21 indeed 👍
I have an S21 Exynos 2100. Now I made the comparisons. 3Dmark wildlife average score 6600 40 FPS. In Geekbench 6, 1452 single and 3637 multiple scores were achieved. However, when shooting videos, it overheats and the battery drains very quickly, but the quality is great.
801 single core S21 Snapdragon ? My s21 exynos Europe version has 1411 single core and 3589 multi core on same geekbench 6.. i'm consiering moving to s23 because of battery .. kinda low performing now vs when it was new - coming from s9 buyed in nov 2018 and switched to s21 only because of battery life because camera side .. personally i think s9 was better than s21 (s21 buyed nov 2021, replaced battery on s9 and charging port because it was some how damage my cable and don't get fast charge anytime and after that i got wet port message and only wireless charge on s9 which is now at my mom - working but vs s21 kinda laggish performing - maybe because i'm now used to 120hz display on s21)
Im only upgrading because my teen needs a new phone and I could use 256gb instead of 128.. I get s23+, he gets my old s21. ;-) S21 still runs Fortnite and other games very well. The pics are quite good as well.
Dropped my s21 on gravel and was living with a slowly spreading Crack for a year and finally decided to pay the $200 insurance claim for a replacement. Somehow I lucked out and got an S23 instead of a refurbished S21. Bit seeing a lot of difference, except it does seem to operate a bit quicker and more smoothly.
I change my phones every 2yrs when contract ends. Phones will still have market value by then, so easier to sell. Top-up & get new mobile with renewed contract. Currently having the S21. Probably will get the s23.
I keep my phone until is stops working . My last one I had forever and it was a mess trying to get a new one. This one is acting up so I went ahead and started to make the switch.
Good video, but why did you show the brightness comparison with the S21 in dark mode? I feel like it would've been an easier comparison with both in the same mode
Ouch, that music at the beginning. I thought my chair was creaking and breaking. Then the music was turned up and it was out of tune and out of sync. Yikes, is this what music has become?
That's another angle I considered talking about. Such deep discounts on the S21 for sure! I still love mine. It's a hard sell to upgrade. Carriers are always trying to get me to upgrade hahahaha
I did the same thing. My S9 was working perfectly, but since upgrades were no longer supported, it was time for an upgrade. The S22 had just come out, so I got a decent price on a brand new S21. I see no reason to replace it until upgrades are not available.
I'm getting a used s21 and I'm already feeling a downgrade from s9+ because heart rate sensor and 3.5mm jack. Screen resolution is low as well. 835 vs 888 wont make much of difference imo. Don't know why people/tech channels nowadays make you feel that you are obsolete if you don't have latest phone. If I hadnt dropped this s9+ ruining screen and then front camera, I'd have rather keep it for more time. If i had option to purchase it for cheap, I'd happily buy s9+ again haha
@@HongLe-jv1hy I completely understand, I still use my S9 as my second phone and will likely buy another one refurbed for insanely cheap. Honestly the things I miss the most are the rear fingerprint sensor , micro sd and the iris scanner. As for the heart rate and jack, I just use my watch and buds haha. That said though I do notice a difference in pretty much everything else, especially when I'm multitasking my phone does not get as hot.
Same. S21 is peak Samsung. All the phones since the S21 are just incremental cosmetic upgrades, and some I don't care for. (I just don't like the S23. PERIOD) the S21 is where Samsung peaked.

Its still great yes, but the exynos variant... I have to charge at least twice a day and have a lot of micro lags, I will switch. Still a great overall phone tho, even in 2023,
@@lxnd mine's the Exynos variant as well.. perfectly fine in my use case
(I mean, depends on use case
After putting on a cheap protector, the screen just loves to freak out)
@@lxnd I am planning to buy used sd version. Is it worth?
@@sajeebcreations5685 the sd version is really good, if the phone isnt too old the battery will be fine too
but you might have to charge a second time in the evening, depends on your usage
@@lxnd I am not heavy user just a casual user.I almost spend my day outside so a little bit of scrolling and camera usage is all i need.
Will i need to charge it again?
