Smart Guy Jokes that would not air on Disney Channel Today

- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- Smart Guy was a Sitcom that aired on The WB from 1997 to 1999. Once it finished it's first run, it went into syndication on Disney Channel from 1999 to 2003.
Since Smart Guy was made for Primetime Network Television, it dealt with more adult storylines and jokes for a older audience. When it starting airing on Disney channel, the episodes were not edited or changed besides removing some minor curse words.
This was back when Disney Channel didn't have a wide selection of their own programming yet and their guidelines for what could be said and shown wasn't so restricted. This is just to show how much Disney Channel has changed in almost 20 years since Smart Guy was last shown.
Fast Froward to today and I believe Disney Channel would not air Smart Guy in its entire form due to its jokes not suitable for their 2-11 demographic and because it has produced a lot more sitcoms more suitable for its audience.
If you were to watch any Disney Channel show produced after Smart Guy left the channel, you wouldn't see any storylines or jokes like this but remember this a Disney produced show made for The WB, but aired on Disney Channel in its entirely after its WB run.
Smart Guy is now available on Disney+ but only through an adult profile. It is not available on the kids profile along with other former Disney Channel programming Boy Meets World.
Thank you all for watching and hope you enjoy all these clips from Smart Guy.
This show was super black, but not at all ghetto. So authentic.
Yes I don't think it ever got ghetto maybe the character Brandi played by kyla Pratt but that's pushing it
@@Afterburst There was that one episode where they made the Hood Safari joke.

@@thefanwithoutaface8105 lol 😂 classic "white people would swim with sharks etc." but won't go to the hood for a good barbeque."
Was a great show
The funny thing was that all of the main kids were really smart in their own way. TJ was book smart, Marcus was business smart, Evette was emotionally smart, and Mo was street smart.
And you’re smart.

Theses jokes are literally what made Disney Channel so ICONIC back in the day.. parents could actually enjoy it too

Facts and nickelodeon
Facts!!
Disney didn’t produce this show. It was originally on WB and disney syndicated it.
It's edgy sitcom
Omar Goodings comedic talent was so underrated
Liked him on hanging with Mr Cooper also
He deserved a better career. You don't understand how iconic the moment he uttered the term "Unstable creatures" (Probably written by John Singleton, but his delivery made it as big as it was. That shit is "STILL" relatable. I'm tryin' to live like his character in that movie. My best friend momma bad af and my best friend a fine young lady herself. Hehehe.).
Fact Statement!!! Dude was a phenomenally underrated talent that should of gotten not exposure than he did.
Gooding brothers very talented at acting..Both Cuba and Omar.
I remember him from wild and crazy kids
I like how the dad on this show is written like a human being. So many TV dads are either Father Knows Best or Homer Simpson, but they got it right on this show.
I was so young when it was on that I never really realized that. Outside of the genius part.. These were pretty normal people. Sitcoms had a habit of overdoing things but this was pretty relatable.
Faxx that’s why I like My Wife And Kids
*crawdkenny* That's because he's black and there's a racist, double-standard against white males males in the media. They always make the white dads idiots and their wives know-it-all's, and then they portray black and Mexican men as the perfect dad and husband. It's all propaganda of one type or another on tv in movies, or the "news". Social-engineering. Programming. Programming minds. All you would have to do is count; out of how many shows about black families, have the dad act like a jackass constantly, and out of how many show about white families is the dad an idiot.
@@ToyotaGuy1971 please log out and never log back in. This was in 1997 and before, there was no BLM, no MAGA. This was just a family show with black people when most shows were family shows with white people and one token black character. No propaganda you magaidiot
I have met JMJ before and he said he would not accept the role unless the father was made into a positive, respectable role.
If this is considered dangerous for Disney... they might as well ban the Proud Family 😂
Haha that explains why Disney Channel never airs it since it ended its run back then. I mean im just basing this on Disney channel shows made after arounf 2014 where you dont hear any of these kind of jokes anymore
Trudyyyyyyy!!!!!
@Nice One yes once smart guy finished on wb, it went into syndication on Disney channel. That's where I started watching it
Tbhh Disney sucks already.. go to nick.. oh wait..nvm.
Well it’s on Disney+, so there must not be that much of an objection
Marcus and Mo should have had their own show
That would of been awesome! Those 2 definetly had a lot of the funniest moments
It would be a great idea but this show had a kid audience teenager audience they were in there 20s on this show
@@deandreray3500 it would've been hilarious if they did a spin-off with Marcus and Mo going to an hbcu
Technically as they were nearly every episode. They did.😆
Just watched this on Disney + yesterday and my boi they did on Upn for 3 months 2001
The REASON you won't see jokes like this on Disney today is that no one writes this well for television anymore.
Oh that's a good one thank you. Thats definitely part of it as well
Oh that hits
Its because good writers want decent pay
But this was a network show when it was airing.
Yeah the writing is Top Notch 🔥💯
The acting on this show is under appreciated. 💪🏽

