Detroit are better trading out of the 6 spot if Byram isn't there for them. It is a deep year, get more rolls of the dice if you can't get the top end talent that you need.
Kaapo is the better all round player and he's already NHL ready with good size and strength... Hughes is more electrifying and has been hyped up for a few years - plus those electrifying guys sell more seats and are tougher to come by (not to mention centers typically hold more value than wingers do) - they are very different players and it's a lot closer than many seem to think - Kaapo clearly had the better season yet Hughes has remained number 1 the entire time... It's very much like the year MacKinnon went 1 with Barkov going 2... MacKinnon is more exciting and Barkov is more complete... many still assume MacKinnon is better since he's funner to watch, but Barkov is a much more reliable and all round player than MacKinnon is... I see the Hughes vs Kaapo debate the same way ;) Hughes will go 1st, but I actually like Kaapo a hair more :D
@@johnspearing147 Did Kakko have the better season this year? He was below a point a game Hughes was over a point a game. Sure different leagues, but way more top prospects are gonna come out of the teams Hughes was playing at the time then the players Kakko was playing in his mens league or whatever, guys that likely will never see NHL ice time. And most scouts say Hughes has a higher ceiling then Kakko expecting after 2-3 years he'll be way better. Kakko is a scorer, Hughes is a play maker which sets them pretty far apart, but if Hughes keeps training with Hall in NJ he'll become a great shooter as well. Kakko I don't see improving enough to stay better then Hughes. Kakko WILL be better for 2 or 3 years. There is practically no arguing that. Unless Hughes is put with Hall in which case his play will no doubt sky rocket
@@brendanjames7551 Kakko clearly had the much better season... he beat Barkov's record in a men's league, he played on the men's teams at the worlds, he wasn't playing with boys like Hughes was.... Obviously more prospects come from junior development teams than from Men's leagues, not many prospects have a significant role in men's leagues like Kaapo had... that certainly doesn't mean Hughes played in a tougher league or a better league - cause he was in a much weaker league with a heavily stacked team! Hughes will always be more exciting and more electrifying, but I doubt he'll ever be as well rounded as Kakko... Again, I see this as pretty much identical to the MacKinnon and Barkov 1-2 year... many have always seen MacKinnon as the better player, he's funner to watch, his team just went to the playoffs, etc... but Barkov is clearly the better all round player....
I hope Oil gets Cozens/Boldy instead of Broberg, but if Broberg is certainly the BPA and the gap is noticeable I'd be fine with a reach for Broberg. He reminds me of Darnell Nurse. Both are great skaters with size, however can't exit the d zone and enter the o zone. Nurse relies heavily on passing through the boards, which usually results in icing. Not a fan of how EDM doesn't have any capable defence man of breaking out (Bouchard is likely in the AHL next year) Jones bring optimism. Point is: not sure if we need another Nurse type player when we have Klefbom/Sekera and Jones on the left.
Fevzi Kamalov agreed, I’m hoping we can draft Cozens, we can really use a tall winger with a great shot, but then again we need all the help we can get to make playoffs lol
Kakko: U18 gold, U20 gold and IIHF Worlds gold in 13 months. Skipped NHL Combine because was in IIHF Worlds finals. Hughes: Nothing, nothing and nothing. Skipped NHL Combine because was scared of results.
it would just be a huge troll because all the new york media just assumes kakko is in the bag, but nothing is guarenteed come draft day. i'd get a good laugh out of it if the devils took him and left hughes for the nyr
J Litzenberger If they don’t think Jack Hughes has the potential to take over the first line center role from Hischier the devils should definitely reconsider who they are taking first overall
I could absolutely see Nico holding down the 1C spot over Hughes. Hischier looks like a perennial Selke winner in the making. You, at the very least, put Hughes at 2 or 3C for the first couple years. After that, really doesn't matter, play both guys on their only line for 20 minutes a night.
The difference has to be quite huge for a European player to be the first pick. It's just the way it works. I hope people overlook Kakko enough for him to end up on the right team, but I'm not holding my breath...
