Truly a MAGNUM OPUS, this is one of those albums that is every bit as challenging and rewarding to LISTEN to as it was for them to record. You put this album on and listen to the last note. Timeless.
So cool to see stuff like this. I've said this on other videos but I'll say it again: as a 21-year old who's only gotten to know and fall in love with DMB in the last few years, it's incredible to be able to who they were in the '90s. I'm so lucky.
damn dave had really hit his stride here....thats a man that is doing EXACTLY what he's supposed to be doing in life....he moves that band with the sheer force of his will!
It's a shame there are no shows on TV like ultrasound anymore. Back in the 90s these kinds of shows were some of my favorite to watch. no one nowadays cares anything about the people they listen to. the songs are so fake and manufactured that there's basically no human beings behind them
there are docs all over youtube about the making of certain albums. typically something the band themselves have made. try searching you might be surprised
The general public barely gives a shit anymore. What are they gonna show? The drums being sample replaced and quantized, vox being autotuned? There's so little substance left in immediately available and popular music that there's nothing to show for it. 5 writers recycling lyrics? When Dave here has the AUDACITY to be humble about his incredible penmanship
Best album by far track to track, if I had to hear one live from start to finish before these crowded streets is definitely my selection Alanis is a must
Just saw my first live DMB show last week and it was AMAZING! Still jammin just as hard as they did nearly 30 yrs ago! Nothin but LOVE for this legendary band😍🙌🍻
Love this. I could remember taping this on my vcr and watching it over and over. It is one of my favorite albums by them. It still gives me goosebumps listening to these songs and how creative they are.
This is amazing :) Thanks for posting! I had no idea they didn't already have these songs down before going into the studio. This is my favorite record.
Man... I happen to be visiting a friend at UVA and I knew when I heard them. It wasn't a stretch to think to myself. "These guys are going to be a major band very soon." Funk, country and jazz, in a rock format mixed together perfectly. Not a weak link in the bunch.
I found his comments on living in the moment to be most interesting. These guys are creators. The creative process is long and arduous-you have to build on top of all the work you’ve already done. It’s nice that this band seems to all get along better than-say- Pink Floyd. 20 years later they haven’t been able to recapture the magic of BTCS, though Busted Stuff was also great.
I really love this album, but the interludes in between the songs are some of the most interesting forgotten gems of the band's career. I actually thought they were saying "love head" when I first heard it. haha I just still think that adding backup vocals to Stay was a mistake.
Thanks for the upload. GREAT Record. I was listening to this in-period but somehow never saw this doco. Unfortunately gone are the days of that signature Crack from Carter's snare drum :-(
Thanks for the upload... I remember my excitement for this album... and this just added to it after seeing this "ultra sound". My favorite album of all time and simply a masterpiece.
“Im more critical of the stuff I write that’s depressing....” -Dave .....there ya go: why the Lillywhite Sessions were what they were, got scrapped/shelved, replaced w Everyday, then revisited and released on Busted Stuff once Where Are You Going? and You Never Know emerged and were added to lighten it up. .......insight and foreshadowing in that phrase right there.
this really is fascinating. the band and dave especially felt the pressure to write new songs in the studio and steve was able to whip them into this incredible sound. he wrangled their insanity and he is a production genius. dave was on the edge of manic depression and he succumbed to it the following year during the lillywhite sessions. that album would have been so well made but they must have butt heads with steve and that is so unfortunate. they didnt realize what they had with steve. everyday was okay but it was a reaction and dave and that producer wrote it without the band. when the band got back in the studio after busted stuff they had a producer who was a yes man and just made easy loops for the band to stay positive about. it is what it is. will always cherish these gems before stand up came out. i feel it made the band limit their potential because it was easier to do.
I don't go anymore, haven't been since 2016. The last one I went to I just didn't like the way they sounded. The sound that I fell in love with was/is gone.
Before these crowded streets is my favorite album of theirs of all time. To wedge the dreaming tree is my favorite song of the album. Something about that song
I think it had a lot to do with RCA ditching Steve Lillywhite, and bringing in Glen Ballard. I think they tried to recover with Away From the World, but now it's a completely different band.
