Very true m'man. Plus I really don't get the AAL comparisons. For a start the guy is about 50x quicker than me! If I'm like AAL because I'm instrumental, then so are a lot of bands. But hand on heart, I heard Tosin properly for the first time at Meshuggah in London the other week. I'm notoriously bad at listening to music, emerging from my bubble once every few years to sample a new Meshuggah album. Quite blinkered really haha.
It's this combination of jazz, prog, and metal that is just blowing my mind right now. Even though this song isn't the current buzz right now, I am still seriously considering covering this on my channel. Just, WOW.
all I know is that I really like this song when I'm blazin lol I enjoy it, no matter what my mental state is, but I especially appreciate it when I'm just zoned out and baked.
Chimp Spanner can really tell a story with music, fucking brilliant stuff. Ultimately some of the best instrumental metal around. Close your eyes and let the music take you far away.
The sound of soul soaring over stone and sea. Defying the mold of human flesh, Smashing the wall of beliefs, Sight to bring insanity, To all dimensional reality.
How to travel in space ... a point to enter through a wormhole. Contrast of power and serenity in those riffs and instrumentalization, what else can be said Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷🤘
Man, you put so much god-damned FEEL into your music. You let it breathe, like a new pair of sneakers. Sure, it's good to keep em' tight, but you gotta let em air out or they get old fast. Your music is exactly that. It's dense and challenging, then slow and chilled out, letting those notes ring out and carry those sweet melodies, and nothing seems to ever get old. Thanks, you helped me enjoy good music once again.
nothing wrong with being influenced. its influence that creates the evolutionary chain of music and ultimately creates things like this awesome song =)
Chimp Spanner was around since '04. AAL's been around since '07. This album came out in '12, so you could be right, but I'd like to think it's the other way around seeing as Paul Ortiz was doing this first.
i wonder if he called this song "cloud" city because it's length is 4:20. Don't know if 4:20 is big in the UK though, or if he actually smokes the ganj.
Chimp spanner is awesome first I didn't like him so much but something changed. I don't know why xD probably because of the terminus trilogy. Now I see him as the frank gambale/other awesome fusion players of metal ^^ same with Tosin who rocks!
lol id say you two have pretty different styles. just because you use a similar noise (djent djent djent =P) doesnt mean that the actual music isnt different. and i actually like how your not just throwing notes in there, but you make each note count and add to the musicality of the song, so maybe 50x quicker isnt always the better, and thats precisely why i enjoyed weightless better than their self titled. nevertheless id say you got your own sound and im diggin it =)
ease up on Petrucci man. The guy is technically flawless, which makes him seem soulless in his shredding. But, check him out in Liquid Tension Experiment. The solo like 3 minutes into 'when the water breaks' is a nipple twister

I love what the bass does at 0:59..you just gotta walk it out sometimes…then the funk slap stuff. What.
12 years later and I still listen to this masterpiece
Those thumbs down... So unnecessary. I mean, seriously? This is ecstasy. Some of the most majestic, powerful shit I've ever listened to.
Some people love to hate. Wasn't me, I freakin' love this!
This is pure brilliance. Wicked song & EP.
Can’t believe I’m saying this publicly but when I get drunk I listen to this and cry ALMOST every time. Good shit man. Just good.

its so intense yet so chill at the same time, my brain hurts
Does anyone know where Chimp Spanner is today? I would really like another album
Paul Ortiz (who IS Chimp Spanner) has a synthwave project going on called ZETA.
hes posted some new stuff recently
Oh my guitar gods. I usually am on constant lookout for bands like this, and I usually never find what I'm looking for. Now I have. Yay!
LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*daniel tosh voice* FIRST!. On a serious note this is amazing, Paul
The length of this song said on the playlist that it was 4:20
4:01 Loving the polyrhythms on the drums here.. What? He plays those too?
*Not Worthy*
AAL formed in 07 whereas CS's first album hit in 04, so possibly the other way around mate, but nothin wrong with that
Soo good :)
Nah that bass is insane
I imagine Mojo Jojo listening to this
Professor Utonium added this to his playlist
so epic^
OH MY GOD
I swear by god, this bass let my balls vibrate.
Pls dont stop!
Thats what I'm talkin about. 0 dislikes
Yup... Sounds like a day in the life of Lando Calrissian. :)
i wonder if he called this song "cloud" city because it's length is 4:20. Don't know if 4:20 is big in the UK though, or if he actually smokes the ganj.
Very goo d to be internalized to such an indescribable height
Peace in chaos and anger.
Jesus fucking Christ that ending!

+PairInstabilityType its 4/4
+PairInstabilityType its 4/4
+PairInstabilityType +tMAtS actually it's 12/8, but the hi hat is accenting every 4 notes instead of 3
wow
@artcellrox Yeah, that came to mind later on, probably best he sticks with his solo career lol
Looking at images of the actual Cloud City while listening to this is epic as fuck.
Chimp spanner is awesome first I didn't like him so much but something changed. I don't know why xD probably because of the terminus trilogy. Now I see him as the frank gambale/other awesome fusion players of metal ^^ same with Tosin who rocks!
I've actually heard Chimp Spanner was doing this before AAL started.
If you love Megaman music you will love this band as well
1:54
@NocturnalTerror As awesome as that would be, you'd have to kiss the "free" nature of his songs goodbye.
And all that Djazz.
Song length is 420 and i'm flying through cloud city.
Wen 1:53 hit ,literally made the oooooooooo I like this face
Orlando Rogel
It just became musically nutritious--it's 'Tasty!'
i quite like it...like a prog-rock version of the yellowjackets or fourplay...(totally mean that in a good way:)
Go check out his earlier music before AAL was established.
deus ex, blade runner, mass effect, 2001 space odyssey, tron, ghost in the shell comes to mind everytime i listen to 1:55
holy fuck i love dis.
Holy shit why haven't I heard this before? I was sort of shaky because it was instrumental, it's not really my thing, but damn this is pretty mad.
3:47 til the end is fucking sick outtro!
Lando Calriffion lives!
Totally thinking of Bioshock Infinite when I look at the song title!
only 137 views? wow
Is it just me who finds it funny there's no release date for mexico?

I wish Cloudkicker would join Basick