The Hawks are in a position where they should be taking THE BEST AVAILABLE at #3, which Turcotte is not. I don't care "they have other D men they drafted last year", and neither should they because neither of them are Bowen Byram. If they all pan out and they don't end up with room for all of them, they can always trade one of them later for a forward. Defense is a premium right now, you'll get far more value back in a trade dealing a quality defense-man. Hawks have not had the best of luck with local products that have been fans of the team either of late. See (Hartman, Hinostroza, Schmaltz) There's too much added pressure to replicate the last decade of success they all saw growing up as kids. Smart pick is Byram.
Devil's can trade for Puljujarvi and maybe sign Anders Lee and boom have two 6"4 wingers on his left and right. Btw that just an example of a FA signing and trade that both could easily happen this season. Just to show how likely and easy it will be for NJ to get big goal scoring wings for Hughes.
He's the best prospect, better potential. Colorado is already expected to trade Barrie. Have Byram be the long term replacement, and move Barrie for a 2C and picks that can contribute immediately, draft and develop a forward at 16 for the future.
Corey Powers idk if they get a chance, if anything a trade up to 4 but it would cost alot! A trade back scenario could be in play too. securing more picks or a possible first rounder next year wouldn't be a bad idea
Should they not take the better player? Everyone is on the same page that Kakko is the better player and more NHL ready right now so why even debating who is number 1? Because maaaaaybe Hughes Will be better in 5 years? Is that their excuse to pick him? That is so damn crazy and very stupid, a pure guessing game. This is simple, Kakko is the better player, more NHL ready and therefore he should be number 1 and he also will only get better with time. Just imagine if Kakko was American with a U18 gold, U20 gold and a world Championship gold and totally outplayed many of the best players in the god damn world at the Worlds, just imagine if he was American and if that was the case we would not even talk about Hughes right now.
And after three years we realize that Dach was the best all the time :D Edit: But seriously. Sports is about making money (unfortunately) Teams need icons and players that sell with their face, not necessarily their stick. Team needs Crosby's, Ovechkin's and such that are more of a phenonenom. Championships bring only short term finacial advance, icons bring long term financial advances. That's most likely the Devil's excuse
saine414 everyone? Don’t categorize me in that assumption! I’ll take Hughes over Kakko any day of the week, you Finns are just so brainwashed by your egotistical hockey perspectives
Why wouldn't the Devils go for who will likely be the better player down the road? This "everyone" you speak of thought Nolan Patrick was way better then Hischier because he was "more NHL ready and bigger" and Nolan can hardly maintain 3rd line center in Philly let alone maintain a position that isn't the IR. The Devils aren't making it anywhere with either of them in the next two or three years so why go for the guy who's better now and has basically already hit his ceiling when every scout is saying they'll get passed up by the other guy? Hughes has more potential and in New Jersey he'd get to continue his training with Hall, who, being an elite scorer will in time help improve his shooting a ton and make him way more dangerous then just a play maker. All Kakko really has going for him over Hughes right now is his shooting ability.
Hughes, Kakko, and Byram are the three I can think of right now who are definitely going to the NHL this year. I’m less confident on Kakko than the other two, however. Turcotte has a good shot at going in but no guarantees in my eyes. Caulfield is a bit of a stretch but there’s a chance for him, too.
GoLeafsGo 1994 hawks would have a good d core in a few years. Boqvist Byram. Matta Jokiharju. Keith Gustafson. Obviously Keith isn’t very good anymore but I think he can still be good playing top 6 minutes
This years draft is both interesting and frustrating. I’m an Oilers fan, and in their pick range there’s no one player I’m really gung ho about. I don’t have a preference for any players. It’s so wide open. I’ve heard people say the Oilers might pick Korea’s, Zegras, Cozens, Broberg, York, cofield. I dunno who I’d like.
Iraq Lobsta!! 45 I doubt he goes for a goalie. The Oilers have strength at that position. 8th overall is too early considering the boom or bust mentality on goalies. My guess is a forward, of whichi dunno who I personally prefer in the range, or he takes Broberg as Button suggests. That way they can trade a guy like aethan Bear for a decent winger. We wait.
