That song no fear of time has an eerily similar beat to young world by royce 5'9
God bless u
'So be it' is sample from 70s Bollywood movie Don.
Mos def is the most underrated rapper of all time
He's just deeper than they every knew, Mos is just most. One of my favs of all time, to include Talib. Black Star is essential in every true hip hoppers catalogue. You're not just listening to rhyming and word sling. The lyrics are thought provoking gems full of history and life in general. Something a lot of these so called hot artist can't begin to grasp. Love the fact that Black Thought made the album, another fav they slept on
Nah he should just stick to acting
@@ZeroWFPF just say you don’t know hip hop
@@ZeroWFPF u should stick to ur boring existence goofy
Now that you’ve listened to and loved both Black Star albums, ima start lobbying for Black on Both Sides by Mos Def and Things Fall Apart by The Roots.
There’s a 0% chance you won’t love these albums. It’s time you got your hip hop brown belt.
I respect that. I honestly think i've listened to at least some of BOBS but that won't matter because my memory is terrible. And I need to hear TFA. Patreon settings for both i think
@@JonDenton patreon gang 😎 let’s gooooo I can’t wait
@Pason Jayne When has he ever reviewed an album? These are reactions. Notice how he doesn't get into critiques and doesn't give a score at the end?
@Pason Jayne shut up dude
Oh god gatekeeper over here lol. Everyones journey is different. Theres so many classic hip hop albums its hard to get to every one
I jumped out of my chair when I listened to that SO BE IT beat. The main sample is from a 1970s bollywood movie 'Don'. I never thought I'd hear that on a hip hop album. Its my dad's favourite movie.
I was stunned about that as well, so fascinating
Wow, I didn’t know that.
Madlib’s Bollywood knowledge seems to be really impressive, from his Beat Konducta in India project to the samples in his beats for other MC’s (“Do Not Fire!” on Madvillainy, “Education” on Freddie Gibbs’ Bandana).
Album of the year so far for me!
Could be if it at least had a decent mix
@@jacobdussault2803 Its purposely mixed the way it is. Lots of madlibs production is mixed like this.
where do you even listen to this album? Been trying to find it.
@@benji5711 Only on the luminary podcast. It was on RUclips yesterday but obviously RUclips will keep taking it down.
@@jacobdussault2803 it's better than Pusha's album
I remember really falling in love with Kweli in the late 90s and early 2000s. Since then, my fandom for him has really cooled off but this album sounds like it's gonna bring him back in my top 5. I think Mos really brings out the best in him
Nice to see your perspective on this. I'm a huge fan of this album. It will take time to brew. I still find myself re listening and soaking it in. Amazed how they are still elevated as emcees but the mind state and knowledge they are sharing is what I admire most. And madlib orchestrating it just really made a whole new vibe for hip hop. A redundant statement but truthfully as an artist I strive to create atmospheres like this. Masterpiece.
If you haven’t heard it I recommend Reflection Eternal album by Talib and Hi-Tek
A masterpiece
Classic
Top 5 hip hop album
You’re right, as I get older I feel it’s less artist out there I can learn something from. I been silently wanting this album.
Great reaction. Keep rocking with it. I've liked it more with every listen.
I've been waiting for this reaction 👂🏽🤏🏽
Pusha, Kendrick, Black Star, & CyHi all dropping in 2022... Maaaan, this year's fucking nuts!
Heard that they are finally releasing an album, lost my shit when I today realised Madlib is producing it. I am so glad I found this video, I can feel your love of the bars and beats from my phone. Cheers from Sweden #1982gang
Never thought this day would come, I am elated!! It's a beautiful album I look to listen to for years to come
This album was astounding! I’m on my 12th listen and it hasn’t been out a whole week yet. Seems to get better with each listen.
Props for doing this! AOTY so far!
Album of the year for me, absolutely loved it. Talib’s lyrics go so hard. I just wish it was longer.
I don’t think Madlib is the best producer technicality wise, but I think he’s easily one of the best sample flippers. it’s not like he’s got the cleanest mixes or the most bumping drums but goddamn does he know how to chop a sample
Blasphemy
Bro listen to The Unseen and TELL ME that those drums aren't bumpin
@@balmain-i3ehe’s got good groove with his drums but they’re usually subtle in the mix
"Dissecting all the walls of perception I walk through 'em" - Talib 🔥🔥
Jon you have excellent taste
Beautiful fucking album
the editing on this vid is wonderful
the movement on the first bar was crazy
Talib kweli is a legend u should listen to quality
Facts one of my favorite albums 🔥
the album is classic, it takes a dew listens to understand, 1st listen i was like; this isnt enough, but yeah its classic and Yasiin been listening to earl sweatshirt lol Kweli is better than hes ever been, Madlib created a great theme and atmosphere, 4.5/5 only because they didnt put the other "my favorite band" track on the album (tribute)
This is the best I've heard Kweli since his early days
It’s amazing, but no way is it a classic yet. It hasn’t had the time to make enough of an impact to be deemed as a classic. Don’t throw that word around so quickly.
Cant wait to listen to it when its on a real service 🔥🔥🔥
This album is a classic can't wait for the vinyl
This is like the opposite of 'I NEVER LIKED YOU'
I love your review more than a certain someone on RUclips.
Second track's tune sounds familiar 😄
Go and check it out
Search *Don - The theme* and time stamp is 59 sec 🙌🏻 Though , love your reactions Jon ❤️ From India ✨
Talib was crazy on this album. Hasn't lost quality in his pen game at all. Sharp as ever.
Was definitely the mvp on here
Yep, and he finally slowed down his delivery. Age and experience will do that.
4:40 amazing you said that.
So be it 🔥
I dont wanna take away from how dope this album really is. But that No Fear of Time song has a really similar vibe to Young World song by royce 5'9 and vince staples.
fyre
Back like they never left
Long time watcher Love everything you do Jon was just wondering if you’ve done a reaction to Lucky Dayes Album Candy Drip insane vocals and crazy production give it a listen!
Where can I hear it ?
It's not on Spotify and youtube
“The amount of wisdom is giving me a headache” 😭 😝 🤣 😭
Rza style of beat would forever be remembered.
This album is a textbook example of what happens when old professionals start leaning on finesse instead of raw power. No less impressive, but it seems like it involves less effort on the surface because the old professional **is making it look effortless.** This album is an absolute gift.
Can we only listen on Luminaries?? Where is it at??
What platform is the album available on?
It’s called Luminary
Lyrics are crazy
Did madlib use the first beat on another album? I recognise it
I remember one of the beats on here being on a Westside Gunn tape but it wasn’t the intro beat

