Jerry Rafferty & Billy Connelly were a folk duo in Scotland known as the Humble Bums before they went their separate ways.
When Rafferty was dying, Connolly was in Australia; and he turned out to be the very last person to be in communication before Rafferty passed. Jerry's wife explained to Billy that her husband could only text, so they did.
Both guys had stayed good friends down through the years. R.I.P.

Stealer's Wheel was a short-lived British Rock group, that had a modest hit in the US with the song, "Stuck In The Middle With You". It was released by ATCO Records in 1972. I own a copy of the 45-RPM record with this song on it. Lead singer Gerry Rafferty left the group, and embarked on a successful solo career, having a handful of hit songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Gerry Rafferty's biggest hit single (and music video) is for the 1980 song, "Baker Street", which has an incredible guitar solo on it.

I got a story that goes with this song. Sometime ago I was on the interstate traveling somewhere. I noticed this car in the middle lane between two other cars. This car in the middle had two bumper stickers, one on the left and the other on the right. Left bumper sticker read: Joker, and had an arrow pointing to the car on the left of it. The right bumper sticker read: Clowns, and had an arrow pointing to the car on the right. I laughed so hard. I knew the reference to this song was created by someone else who knew this song and decided to have some fun with it using bumper stickers. 😂

Excellent tune! From way back in 1973 the year I was born. This song was featured in Reservoir Dogs Micheal Madsen was dancing to it in the warehouse, lol! Funny looking back but probably pretty disturbing back then, Michael Madsen plays a good psychopath. I was born in 1990, around about the time the movie came out I believe.
EDIT: Tarantino wasn't as famous and people weren’t as accustomed to the goofiness that would follow. So seeing a guy torture a cop before the big stigma with cops, and talking into his severed ear, which was improvised by Madsen by the way, was probably pretty unsettling.

Hell yeah! Classic song! I grew up listening to this and other classic rock on vinyl albums. And nope, I’m not that old, my parents were just mega hippies and I loved it!
It probably feel like a movie intro song because it’s folk rock. Singers & songwriter’s has a genre all on their own almost. They wrote to include the audience. To make you feel like you could sit down on a picnic blanket at the park while they just played music for the love of music... and because they were really really high.

Just saw this one. If I recall correctly, this was a group with two main players, Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan. the song is about a meeting the two had with the music company and lawyers. Thus, "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right"
Gerry Rafferty had a glass eye. He was extremely self conscious about it, (even though he used to play horrid jokes on people (like pretending their umbrella poked his eye out, and pop out the glass eye.)) to the point that he wore sunglasses on stage, so people wouldn't notice it.
Gerry Rafferty went on as a solo act, and did many popular songs as a soloist.
I don't know what happened to Joe Egan.

Funky Song. Gerry Rafferty is the chief talent in Stealer Wheel and Rafferty went on t a distinguished solo career. City to City which included the hit Baker Street was one of the biggest selling Albums of the 70s and I think briefly knocked Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack off the Number 1 Spot . However I hate to bring a cloud over this broadcast but this song was used to harrowing effect in an actual movie . It was the early 90s film Reservoir Dogs and the film was the first in many films that made Quentin Tarantino a Superstar Filmmaker . Yes he wrote and directed Reservoir Dogs !

this song has been a staple on classic rock radio stations since the 1970s, Cheryl Crow did a song that sounds like Stuck in the Middle back in the 90s called All I wanna do is have some fun. Obviously you can tell that music vidoes or "promotional films" were not as important as the music back then, I've heard the song a million times but this is the first time I've seen this film. As for the film I haven't missed much. I should emphasize that it seems the video is just as important if not more so than the song today. back then nobody cared about any promotional video. It has become a more visual and less audio world.

Gerry Rafferty was a co-writer with Joe Egan who is in this video miming the vocals that were actually sung by Rafferty who had left the band at this point. Towards the end of the 70s, Gerry put out some great hits of his own - 'Baker Street' and 'Right Down The Line'. Then, being uncomfortable with fame, apparently, he refused to tour in support of subsequent albums and kind of disappeared. He did put out good material whenever he felt like it over the years but refused to work on anyone's terms but his own. Basically, he could have been a major star but simply didn't want that. He died in 2011.

The band was lead by two singers Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan. This song is sung by Rafferty but he quit the band before they made the video. So that's the other singer Joe Egan pretending like he's singing. That's why he's acting so silly because it's not his voice. So the lead singer of this song is not in this video. Rafferty did return to the band but they broke up a couple of years later and Rafferty then had his solo hits like "Baker Street."

That song was always played at parties at the park .swimming pools .skating ring .popular in the 70 and everybody had it and it went well with what we had going on. I understand the party. but I really didn't understand why they put close up on people pigging out cuz we never ate that way..we was stuck in the middle between friends.and relatives . drunks and Stoney's. it was all in good fun. nobody got hurt and everybody made it home alive. And we all was acting like clowns and Jokers and everything in between.

Classic song but I had never seen this video before. It's one all time classic song and probably has been on the radio, tv and everywhere and anywhere a million time since the early 70s

Hey man, the bottle thing. Its called slide guitar. You use a bottle or tube to make that distinct country guitar sound.

Holy Smokes this is an oldie but goodie! The fact that they made a video of this in 1973 is actually shocking, way ahead of the trend on that. The video is weird, better to just listen :-). I love the slide guitar in this song, seems like only country uses a slide guitar nowadays. There was a smattering of music videos in the 70's but it didn't really take off until 1980 with the launch of MTV. Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles was an eerily accurate prediction, the perfect launch song for MTV.

Stealers Wheel not Steelers Wheel. Anyway Stealers Wheel were formed in Paisley, Scotland in 1972 and were a folk/rock band. In this particular promo video Stealers Wheel vocalist/lyricist and main man Gerry Rafferty is not present. His vocals are here mimed by band member Joe Egan. Rafferty had temporarily left the band prior to the filming of this video but returned in due course. If you want to see the band complete with Rafferty in the band and performing this song there is a version here on RUclips with the band performing on the TV show Top of the Pops. Gerry Rafferty enjoyed huge solo success in the late 70's after the band split up in 1975. May I suggest Gerry Rafferty - 'Baker Street' or 'Night Owl'.

I love what you're doing, and I hope you keep up the good work! Can I make a suggestion? Take a few seconds before you upload and double check the band/song name. This is the second time in 2 days I've noticed an error in the title. This should be 'Stealers Wheel'. The one from yesterday should have been 'The Band Perry". Thank you!