This album...🤍 There are very few bands/artists that have released perfect/flawless albums & this is amongst the greatest ever for me. An easy Top 3!! Tool - Lateralus Dave Matthews Band - Before These Crowded Streets Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Chris Cornell - Euphoria Mourning Soundgarden - Superunknown A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon Big Wreck - 7even Radiohead - OK Computer Dire Straits - Alchemy/Live 84' John Mayer - Where The Light Is/Live In L.A. Audioslave - Audioslave The Beatles - Abbey Road Counting Crows - August & Everything After Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks 30 Seconds To Mars - A Beautiful Lie The Doors - The Doors The Police - Synchronicity
We used to be so artsy and creative before 9/11. Now everyone is fame hungry, afraid, overly political, hyper policed, racist and jumpy. The 90s had a calm America will never see again.
Oh they're out there. They're just different and buried under mountains of bland stuff. But I share the nostalgic sentiment. They were good times. Happier, seemingly.
Man, this brings back so many memories of 1998. To be 20 years old and care free. I've got goosebumps.
I was 21 then. First time I saw DMB as well, 12/98. Miss those days
Pig......... We are incredibly lucky to be a part of these times with this band! Heres to Summer 2022 and many many many more!
how lucky we are to have existed in this slice of human history to be able to sit down and listen to this album
Truly a MAGNUM OPUS, this is one of those albums that is every bit as challenging and rewarding to LISTEN to as it was for them to record. You put this album on and listen to the last note. Timeless.
It dethroned the Titanic soundtrack.
wow thanks for bringing this music documentary back again. Dave Matthews Band - the greatest band ever.
i just cant believe that you could actually turn on a tv at one point and see THIS on! literally cannot fathom that
Carter is the best rock drummer of the 21st century
Danny Carey has entered the chat…
He's not a rock drummer.
😂😂😂
My favorite studio album thus far. I can listen to this on replay for days, years.
Without a doubt their best work.
Dave brings me to the brink of tears sometimes, such a wonderful human
He’s a liberal fuctard.
So cool to see stuff like this. I've said this on other videos but I'll say it again: as a 21-year old who's only gotten to know and fall in love with DMB in the last few years, it's incredible to be able to who they were in the '90s. I'm so lucky.
Nothing but love for these gentlemen. Love for 25 years.
Musics changed so drastically tho. This was there last great record
Before these crowded streets.... still my Dave Matthews Band favorite album.... Dreaming tree one of my favorite songs
Steve Lillywhite....that moment when you realize you cherish every album he's produced and didn't know he was the unseen hand.
lillywhite sessions, the best
Amen to that
he brought order to something that was inherently chaotic (both are good and necessary)
The way he mic's drums is incredible. They sound so crisp and full
Great to see that even Dave struggled in the studio. You don't ever see the hard parts.
damn dave had really hit his stride here....thats a man that is doing EXACTLY what he's supposed to be doing in life....he moves that band with the sheer force of his will!
Remnember when Mtv didn't suck?
Ah, pre-9/11 New York and BTCS. It was a good time, indeed.
It's a shame there are no shows on TV like ultrasound anymore. Back in the 90s these kinds of shows were some of my favorite to watch. no one nowadays cares anything about the people they listen to. the songs are so fake and manufactured that there's basically no human beings behind them

@@SammyMakepeace I highly recommend checking out Brandi Carlile.
Released the month i got out of the military. Home with my friends and family. This album was the soundtrack! Thanks for the lovely memories!
Best album by far track to track, if I had to hear one live from start to finish before these crowded streets is definitely my selection Alanis is a must
Exactly my thoughts,word for eord
Absolute gold! This album was a life changer for me. So much inspiration!
BTCS is my favorite Dave album. I've been a Dave super fan for 20 years. The Stone is my all time fave DMB song
I have one of the precious few vinyl copies of this album. It is beyond outstanding and my favorite album of his catalogue.
You my friend, are a saint. Thank you so much for posting this.