Where do download this?
I think Nas lit a fire under a lot of people when he dropped at least two classics in a year and a half 30 years after he laced his first beat in hip hop. That is why that man is the goat
Is this entirely produced by Madlib?
Yes
most def was rappin like mf doom, unless it was the beats that were giving me that vibe
Black American here... Your awareness of real hip-hop is uncanny. Play on player
I’m dying to listen to this but I don’t have the money for this (I’m only 16). Could I just pay for one month and then cancel or do you have you to pay for a certain amount of time?
You can pay for 1 month only yeah pretty sure

How did u get this album?
Subscription to Luminary
Mineral mountain??????
agreed much on that take of yasiin losing some of his punch, that's exactly what i thought first time i listened
whaaaat?? I feel like Yasiin still washes him
Talib is the better technician but yasiin is the better poet. Dare I say Big Boi vs. 3 Stacks…
Not even cause big boi is several levels below 3 stacks
@@chrismalinowski654 I don’t know about “several” levels. No love for Sir Lucious LOL I think the analogy still works.

Black star no fear of time review
1. O.G. 5/5 - 🔥opener “top rank, duppy conqueror skank, and the balance don’t break for any large or small bank balances, the parable of the talented”
“The light is not afraid of the dark at all, that part black star”
“Time is relative and the truth is everlasting” many quotables good track to set things off 💯👌🏾
2. So bet it 4/5 - good track but sound a bit low in quality on the mix ad the production sounds off, other the lyrics are one point. “ if I die I come back and perform as a hologram, can’t tell if its a boy or girl get a sonogram, my name flowing up and down the ave like dollar vans, damn”
3. Sweetheart. Sweethard. Sweetodd 4.5/5 - nice soulful track, both emcee’s did their thing lyrics on point, only issue track too short others 🔥💯
4. My favorite band 5/5 - Mos aka Yasiin Bey sol track and he delivers, lyrics on point and live band production 💯 “life is beautiful even when the world is wack, so much beauty we forget to be reminded, that you could be anywhere and find it, try it, promise I’m not lyin, you could find it”
5. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing 4/5
6. Yonders 5/5 - This a banger possible video and single both emcees went in, production on point 💯✊🏾🔥 many quotable bars.
7. Supreme alchemy 5/5 - “a true king is fighting with his soldiers on the frontline when it’s crunch time, head of the marchin orders like I’m Dr lee in drumline, one band one sound when we combine, most rappers a joke, its all just set ups and punchlines” Talib went in on his solo joint 🔥🔥
8. Freequency ft Black Thought 4.5/5 - lyrics on point, Thought killed it, production could’ve been a bit more though, still a fire track
9. No fear of time with Yummy Bingham 5/5 - great closer, production on point the singing on point spoke work at the end 🔥
Overall score 42/45 93.3% 4.6/5 mics
Produced entirely by Madlib, solid comeback effort from Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def and Talib Kweli, production was good, could’ve been a bit more lively on some tracks lyrically they make up for it.
All streaming services please!!
Jon please review Bad Bunny's new album when it comes out tomorrow! 🔥
OMG someone upload this album to Limewire please
Why is mos def so badly mixed
It ain't that serious.
It's like when Kanye West released the album Donda 2 only on the STEM player, which to add, he owned and no one but stans listened to it. No matter the downfall or any negatives of record labels etc (which in this case, I can't find them making it about that) outright just denying putting an album or any musical release on the most popular streaming services (AKA for basically for any public listening), then it comes off as scummy and only for money, as it's not about the music anymore as you've singled nearly everyone out, especially like in this case where I have to start a completely different subscription just for an album and podcast.
Like, imagine someone releasing just on cd or a physical format and no streaming and imagine how far they'd get, it's only because they are household names this is even seen as an option.
How the fuck is this anything like the stem player. This is $5 on an easily accessible app compared to the stem player being $200. You spend a lot more than $5 for a lot less in your daily life. Theyve been screwed by labels their whole careers and this is their most anticipated album of their careers so why should they get financially screwed again. You’d rather the artist lose money for THEIR ART just for a more convenient listening experience. You’re sad
Second
Doesn’t come close to the first one. This album has no energy. A little depressing

way better than that wack ass Kendrick album lmao
Sonically weak, flat, especially compared to the first and too the other projects released this year.
Lyrically sharp! Vocals, Weak! Musical Arrangements, just ok. Need a little more consistent energy from YB.
