- Join Trinny Woodall and Lucy from the Trinny London team for a virtual instalment of Closet Confessions. This week’s episode is all about vintage clothing, and Trinny has established five key styling rules to ensure that your vintage pieces always look timeless…
Layer well-proportioned pieces to flatter your body shape, belt pieces that feel too small, play down the glamour of smarter items with a fresh pair of white trainers, dress down opulent fabrics with more casual attire for a breath of modernity, and finally - don’t be afraid to pair vintage clothes with neon for a look that’s fabulous and effortlessly fun…
I have no interest in fashion or make up. But I stumbled upon Trinny a few days ago. Her joy at being able to share her collection with us shines through. It's feels like we are round her house for tea and a chat and I just want to watch more. I loved seeing her tour around her wardrobe. She's not being showy, she offers ideas how her ideas can be adapted to smaller budgets. I love that it not about fast fashion. Clothes are treasured and will be passed on to family. A charming, engaging down to earth lady.
Is this my favorite episode? I keep coming back to it. I’m mesmerized
Trinny knows colour, understands proportions and female body. That, ofcourse, is an innate knowledge but her love and enthusiasm for fashion is contagious.
💕
Exactly. She knows about the aesthetic need for a long cuff below the three quarter length sleeve.
Trinny, thanks for showing your legs, which are great by the way. It gives us permission to do the same even if they’re not perfect. I’m 67 and, to my incredible joy, recently discovered that I could still wear fun dresses just above the knee by pairing them with over the knee boots and/or wearing good tights. Love you sooo much! (My new TL make up came and I love it!)
I've been collecting vintage for 25yrs, thanks for refreshing us all with modernising it as you can get stuck in time warp dressing! I just wore my mums dress out to lunch with her, it was last worn 49yrs ago and she still fits it! Have photographed it on my IG. Clothes tell stories, thanks Trinny we love you!
Looove the printed prada dress 👗
I wore my grandma’s 50 year old dress - long sleeve slightly puff shoulder green chiffon with embroidered flowers just below my knee to a wedding. It matched my extremely long ginger hair - which i styled rolled back with loose curls and added for a modern touch: gold waist belt bag and shoes and chunky green pom pom necklace. I got so many compliments and felt like a vintage goddess.
Those silver shoes with the black dress are so good!
Sorry to hear about your mother Trinny. My mother also has vascular dementia which was dreadful when she lived at home, but when she went into a care home it was much better! She now sleeps all day and does know me but we are not allowed to visit - I can understand the reason but it's heart breaking for me. We are now waiting for her to die, she keeps asking to die, but she is such a tough lady at 90 she keeps coming back from the brink. A wonderful lady and the best mother anyone could wish for - but we all say that don't we. Sorry got carried away there - love you in that gorgeous shaped black dress, but then you look gorgeous in everything!🤗
Sending love Bessie 💕
In the same boat Bessie.
And yes, Trinny looks lovely in that black dress
YES! Winter sequins! Xxx
Please trin do a book on your life from being little . To when you when to boarding school at six I think that structure d you as a person x
That Hermès purse😍. I’m definitely one of your true followers. Learn something every time I watch
My favourite Hermes - the Constance. How amazing to have access to such beautiful heirlooms including your mother’s earrings as well as your own curated vintage. You just have amazing talent and style. I loved it.😍
I LOVE vintage,,,either from our own pieces or bought second-hand. Fresh, new outfits that incorporate an old piece add such an individualistic touch,,,,like an antique in a modern contemporary room. PS the blush Prada shift with blouse underneath ❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant, joyful! Love, love, love your mix of vintage and modern style!!!!
I wouldn't imagine you'd get so much use out of that jeweled belt! You do manage to use it a lot. Wonderful.
I could watch Trinny for hours especially doing vintage and i appreciate how she thinks of us Aussie girls with our different season
Makeup perfect everytime
💕
Such a fun play on old pieces!!
For us in the north grey becomes a stable during the dark winter months. A Trinnytouch is badly needed!!!!!
I got so much joy from this video
You made a fancy gold brocade jacket look fresh and modern. 😍 Video suggestion: a basic (but interesting) wardrobe w/ out sequins or extra embellishments.
Lovely! I do enjoy seeing when Lucy takes on your challenge. I can relate totally to how she shows the trend.
Love from Canada
💕
Love seeing you in vintage, without modern interpretation
Love love love the Chanel pearls with the white shoe boots!
