  • The E100 super heavy tank is one of the most fascinating tanks of Nazi Germany. While it does not have near mythical combat legends of the Tigers or the sheer weight of the Maus, its partially built hull was impressive enough to cement it into tank history for decades to come. The obscurity and nature of the project has resulted in a vast number of speculatory conversions and what-if modifications. One of these gray areas is the Sturmgeschütz E100, a short-lived plan of converting the E100 into an assault gun. Unfortunately, there are no remaining blueprints of the layout, which has left the appearance of this vehicle up to much debate. The most well known representation is that with a rear mounted casemate, made famous by Wargaming's game, World of Tanks (WoT).

    thanks for clearing things up. in WOT, there is no 'assault gun' category so they are grouped together with TDs in the 'tank destroyer' category. you can use TD's for either application in the game. one thing that the two classes tend to have in common is the turretless design or quite limited turret rotation capabilities.

    Okay, one shot kills at four kilometres are impressive (assuming the crew could actually hit targets with the first shot every single time). But that thing would be an artillery magnet at best.

    • @ptonpc
      @ptonpc 3 года назад +4

      @Steve Arthur They don't have to be. Unless you think this thing could have waded through artillery and bombs. You don't even need a hard kill. Either damage the terrain around it or equipment on it. Or deny it and its comrades the ability to resupply.

    • @ptonpc
      @ptonpc 3 года назад +6

      @Steve Arthur Yes. Strangely enough that would be what the engine, fuel, transmission, tracks, driver etc are for. However as the Germans found out during WW2, artillery can be used to break up attacks and if you don't have control of the skies, you are vulnerable.

    • @ptonpc
      @ptonpc 3 года назад +5

      @Steve Arthur Tanks do not exist in a vacuum. They need support otherwise they tend to be knocked out with 'relative' ease /Depending on the circumstances of course. I am not saying a tank will lose every time but there is a reason why they don't attack things all by themselves. Instead they usually have infantry support or similar.
      You do realise that a pretty common tactic was for aircraft and/or artillery to be called on to targets of interest or stubborn points of resistance? Yes, even Germany did that.
      You do realise that aircraft fly right? You do know self propelled guns exist? You do know that artillery pieces can move? You do know that attacks and defence often involve artillery/ tank / infantry support etc? You have seen pictures of tanks disabled by artillery, wither by direct hits / near misses / crew abandoning them / lack of fuel and or ammunition? You do realise that vehicles need fuel to move and ammunition to fight?
      Real combat is not like WoT or WT.
      I'm sure if Germany had thousands of tanks of this type & the logistics to support it, the war would have dragged on for a bit longer but in the end, it would have been defeated.
      Now I've spent way longer replying to you than deserve. Have a nice life.

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 3 года назад +9

      Why keep it except for historical value? It was not great war trophy, being a lump of incomplete hull for a vehicle that never ran. It offered little new insight into tank design, making it of little value as a research aid, especially when the British could talk to many of the actual German engineers themselves.
      As much as we enthusiasts want all the tanks to be around for us to enjoy, tanks are a military tool, and tools are there to be used. Tanks are dense concentrations of strategic materials like armor steel. If they are no longer useful as weapons, they are always useful being melted down to make new weapons. Really, we should be grateful that any tanks escape the scrapyard.

    This tank is very bad in wot and since wargaming does not do the bare minimum in balancing all vehicles in the game to be roughly on the same level its even worse. In particular this vehicle has not been buffed even tho all other german tier 10 have been buffed over time its armor is now the worst of all german tier 10 tanks and its cannon was always infuriating taking long to aim just to miss even tho its accuracy is supposedly good.
    Its large damage per shot is only 40 % higher than other tds while its damage per minute is lower than many tanks that arent even tds all in all the tanks only strength is to load gold ammunition (8000 instead of 2000 per shot ) at which point its large penetration of 400 can often compensate for accuracy as a hit at all can be enough to penetrate the enemy unlike the ap ammo where a weakspot hit is neccessary.
    Due to armor buffs to many tanks and new tanks with strong armor that is so strong that not even the strongest gun in the game can pen it the tanks only good thing its penetration becomes weaker and weaker pretty much each patch
    Since the new he changes should pretty much nerf every he ammo in the game but the good he shells the most the tank should get another nerf very soon giving you really no option to load gold except if 300 damage for 21 sec reload sounds useable to you

    In all fictional designs of ww2 and real mbt designs point to the need for a 5000horse power wasp engine or more hp engine and a sensible sized gun either 17 pounder 128 mm or 120 mm pak. Either Allied or Axis vs Soviet Joseph Stalin tanks is a logical development? I think the pershing got the balance correct but the centurion had more growth to the 10.5 cm gun which was also on the sherman m50 so its not impossible for the Allies to of won by simply up gunning their tanks as did the Germans consider emulating with the panther copying m18 tactics with speed and being up gunned to long 75 mm or in panther 2 a 88mm or Speer considering the 10.5 cm suitable for panther 2.
