I fall on the camp of business that will have a challenging time figuring out how to invest $100k without breaking the bank and making the company function as such. I think the E2 visa laundromat business is fine ( one location 2-3 employees) but then If you are planning for EB5 to get a Green card then you need 10 employees minimum and invest into business $800,000 - million dollars..

Thank you for taking the time to share this information. I notice you used an example of real estate (Single Family Home) as a passive business. I do notice that there are some immigration services that state investing in real estate could qualify for E-2 Visa. Will that be in the case of multi-family?

In the US employees need to have a work permit or green card status to work in the US. Those get rights to work in the US.
Even the employer could get a penalty as well for hiring the wrong status people.

Hi Derek, Yes the funds must be put "at risk" before you apply. If you are purchasing an existing business, one way to protect yourself in the event of visa denial, is to use an escrow account (where the funds are not transferred to the seller if the visa is denied). This must be done properly to comply with the E2 visa requirements. If you are doing a startup, your options would be to liquidate the assets.

You can’t apply for green card or permanent residency for e2 visa. But with the e2 visa your wife and children automatically are included (until your kids are 21 years or age).

How many businesses can i operate in E2 visa?
I went to a new Subway or was it Quiznos? Well doesn't matter. The owner told me he had to visit it other stores as well. Maybe you have to own 5 Subways to make a living. Of course you need very cheap labor. Teens or early 20s still living at home. To work part time for an employee can be expensive due to gas prices. If you hire immigrant labor for half day work it could cost one hour of labor for the employee to come to work and go home, unless the store is in an immigrant community and he can ride a bike or take a bus. If he/she has to commute by car to an outlying suburb in the "richer" area it wouldn't work for him/her. Most foreign owned restaurants seem to only hire or bring with them from overseas their "own" kind. No jobs for locals. I see this ALL the time. ( I eat out a lot). I wonder if the restaurant owner has extra rooms in his house where he can have bunkbeds for his cheap labor. Similar thing is going on in the house rental markets where 4 students sleep in bunkbeds per room for the foreign real estate owner to rent out and make a profit. The fact that there could be a lot of cars parked in the street and the house built for a family is now a boarding house may make the association and neighbors a little peeved doesn't matter as long as someone is making money right?
