  • The six Centurion tanks were collected from Lulworth at noon on 13th May 1945 and immediately set off for the port of Southampton. They arrived at No. 20 Transit Camp in the evening. The next morning, they were embarked on Landing Craft Tank (L.C.T.) 798 and 1035 commanded by Lieutenant. C. D. Mitchell and Sub Lieutenant M. F. Bowe, respectively.
On Tuesday, 15th May, the L.C.T.s set sail from Southampton, but stopped overnight at Newhaven and Deal before arriving at Ostend and then finally Antwerp on the evening of the 18th. Disembarking on the 19th, they underwent two days of inspections, including final drive checks on vehicle P.11 before a road march to Nijmegen, a distance of 142 km.

Nothing surprising there. Its surprising that IIIrd Reich didnt surrender in 1943 or 1944 cause they had no chance for winning.

The British shermans used 30 06.

Can you imagine the war of 1946? The Americans were ready to field the new T29, T30, T32, and T34 heavy tanks, M26 Pershing gradually replacing the Sherman.
Germans were using the Entwicklung series tanks.
The Soviets using IS-3s in great numbers.
And the British are now using Centurion tanks.
Well, it would be impossible because Germany would be atom bombed in July or August 1945. But still, the war would be more interesting.

Similar except the bit where centurions were FAR more reliable. Given that 6 tanks undertook 700 miles of driving and between them suffered 2 breakdowns averages at about 2400 miles between breakdowns in an early production tank. That's some 21 times more reliable than late production panthers, which were in turn twice as reliable than early Panthers. Centurion also not only had better crew dynamics compared to Comet, but was leagues ahead of Panther in terms of crew ergonomics, namely seeing out of the tank. All of these factors point to a far more reliable tank with a much higher probability to be shooting first..
Also the Centurion was famous for its cross-country performance with the performance on hills in Korea putting it where nobody expected a tank for example. Sure there wasn't many mountains in the lowlands to be using that sort of performance around, but the ablility to just fling the thing around expected routes of attack would've also chalked it up another one against Panther whose crews were cautious of boggy or hilly terrain due to their aforementioned reliability issues.
