Great video thank you. Very useful for first time servicing my xcm fork. My damper unit pushes in ok, but has a gritty / metallic noise when it comes back out, and it doesnt return all the way out of its own accord; you have to pull it out. I guess my damper unit is on the path to failure. The lock out function still works ok.
Hi, you are talking about the damper unit, right? Have you disassembled your fork and taken the damper unit off? And you have found that the unit compresses ok but doesn't extend to its original length by itself? It IS normal because it is a "damper". So you need to pull it out after you have pushed it in. Hope you will figure it out. Thanks for watching!
@@MindDesignFactory thanks for your reply; yes fork disassembled, its the damper unit: which compresses ok, good to know it doesnt come out all the way itself. I still have the metallic / grinding noise when it extends. I'm going to lube the shaft and put it back in - then see what happens. Its an old secondhand bike, stanchion posts are a bit rusted; I'll see how it goes after servicing it and then decide whether to replace parts or get a new fork.
If the metalic noise persists after lubricating the shaft, then the seal of the damper piston head may be shot, I mean broken. But in that case lock-out won't work either. I am very curious to know what is going on inside your damper cartridge, too. If you don't mind, please keep me informed of this issue.
slider sleeve on my fork are dry, have no grease, muddy and sandy. After applying WD-40 and trying to rotate they did eventually rotate but not nearly enough for full rotation. Any tips on how to get them moving?
Hi, SR Suntour recommends using their own "ConPanna Fork Grease" or any Teflon (PTFE) based lubricants. Lithium grease is not recommended on plastic and rubber parts. Silicone grease should work fine although it is a bit pricier than other types of grease. And any "stanchion lubes" can also be used on bushes, seals and other sliding parts as well. Thanks for watching!
Hi, i pressed the oil unit like you did but it didnt so compressed actually it down to the middle and the slowly went up again, is it ok or should goes down complete?
The damper unit should be fully compressed when you push it down. Because your fork won't be able to use its full travel otherwise. If your fork's stanchions can be fully compressed when you push down the handlebar, then it would be ok.
As I said, your fork won't be able to use its full stroke range then. But your damper unit might be different from mine. So, if your fork is fully compressed when you push down the stanchions as well as you can lockout it, then your fork would work just fine. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your damper unit.
Hi, if you can't find any bike shop in your local area that could help you with the new spring, then you can try to find it at Aliexpress. Just check out the following links for reference (these are my affiliate links): s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DCHWvLN s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DkQv94B s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFLkGx1 Or just search for "sr suntour xcm spring" at Aliexpress. I use a cleaning rod for flutes and Scott Shop towels to clean the lower legs of forks. You can also use a bottle brush or any similar tool. Thanks for watching!
Shimano grease I use in the video is a kind of multi-purpose grease and is not aggressive to rubber nor plastic. Just like their mineral based brake oil. Thanks for watching!
When the damper cartridge leaks oil, then you need to replace it with the new one. But it might be a better choice to buy a new one. If you can't find a new cartridge locally, check out the following link (my affiliate link to Aliexpress): s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DErKIXx You would need a "XCM-Shoulder 26" type cartridge.
