Thank you for your more than useful review.. I have anan1 Ultra 5g also from Verison and my phone has and continues to work well to the point of not neebeinganw phone, but I have to admit I saw the S23 and kinda wondered. I did not not tillill your review that the back camera area was different the my current 21. Still my 21 is doing what I need it to and it's paid otf I also didn't know about samsung warrieny so that GEM you dropped was very helped making my decision to stay with my current model. Also, like you I was considering a Pixal however most merchants don't accept Google pay or apple pay BUT they WILL accpet SAMSUNG PAY merchants like the US post office also Krispy Kreme doesn't take Apple pay just Google and Samsung and as you might have guess I am a big mobilel pay user, so that also played a deciding factor. But thank you again for you wonderful and VERY HELPFULL review. When it's my Samsung if finally ouf for the out then I will get a new Samsung phone

*NEVER* buy a phoje in its release year. You will always be paying more than it's worth, like a sort of "novelty fee", just to own the latest toy in the store. I alays buy the phone in its second year, when there's a newer one available. Much cheaper than the newest for an insignificant amount of performance less. Sometimes the old one is even better than the new one bc samsung is constantly removing features from their phones. My old s5 had infrared, my s21 didn't even came with a charger.. I only buy new phones bc the batteries start to become crappy after a few years, but if you stick to the flagship models you're likely to never get lags or performance problems.

I'm still using the s10. theres nothing wrong with it. ive changed the battery earlier this year, and it still performs. sure, performance is comparable to a midranger and the battery life is somewhat mediocre in todays standards. but it does the job, plus it has more features than Samsung's offerings today. i will keep using it until i see a compelling upgrade from my s10. keeping unnecessary e-waste from landfills is also a consideration in my books.

The first year I got S21+ it was acing it with all aspects. Battery, camera, smoothness and so on. However, as soon as an update installed around in March 2023, the phone started to "seem" bad in processing speed, battery and specially camera.
I am a regular user of basic browsing and youtube and music. No games, I tweaked all background apps to stop functioning.
Battery: As soon as i take it out of the plug, 5% of batter is gone within less than 10 minutes even if not being used.
Camera: Camera recording became very sluggish and blurry, the 30x zoom used to capture the moon with details on surfuce, however that is not the case as the moon now becoming blurry and out of focus.
Processing: If I play music on car bluetooth, and lock the devie it will lag for 5 seconds and the song will be stuttering. if i navigate apps while music is on (Anghami, samsung music, back ground youtube) then all sounds are stuttering.
It is a shame that samsung is having such targeted & planned downgrade of performace.
PS: I dont download ay weird apps, as I said I am a basic phone user (Email, camera, music, notes, youtube). Not even clicking unknown clicks types of user.

The S22 got rid of the curved back. I like how Samsung reverted back to flat screens, but the curved backs is one of the reasons why it's still comfortable to hold. And with the durable screen, It's like a middle ground.
And the fact that with the S23, Samsung tried to throw out their unique designs just to be an Apple clone (again)

i normally upgrade every 2yrs on average. stuck with the Samsung Galaxy S-range for many years now. I think my 1st was an S4.
the material of the back: majority of people will use a back cover which greatly improves the asthetics of the S21 in my opinion. i don't know of anyone who uses peak brightness and therefore i don't see this as an issue (or "upgrade"). battery is so negligable that i think it's too tough a call to announce either a winner. (comparing each when they were new, obviously).
for once, i agree with a tie for cameras. i wouldn't be able to choose a outright winner. both are excellent. benchmark scores: naturally going to be improved in some form on the newer device.
this is why i personally didn't go for the S23+ (i had a S21+) but instead decided early this year to upgrade from S21+ to S22 Ultra. as the new S23 launch was only a few weeks away at the time, i was able to pick up my S22 Ultra for literally half the cost of the S23 Ultra. actually less than half the cost. a steal in my opinion. definitely a great upgrade from the S21+. much more so than any huge differences i'd have seen from the S23+. only downside is, i'd consider anything less than the Ultra a big downgrade in future.

Thanks for sharing Don! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm usually every two years too, my previous phone usually ends up going to one of my loved ones so the S series update commitment is still really important.
I'd argue that the S23 is the first time I'd say you're wrong with your argument about anything less than ultra is a downgrade. The S23 standard might have a smaller screen, but it's basically the same phone as the ultra, minus the stylus. It's an insanely powerful phone.

    • @yoksnod

@Ryan McLeod I usually try to recoup some of the cost towards my new phone by selling the old one on ebay.
Oh. Please don't get me wrong. What I meant was purely from the name. Having the "Ultra" model and then having a "Standard" or even "Plus". Just doesn't have the same ring to it. (No pun intended). So, it sounds on paper at least, like it's a downgraded model, even though it's a never range. But sure, I would probably agree that both would be an upgrade. I think if I had been given the choice (at a similar value) of the S23 against the S22 Ultra, it would have been a tough choice to make. But in the end I went for the refurbished "like new" Ultra from a well known highstreet store which still ended up cheaper by some margin than the standard S23. This was my reasoning behind my phone choice of preference. Also, the reviews I'd read comparing the S22 and S23 Ultra models wasn't all that significant to me and so I saw the S22 as an absolute bargain. Too good to miss.

The camera on the S21 is much better than in the S23 and S24, this is very strange for Samsung, especially evening photos, the difference is very big in favor of the S21. For those people who currently use S21, I do not recommend changing it to S23. I now have S23 and I'm very disappointed :((

I'm getting a used s21 and I'm already feeling a downgrade from s9+ because heart rate sensor and 3.5mm jack. Screen resolution is low as well. 835 vs 888 wont make much of difference imo. Don't know why people/tech channels nowadays make you feel that you are obsolete if you don't have latest phone. If I hadnt dropped this s9+ ruining screen and then front camera, I'd have rather keep it for more time. If i had option to purchase it for cheap, I'd happily buy s9+ again haha