Excellent comparison video!! I have the S21 and I am still getting great battery life and performance from this phone, so I plan to keep it until Samsung stops supporting it or if the phone breaks down and stops working. Overall I am very impressed with what Samsung has been doing with their smartphones in the last three years!! Only wish Google would offer the same OS and security updates that Samsung has been doing!! Keep up the great work, always enjoy your informative videos
Your comment made my night Gerard! Thank you so much for taking the time to share some kindness and support the channel. Wow 😊
I feel the same way, I only made the big mistake of overcharging my device so I'll need one sooner than you. Noob mistake by me 😅
@@RealRyanMcLeod So replace your battery only not your smartphone 🌍.
Maybe snap version is fine, eu version with exynos is garbage
What I don't like about the S22 to the S23 is the designs.
The S22 got rid of the curved back. I like how Samsung reverted back to flat screens, but the curved backs is one of the reasons why it's still comfortable to hold. And with the durable screen, It's like a middle ground.
And the fact that with the S23, Samsung tried to throw out their unique designs just to be an Apple clone (again)
I have a Galaxy S21 and I'm going to upgrade to the Pixel 8 😊
I think the Pixel 8 might be the one... I'll do a video on what I hope for that phone later this year.
S22 more bright, with you showing s21 in dark mode and darker wallpaper, are you crazy,.?
I went S21+ since it was second generation 120hz device and that was important for me. Still snappy, good battery, and gonna get Android 14/15 + 1 extra year of security updates.
lets face it... any phone design aesthetic is mute... because we're all gonna put a case on it.
Much love my friend, keep smiling and thanks for supporting the channel!
Just uninstall the unnecessary apps you don't use ever
Happy to have a S21 5G, sad for haven't a S23 🥲 (but if I change, I'll go with the Plus, like big screens).
My S21 has a great battery life. I was thinking of switching, just to see what was out there
I'm happy with my S21.
S23 is even worth upgrading over the s22. With the snapdragon battery efficiency it's the biggest upgrade there will probably be in long time (specially against exynos cpu)
And the s23 is the most complet phone i've ever tried
How is the battery compared to s22
@@victorkash4718 Night and day, the difference is huge
Does your S23 main camera have the banana blur problem?
@@stanleystevens6278bro whaaaaat?! 😂
I wanted the better chip set. Also free upgrade... why wouldn't you? In 2 years we may get the BIG jump and ill be able to get a nice trade in value vs what i would get from a 4 year old phone.
There is a mistake in comparison. You had s21 in dark mode whereas s23 was not. So difference even though limited.. Appeared to be more.
my goal was to show you exactly what I saw when I switched. not to butter it up. to show you exactly what I saw when I got my first reaction. that was the point of it.
cheers,
Ryan.
No, the biggest question is whether to switch from S10 to S23 :D, mainly it's the camera and battery and the os version support that is changed; why should I throw 95% used device for a newer model?
My S10's battery in 5 years went down to 90% capacity. So nothing kills these phones.
So, what if I buy once in live a super expensive professional canon camera, and then whatever phone I buy the camera won't be a special feature :D. Then we are left with the battery and OS support. Battery can last for more than 5 years. What's left is the os support, it will last for 5 years then you install some Android alternative and you can still use it over 10 years.
why are you comparing brightness with dark mode in s21
Dropped my s21 5g so many times and in water too, and although speakers aren't optimal, everything works fine to where I'm still comfortable watching videos on it. Love samsung idk why ppl hate androids so much. Like keep samsung's name out of it, it's a diff kind!
Watching from my s21
At 4.50 second Why S21 is in Dark Mode and S23 is in Normal Mode? That doesn’t look fair
I had to upgrade from my S21 to the S23 due to issues with my charge port. I really wish I had my S21 back. Its sleeker and the screen is bigger. the S23 feels so clunky in comparison.
It's only 0.1 inche difference, is it really noticeble?
i normally upgrade every 2yrs on average. stuck with the Samsung Galaxy S-range for many years now.
I had the s23 but actually sent it back. I DID NOT like how the pics came out on the S23
I can tell you are also a WWE Fan. LIKE ME AND LOVES TO LISTEN TO LINKIN PARK. 😅
I'll wait for s24 or s25 maybe, I'm still impressed with my s21, love its design
s21 has unique design 🫶, compare with others series
The camera on the S21 is much better than in the S23 and S24, this is very strange for Samsung, especially evening photos, the difference is very big in favor of the S21. For those people who currently use S21, I do not recommend changing it to S23. I now have S23 and I'm very disappointed :((
Im still using Huawei P20 Pro so an upgrade to either of these would definitely be on the cards, probably to S23+
You do know you can change the battery ??? Lol
my s21 is overheating and battery life is poor
Same here...