So cool . Thanks Trinny 😊 💛💛💛
Your clothes have wonderful memories. You are so good at updating your wardrobe.
My mom is much shorter than me so I don't fit into her clothes. I got a few pieces from my mother in law, but now I only have one dress left. I went through a vintage phase over a decade ago and then when I became a mom 8 years ago I just didn't wear those pieces any more. But I loved Trinny's take on all of her pieces 👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😍
I wish I would have been watching your videos a few years ago when I let a vintage dior blazer slip through my fingers because it was a bit tight when done up! Beautiful pieces! Such creative styling ❤
The Prada is such a SATC Naked Dress!
Ah I looove closet confessions. Trinny you have the best style I've ever seen 🤗 These videos always inspire me... now i need to hunt for a vintage masterpiece 🧐😁
The purple magenta Prada piece is amazing with the purple pleat skirt
Love the gold jacket, it looks amazing. You have so many brilliant ideas Trinny. Winter sequins next week would be great 🙂❤
So many amazing pieces. I have a purple and silver pant suit that my mum wore in the 70s and a long gold brocade skirt. I should get them restyled so I can actually wear them. I have only worn them for themed parties. Thank you so much for acknowledging Australia and that we are going into summer. Plus you pronounce Melbourne correctly. So much to love about you.
YAY!! Finally timeless vintage!
Loved it! Modernizing vintage pieces is what I like to see ❤️ ty for sharing your sentimental pieces. Your awesome!
I love this so much. Lovely stories as well 💕
You have a fabulous wardrobe!
You are amazingly stylish.....I can't stop watching your youtube channel.....!
Such beautiful cloths. You are so creative. I won’t be so quick to donate cloths that become too big or too small
Very creative. It's so pleasant to watch you :)
Omg winter sequins bring me sooo muchhhh joy!!!!! X
Just fabulous. Such fun and practical. Love you to pieces.
Me watching this and knowing I’m going to dive into my grandmothers closet after this 🤩🤩
You two ladies look stunning!! 😊😊
I loved this!!! I'm 45 and have several pieces still in my wardrobe from the 90s, yet I never consider them vintage and I never wear them as I feel in my eyes, they date me. This however has shed diamond bright light on the whole dilemma!!!! THANK YOU as always, much love
Trinny is just so talented! 👏
Trinny, please do a video on what to wear on a plane.
I have a similar brocade coat in coat...fits me now ....I live in the tropics and it will be my Christmas outfit with white trousers and white shirt with collar covered in chunky jewels....I need short white booties though!
Hi Trinny. You’ve given me an idea! I still have my mother’s gold brocade (she was a red head and I’m fair but warm) wedding dress that was made for her in 1952 and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. I think I might try and make a coat from it (I am an avid dressmaker) rather like in style the one you wore with the white underneath. Hopefully I might get some wear out of it!
What a splendid fun idea! Wish we could see the before/after. I bet it will be amazing.
Here is an idea for a future video. How to wear a wedding dress after the wedding is over?
I would love to see that from Trinny
Oh yes please...let's get creative with our wedding dresses...💃...I've considered taking the lace and making a little jacket... 🤩
Yes!! And bridesmaid dresses 👗
what to do when marriage is over?
I loved them all! Has given me some inspiration to try some old favourites. Loved the last outfit! That yellow was a lovely fresh suprise
Love, Love Love this, thank you Trinny & Lucy. Winter sequins please.
OMG, you've just updates my whole wardrobe, thank you
Live these looks and ideas of re-styling vintage pieces that I've acquired.
I Love this Lady 👩 💛
Great updated looks. That penultimate outfit with the gold brocade jacket reminded me of Adam Ant for some reason - that kind of piratey look.
"It's the lighting" 😂
I loved closet confessions- greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
I loved this video!! Also, I cannot wait for 50 Shades of Grey!
Love the series. Trinny is amazing♥️.
So funny! - I was JUST looking at that Prada coat online at the RealReal last night. I ended picking up a metallic tweed coat from Worth for 55 USD! (I had a credit from when they sold me fake Alexander McQueen accidentally!). In my basement I had boxes of clothes I was going to sell since I do not wear them (that was pre watching Trinny). But now I find myself looking through those boxes for pieces I CAN wear now that I know how to put them together in interesting ways. Thanks Trinny!