I always say this
This stuck with me for decades lool
Never take this down. This is a special time in history. 90s 2000s era before social media and censorship took over. We will never see it again in present day. This show felt like genuine people talking how people actually talk. Same way with that's so Raven though it was a bit over the top at times for comedic effect. But never so much that it was unbearable. Now look at our favorite networks shows after 2006.I can't even recognize them (I stopped watching tv around 2010 so I can only imagine how far gone it is a decade later.)
Thank you so much for this comment. This was my motivation to make this video. After seeing how Disney channel shows are today then re watching Smart Guy, I thought I don't think some these funny parts will be allowed on the channel like back then 20 years ago. Some of these could be shown just gotta edit a word but others are just a no. We live in such a different era of tv.
@Jthe Lightseeker Nobody who knows Black History in America would think censorship wasn’t always an issue.
I'm only speaking about the last 20 years of media I'm well aware of censorship before that but I wasn't alive to live through it.
Agreed
I’d say it’s really only STARTED to go downhill in 2017 but hasn’t gone bad until the virus took over, there are plenty of kids shows within the last decade that truly encapsulated what “All-Ages” truly meant and had jokes that appealed to everyone but could be viewed by anyone.
Marcus and Mo Literally carried the show
That is very true. It was proven in the one episode that didnt have TJ, where Marcus and Mo get jobs at a radio station and Yvette and Nina get jobs at the mall in that store with the racist boss lady.
Yvette was amazing though
@@VideoGuy232 she definetly had a lot of funny moments as well like when she was dreaming about marrying mo haha
Very true! When I was a kid, I mostly watched it for TJ, but as I got older and rewatched some of the episodes on some channel, I realized how extremely funny Marcus and Mo were. They should've had their own spin-off.
We not gon mention the rhyme
Jason Weaver and Omar Gooding were a legendary duo
I legit wish they’d done a spinoff of the two of them

How was there more black television in the 80s and 90s then there is now?
Yea there is barely anymore. Theres Black ish but thats not like a sitcom with a laugh track. And maybe Ravens home but thats not even close to as funny as thats so raven
It was truly the success of The Cosby Show - every other television network followed the leader and wanted to duplicate the formula of a Black family sitcom, so there was an explosion of content to ride that wave.

Truly sad this show was cancelled too early. Absolutely incredible show, funny as hell.
I've noticed that alot of the shows that have been airing on Disney channel within the last decade have lost touch with reality. For example, they don't discuss alot of important issues like they did back in the day like race, sex, religion and more. They removed parents out of the household and if they are there, they aren't there mentally. They make parents out to be airheads and clueless of what their children are doing. Shows for example: Dog with a blog, Jessie, ANT FARM and others. Shows now are unrealistic and hard to relate to.
they made it that way purposely. its all about bein goofy now. no messages. social media made everyone afraid to be honest anymore.
I totally agree with you! Its my main reason for doing this video. Watching Disney Channel today then re watching smart Guy, I was like hey I don't think this would be allowed today, even though Smart Guy aired for 4 years on Disney channel.
