@@eliasbouhout1 That might make sense for AAA game companies or normal games but the problem goes deeper than that, because those problems existed in the past when these games were made as well. If that were really the case you would still be seeing games like this being made by indie studios, but they're not (or they're quite rare). The problem is that the mindset of the greater population has changed, what the customer wants and what the creators want to (or are able to) provide is completely different from back then. There are also hard restrictions on creativity now you could make anything you wanted back then without facing legal consequences or fear of being canceled or shunned on social media/news. Luckily japan is more resistant to change than most other countries, but they are slowly becoming just as bad as the rest of the world when it comes to creative freedom as they have to cater to an increasingly sensitive audience
@@EggiTheShadow I think a lot of that starts with big corporations and then goes down to indie studios and the grater public, massive corporations dominate the market and can push whatever they want even if it is against their playerbase (hell, often western game companies go out of their way to attack their consumers) they are effectively too big to fail while the consumers are divided and diluted, people can't boycott those companies as there will always be someone willing to pay them, this is different from the past where every studio was much smaller and fiercely competing with each other to deliver the best thing that they could, even against the calls for censorship and demonization of video games, gamers were a compact consumerbase so they had to be catered to in order do get their money while the rest of society would be ignored because they weren't part of the market (maybe with the exception of family friendly game companies like Nintendo with the Wii), just look at how the Playstation marketed itself when it came out and the culture that it created and how modern day Sony acts, it's the difference between a new and young market full of competition and a corporate dominated market that doesn't have to care about its costumers, this inevitably has consequences on how the market as a whole works, the people trying to stifle creativity started from big companies and their ecosystem from there they try to control the greater market
@@eliasbouhout1 What you say makes sense, thanks for elaborating on it. I'm just concerned that games are very quickly becoming less of a form of creative expression and more of a vessel of the currently widely accepted ideals and agenda. You cant say this, you cant do that and its a completely fictional piece of media. Say in 10 years time.... haha not even that long it has already happened, it will be a hollow form of media completely designed to target the brain's reward system with stories and personalities that cater completely to the masses without any substance or identity of its own. If you're a fan of anime, which i assume you are since you're commenting on a pc98 video you should be able to see it already happening, it shows clear as day looking a a show made in the 90's or early 2000's compared to many modern anime its not something i can necessarily explain you can just see it, you can feel the humanity (not sure if this is the right word) in the earlier shows, which just isn't present in the new shows, of course it is still there, but it almost feels like they were made by ai considering how generic all the personalities and plots are, its all the same crap with a different paint job

brutal screenshoot... why games aren't like this now?
Increased corporatization, normification and profit seeking by greedy executives
Because capitalism encourages greed.