Bouhou. The Oilers have had so many 1st overall picks and top 5 picks in the last 10 years including McDavid. You guys should have had it figured out by now...

@@joseppi44plays13 I'm not sure where your getting that from. If that was true they'd have already said. Yeah we're taking Kakko. Shero is likely gunning for Hughes because basically every single scout is saying he has the higher ceiling and the Devils even with either of them still aren't in a position to win the cup so having Hughes for 2-3 years not only lets the Devils become a team with a chance, it lets Hughes develop and reach that ceiling that all the scouts are seeing

they arent the same thats like saying look at gretzky then look at tavares they are the same since they r canadian
Where can i watch it, Bec im from Europe.
Detroit are better trading out of the 6 spot if Byram isn't there for them. It is a deep year, get more rolls of the dice if you can't get the top end talent that you need.
We did that in 2013 and ended up selecting Mantha and Bertuzzi with the two picks we got. Worked out really well in the past 😎
How does a defenseman remind you of Mikko Rantanen?
@Hazy Jay I was referring to 7:14 but now that I relistened to it, he was definitely talking about Boldy. My mistake
Kaapo might win the Calder but jack might get the more points in he’s career
Did I said that?
I see the Hughes vs Kaapo debate the same way ;)
Hughes will go 1st, but I actually like Kaapo a hair more :D
Sub to Pewdiepie that makes no sense
I really hope there is a scenario, where the Red Wings can select Bowen Byram. I highly doubt it though.
Maybe I see Stevie Y. Having interest in him.
Been Stevie Y. Since bwas player
Oilers have a ton of good young Dmen in the stables. They need depth on forward not defence.
Fevzi Kamalov agreed, I’m hoping we can draft Cozens, we can really use a tall winger with a great shot, but then again we need all the help we can get to make playoffs lol
Seider with the 11th pick. Kid climbed the charts recently. You also pronounce the name Zider. Like Sider with a Z at the beginning^^
With the way Shero has been talking lately I think they're going with Kakko
Kakko: U18 gold, U20 gold and IIHF Worlds gold in 13 months. Skipped NHL Combine because was in IIHF Worlds finals.
Hughes: Nothing, nothing and nothing. Skipped NHL Combine because was scared of results.
kakko skipped due to iihf world championship party but i agree
I’d be so down to get Cozens
Yeah!
Hell go top 6
This looks like a great draft. Hopefully they turn out
Finland represent!
I really don't see the Penguins picking a forward in this draft, they need D in the pipeline.
Can you imagine if they devils took kakko? that'd be such a troll lolol
And pass up the best player in the draft?
@@mauditebalvenie It doesn't matter which one is better right now. What matters is how they are playing 5-15 years from now.
Hughes is by far the best player due to his elite skating already.
Kakko may be NHL ready but Hughes has a higher ceiling.
it would just be a huge troll because all the new york media just assumes kakko is in the bag, but nothing is guarenteed come draft day. i'd get a good laugh out of it if the devils took him and left hughes for the nyr
@@VolcanicProtectorMan Hughes didn't look better than Kakko in the world championships, I don't see any evidence he is a better player right now.
Glenn Schiiler, the host, looks like Johnny Knoxville's baby brother :)
“You put him [Hughes] behind Nico Hischier...”
Do you really think Nico’s gonna be the first line center over Hughes in a couple years?
J Litzenberger
If they don’t think Jack Hughes has the potential to take over the first line center role from Hischier the devils should definitely reconsider who they are taking first overall
I could absolutely see Nico holding down the 1C spot over Hughes. Hischier looks like a perennial Selke winner in the making. You, at the very least, put Hughes at 2 or 3C for the first couple years. After that, really doesn't matter, play both guys on their only line for 20 minutes a night.
where is the holland interview?
Must have cut it out for RUclips.
7:29 damn that’s a nice snipe by my bro Broberg
That was sick bro
Develop Dach right and he'll be a franchise player for years
The difference has to be quite huge for a European player to be the first pick. It's just the way it works. I hope people overlook Kakko enough for him to end up on the right team, but I'm not holding my breath...