I love the yellow pleated trousers
Trinny a video on boots or shoes in general
Oh yes😍🤩
LV IT TRINNY ★★★★★ ♥♥♥♥♥
Dear Trinny, dear Lucy! I love Closet confessions so much (and everything else that you do btw). It has become part of my weekend morning routine because I just love waking up with you guys, it immediately puts me in a good mood and gives me inspiration for the day.
There is one idea for a closet confessions that I'm thinking about for a while now and I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I'd like to challenge you, so here it goes: do you think you could do a "When to echo and when to balance out". Trinny, you mention these roules so often in your closet confessions and it always makes so much sense, but when I'm on my own I'm often a bit at a loss, so I thaught maybe there is a way you could kind of sum it up for us. If possible this could be an ULTIMATE closet confessions!! What do you think?
i like the last outfit brillant
J'adore, c'est une femme incroyable 💐❤
That was lovely! I’m too big to wear vintage unfortunately x
love from Poland
Lucy is such a classic beauty 😍
Ok ok 11.20 and I thibk trinnybis having an AbFab moment!
Live the "christening' dress, I remember and actually really liked that style dress from turn of the century (2000s)... when trinny said kimono from turn of I did imagine 1910 😳😁... then she says the jumper is from 1910!
Loved this!!
Amazing!! Could you please do something with vinyl/ patent leather? ❤️💜
So beautiful!
You amaze me!
Love the white blouse , where from?
süper süper süupperrr🙏🏼💜💜💜💜
The blush. LMAO
Wonderful vintage blog ! I wondered since your a public figure and attend so many events have you worn something formal more than once and not cared about if someone saw it before ??
And I have a vintage coat like that but it’s pink would you still wear white under it to make it modern
Love this, thanks. I am really into burgundy right now so that could be another colour idea 💡?
Didn’t like the first dress with pants, because of the voluminous bottom. Loved the black jacket.
Fun!
The dress from the 2nd outfit: Why don´t make a skirt of it if you love the print so much? Or a scarf?
I think it looks too good on her to do that. I think a little silk panel insert, painted in same colour palette would work beautifully.
I really love retro vintage too check it out.And retro groovy.😎
Fun outfits....you are 56? No one would think so....women today who take care of themselves look timeless too! When we are young if we either use sunscreen nowadays or in the past stayed mostly OUT of the sun, don't smoke, and don't overdo alcohol DO look so much younger than our grandmothers did at our age. I am 73, which no one believes, they say I look in my fifties.....but I would be happy to just knock off ten years in my appearance...Life for me is actually MORE fun each decade but I was a serious nose to the grindsfone person in my 20s slogging through ten years of higher education. No fun in the sum for me THAT decade! I didnt learn how to have fun as an adult til I met my husband in my mid 30s....life has just gotten better and better ever since.
Lovely.
How would you style an ankle length green vintage kimono which is very long?
Grey please.
Loved the video. Great combining. I just read that Zara’s target market 18 to 35 year olds. Is that true?
Fun...next???...how about sequins????
I need help, how can I make my mother's burgundy jacket and skirt suit more modern? It's velvet and the jacket has big shoulders and it's very short ending below the waist. I love it but I feel very old with it
Trinny. Do you like the shorter length in pants now? I have long legs so it feels uncomfortable to me. Any suggestions for that? Also where did you get the palazzo pants in the last outfit? Great.
Zara 💕
@@TrinnyLondon I should have known it! Lol. Thanks Trinny.
How to dress up casual pieces like joggers, athletic tops and pants etc
Love the clothes, how about trying some different style shoes?
A lot of online purchases I get are NOT true to size. Turns me off. What do you do about that. I love your makeup, at least it is true to size.
China stuff is NEVER true to size or fit for purpose. How can we tell when we purchase clothing that it is true to size?
You really do have lovely legs Trinny ❤️
And beautiful skin
Clearly the master needs a greater challenge. Think, viewers, think!!
Lovely styling!! That’s not a proper kimono though. More of a fancy Samue top
Lucy you need a fringe too high for head you’ll look so much nicer
Lucy has a beautiful face with fine, graceful, features. With or without a fringe, she's very attractive.
There's no good reason to tell any woman she should cover up.
👌👋💫🤩
Vintage clothes don’t fit unless one is skinny, with a small waist. I have a rectangular shape, am about a size 12, and have never found a single vintage garment that fit.
