    Really hope Detroit takes Hughes. He may be more risky compared to the other d man at 6 overall (Bouchard and Dobson), but he seems to have elite skating and offensive talent. He will need to develop his overall game as well as hit some weights, but he has huge huge potential imo. The only reason he isn't higher is because of his size but every year it seems size is becoming less of a factor and favors speed more.

      Jack Finn i hope he goes to my NY Rangers, chicago doesn't need any more offensive fire power, their defense was quite brutal last year! So was the rangers, but that was expected when you buy out 1 guy and trade another, both with over 1500 games combined played, and replace them with rookies and depth players, that will be the result you would get. Smh lol

  • @SFascetta777
    @SFascetta777 6 лет назад

    What really stands out to me is how much scouts still seems to favor size over skill on the back end - Dobson is the biggest of the D that should be in the top half of the 1st Round, Bouchard is the next biggest, then all of the others (Smith, Hughes, Boqvist) are sub-6 feet. However, it is widely accepted that Boqvist and Hughes especially are better players overall, and have much more of a chance to make a significant impact. Scouts seem to prefer safe picks over high upside picks still.

    • @WhatsTheMaata
      @WhatsTheMaata 6 лет назад

      PuckNerd most of the NHL's top defence men are above 6 feet. Hedman, doughty, subban, burns, josi, karlsson.... so I agree with the smaller defenders being overlooked but I disagree with smaller defenders in this draft having higher ceilings. All the top defenders I listed above are good sized and have tons of skill. That's what makes a number one defencemen. So Dobson and Bouchard have higher ceilings because they could develop into a number one down the road but the smaller guys like boqvist and Hughes are safer bets to be regular NHLers.

    • @SFascetta777
      @SFascetta777 6 лет назад

      I disagree. I pose the question, are the players you listed considered elite defensemen because they are above 6 feet, or do they just happen to be so? My point was simply that Hughes and Boqvist are significantly better prospects than Dobson or Bouchard, and there is plenty of analysis that points to that. I encourage you to go read Scott Wheeler or Corey Pronman over at the Athletic, or Steve Kournianos at The Draft Analyst, and their evaluations. Could Dobson or Bouchard eventually become a number one? Well, sure. Every team has a number 1 defenseman by default. That's how numbers work. They also have a number 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 defenseman. But will they ever be game-breaking talents? They don't have the explosive, dynamic element in their game that indicates that they will, whereas Hughes and Boqvist have proven track records when it comes to making a positive impact in both ends of the ice. Hughes is one of the best skaters I've seen in a draft class regardless of position. I have some questions on Dobson's Hockey IQ and processing speed, and while he and Bouchard are both nice skaters, neither one has shown the skating ability to make an offensive impact consistently at the next level. So, while all of the defensemen mentioned could, and likely will be number 1 defensemen, Hughes and Boqvist both have the potential to become true gamebreakers and elite superstars in this league. Dobson and Bouchard will likely top out as really, really good defensemen. Nothing wrong with that, but taking either one over Hughes or Boqvist is not going to work out well in the long term.

    • @romanstar7550
      @romanstar7550 6 лет назад

      the reason for this is because dmen have very important work to do in their own end that is greatly enhanced by weight and reach . and this type own end work doesnt show up in the scoring stats where hughes and boqvist show up but its just as important and obviously the scouts realize that as theyre pro's conversing with everybody from ex nhlers to nhl coaches

  • @stevielikesdick

    Lol why do people always compare others to their same nationality? McKenzie compared Dahlin to Hedman, Karlsson and Lidstrom. Why, because they’re Swedish? I want to know who he’s actually compared to talent wise. Not nationality wise, thank you.

    Dahlin will be a bust, book it! His true colors came out when he attempted to injure knee on knee in the biggest gold medal world junior game with 2 mins left and his team down by just 1 goal, gave team Canada PP and easy win for gold. I was 10 rows up, seen it live. The fucking kid is a menace, no mature NHLer will embrace him or that kind of mentality going forward. Book it, its only down hill from here. So many narrow minded analyst forget that shit.

      Zadina know how to protect the puck (its rare for a rookie) and he's a clutch player... Zadina by a mile. He's more close than Svenchnikov than tkachuk is close than Zadina.