Ken Holland didn't select Nicklas Lidstrom, Jimmy Devallano did. Holland had nothing to do with building that Red Wings team from the 90s....
0:57-1:10 what is the name of that theme intro?
Can someon explain to me why Cam York is took twice in this mock draft???
Turcotte will be a great player for the Balckhawks!
Jack Hughes is another small center like Nico, Devils needs a powerforward like Kaapo. Way better pick for Devils
Kaka cucko will fizzle out just like Laine did.
@@undth4083 no
Devil's can trade for Puljujarvi and maybe sign Anders Lee and boom have two 6"4 wingers on his left and right. Btw that just an example of a FA signing and trade that both could easily happen this season. Just to show how likely and easy it will be for NJ to get big goal scoring wings for Hughes.
Still a gamble taking the more NHL ready over higher ceiling Hughes.
Hughes is also already an elite skater and broke ovi's record.
Byram is going 4th or 3rd. No way he falls down any lower. You draft the best player available.
He's the best prospect, better potential. Colorado is already expected to trade Barrie. Have Byram be the long term replacement, and move Barrie for a 2C and picks that can contribute immediately, draft and develop a forward at 16 for the future.
Tsarmanderi Why the Hawks should take him.
If Byram falls to 5... Detroit will trade up 1 spot to grab him.
Corey Powers idk if they get a chance, if anything a trade up to 4 but it would cost alot! A trade back scenario could be in play too. securing more picks or a possible first rounder next year wouldn't be a bad idea
I doubt anyone could have predicted both Hughes and Kakko struggling in their rookie year.
2 years later: Kakko still struggling, Hughes is an All Star
Don’t think Vancouvers complaining about peterson lol
so excited as a sabres fan
I don't see the Flyers drafting a D-man. Then again, they did just give Hayes a $7M AAV contract so what do I know haha?
And after three years we realize that Dach was the best all the time :D
Edit: But seriously.
Looks like heroin to me
saine414 Hughes has a higher ceiling and is a franchise center that the Devils desperately need
saine414 everyone?
All Kakko really has going for him over Hughes right now is his shooting ability.
where is ville heinola
3rd round
How many nhl ready prospects this year?
Hughes, Kakko, and Byram are the three I can think of right now who are definitely going to the NHL this year. I’m less confident on Kakko than the other two, however. Turcotte has a good shot at going in but no guarantees in my eyes. Caulfield is a bit of a stretch but there’s a chance for him, too.
Iraq Lobsta!! 45 calm down, what are you.. 12?
@@Sindowne i just lost too many brain cells
Man it’s hard for the Hawks to pass on Byram. But Turcotte could do it. Still think it’s one or the other at three.
I see Chicago taking Byram so they will have an insane top pair in a few years with Him and Boqvist
GoLeafsGo 1994 hawks would have a good d core in a few years. Boqvist Byram. Matta Jokiharju. Keith Gustafson. Obviously Keith isn’t very good anymore but I think he can still be good playing top 6 minutes
GoLeafsGo 1994 oh and btw I’ve been hoping that the hawks take turcotte but now I’m starting to second guess myself
GoLeafsGo 1994 I am hoping they take him.

Knight will go before 16
How many of these kids are NHL ready?
Yehuda Hamer Every year it’s like 5 or 6 it seems like. The top 3 and then 3 or 4 first rounders.

Where is Heinola?
We wait.
Iraq Lobsta!! 45 maybe. They might also pay for one of Edmonton’s further along goalie prospects though. Their net issue is very immediate.
Bouhou. The Oilers have had so many 1st overall picks and top 5 picks in the last 10 years including McDavid. You guys should have had it figured out by now...
@@ferdinandlemaire4256 Except they haven't... And that's not really relevant to my comment, so ok...
I should also point out if it's not already obvious, I don't work for the Edmonton Oilers hockey club. So I'm not part of "you guys". I had nothing to do with it.
I think Kakko should go first
Parker Macdonald I agree I remember in the draft lottery New Jersey’s gm didn’t really think Hughes was good at all
@@joseppi44plays13 I'm not sure where your getting that from.
Kaka cucko will fizzle out just like Laine did.