Of course the phone that's newer will functionally be better in most ways. Better display, better processor, better cameras. The question people need to ask though is whether or not it's actually worth spending the money once they have the two year old model paid off.
And that's exactly what this video was about... So hopefully you watched the entire thing before you left that comment lol. I agree with you bro
And whether it is environmentally responsible to ditch a 2-year old phone that will still get 2 more OS updates and 3 years of security updates for a shiny brand new thing.
On 5min you show the display, 1 screen is on darkmode and the other on day mode ? Why ?
The best phones are the s6 s7 s8 s9 the s21+ is a pile of shit hate it beyond all belief now the s24 is out not sure if i would buy that s21 battery takes hours to charge connection is of and on and shit camera is good but look closer the edges are fussy not great dont buy it...
5:02 I still don't get the point of making your phone as bright as a sun (Unless you're outdoors at day)
the time to upgrade has now only come down to: has my current phone been broken or stolen? If not, then its not worth upgrading
I just sold my new s22 and went back to the s20. Works better with 12 GB of ram.
One of the worst comparisons I've ever seen.. The display comparison was so BS.
Anyway.
I just bought a used s21 to replace my Google Pixel 3a XL that I also purchased used. Thanks for the review. 👍
How is it faring so far?
@@Mukatutu it has a better camera than the Google pixel 3a xl. Swipe keyboard and finger print scanner work better on the pixel 3a xl. Photo editors are the same except s21 can remove unwanted things in a image. That's a big plus. I still use a pixel 3 for astrophotography
switching 21 to 23... overconsumption at its best.
The video is actually promoting keeping your S21 if you watch to the end.
@@RealRyanMcLeod Just saying, generally. Im glad some tech channels at least sometimes say that changing a phone every 1-2 years is not necessary, but still...
Remember the time when diminished battery=battery swap? iPhone users excuse.
Sticking to my note 9 for now. Not a fan of screens with notches or cutout for the camera.
I honest dont care what my phone body is made of im putting a case over it
Samsung is Leader of Android Brand!!! 👍🏻😃👍🏻
I bought S23, amazing compact phone.
Too late I already updated. 😅
I'm still using my galaxy S10 Plus and it still does all things very well.
You will lose UWB(Ultra Wide Band )
I still have a note 10 plus for 3 years
Im only upgrading because my teen needs a new phone and I could use 256gb instead of 128.. I get s23+, he gets my old s21. ;-)
S21 still runs Fortnite and other games very well.
I keep my phone until is stops working
. My last one I had forever and it was a mess trying to get a new one. This one is acting up so I went ahead and started to make the switch.
Upgrade after 2 generations? You wouldn't tell a difference, I'm still running the galaxy S8 and I don't think there's a reason to upgrade yet
I have S23+ and is great phone I have before S21 and I can only say to S23 is more beter
What are your pick favorites on android figurines (not the anime android)
How about s21 ultra vs the standard s23. Which has a better quality camera for videos and pictures?😊
Meanwhile, I just upgraded to the S21 from the S9, gotta say I love it, especially because I can get it for cheaper and not miss out on much. :D
Just upgraded to the S23 plus from my S21 but watching this after 😂 but thanks to a contract upgrade. Thanks for this video!
Swapped it although I think it wasn't 💯 necessary but I guess it's ok since my old phone I'll give it as a present to someone who needs it..
If I got battery problems with S21 after two years then I would not switch to new model from same brand. Epic fail intro.
I have an S21. When i compared with my brothers s23 side by side. I found bezels on s23 thicker than my s21.
So you put the S21 display on dark mode in display section, I wonder why?
The s21 design is still sexier and better. The Camera design of s21 looks beautiful. Not worth for an upgrade using s21plus
I still think the s21 is still a good phone thanks to android 14 the battery has drained less i should know. I have one
Same. S21 is peak Samsung. All the phones since the S21 are just incremental cosmetic upgrades, and some I don't care for. (I just don't like the S23. PERIOD) the S21 is where Samsung peaked.
@@jaynycha1705 I like what you said keep up the good work.
Enjoyed the Brian Tong-like presentation format, but with its own creative spin. Love the work; keep it up.

S23 - 5 vs. S21 - 0
I still miss my S9 and Note 10...So come Friday when my S21 come I'll be a happy a camper