So excited! Been waiting over 10 years to see them. This Friday South Lake Tahoe my son and I!😍
Just saw my first live DMB show last week and it was AMAZING! Still jammin just as hard as they did nearly 30 yrs ago! Nothin but LOVE for this legendary band😍🙌🍻
Still my favorite album by them and still in my top 10. It's timeless.
When mtv was about music. Miss those days.
Love this. I could remember taping this on my vcr and watching it over and over. It is one of my favorite albums by them. It still gives me goosebumps listening to these songs and how creative they are.
Finding this video was a Christmas miracle. Such an amazing time for the band and the memories these songs bring to me.
This is amazing :) Thanks for posting! I had no idea they didn't already have these songs down before going into the studio. This is my favorite record.
Like being in a time machine to some of the greatest days of my life. Love DMB forever and always...
Yes!!!!
I feel like this moment in time was DMB at their absolute best...and DMB at their best is better than all the rest
Thanks for the upload... brah. This album changed my life. April 28, 1998.
Obviously the best DMB studio album, but more than that, one of the greatest albums of all time
Goosebumps! I freaking love this band! You can not deny the love they have for each other and the love of what they do!
This is awesome! Ever since I heard this absolutely gorgeous album for the first time I've wanted to know more about it.
I had this on VHS way back when. It was sent to a college radio station and my friends smuggled it out and gave it to me!!
thank you for posting this! the album is a masterpiece i love it so!
oh yeah and Carter and Dave are like musical soulmates i love how well they work together.
Easily their best album
Awesome. I'd love to see all the cut footage.

I actually thought they were saying "love head" when I first heard it. haha
I just still think that adding backup vocals to Stay was a mistake.
the entire band version of Stay is a mistake compared to that acoustic dave and tim version
Omg!!! I miss the 90s so bad.
love this even tho it was 1998. thank you 9-2-20
Oh My! The best album ever! When I fell in Love with my hubby! Brilliant! Soo close to my heart!💙🙏💙
Magical Album!💜☮️🌛🌟🎸
Seeing my 19th and 20th shows this summer. Gotta love a solid live dmb show.
BTCS was peak genius. RIP Leroi 👑💜👑💜👑
What an absolute gem!! Totally made our day 😁 THANK YOU!!
I wish they play their music again on regular radio.
LeRoi was amazing...miss his presence
Thanks for the upload. GREAT Record. I was listening to this in-period but somehow never saw this doco. Unfortunately gone are the days of that signature Crack from Carter's snare drum :-(
9:42. Goosebumps. I need the master tapes of this song.
It's interesting on the final mix they only kept the final "don't drink the water yeah" phrase of that intro.
Thanks for the upload... I remember my excitement for this album... and this just added to it after seeing this "ultra sound". My favorite album of all time and simply a masterpiece.
God, MTV used to be so great.
Be in peace Leroi x
THIS ALBUM IS TRUE AMD REAL!!! TOUCHES MY HEART FOREVER AND EVER!!! ❤❤❤❤
Damn!!!! 98 I was just born how I wish I was 16 in that time
Wow, you just made me feel old!
I was 18 and those were some great days
I was 17 and remember the thrill of hearing don't drink the water on the radio for the first time
I was 27 years old in 1998 and the 90's were the BEST time to be twenty something.
I turned 16 in 98🤘 Great time to grow up. Awesome music for sure.

This was everything I needed tonight.
Magical Album!💜☮️🌛🎼🎸🌟☮️💜
This album is such a game changer
“Im more critical of the stuff I write that’s depressing....” -Dave .....there ya go: why the Lillywhite Sessions were what they were, got scrapped/shelved, replaced w Everyday, then revisited and released on Busted Stuff once Where Are You Going? and You Never Know emerged and were added to lighten it up. .......insight and foreshadowing in that phrase right there.

✨🎼🥰✨😍✨my Favourite musician, band, music…!
who would dislike?
When LeRoi died...so did a big chunk of DMB...they were never the same...
True very true
rushbum I agree. I love old Dave like this, but have never liked them nearly as much without Roi.
I liked 2009-2010 but its gotten too soft in the past few years
Best album of the 90's. A true masterpiece IMO.
I don't go anymore, haven't been since 2016. The last one I went to I just didn't like the way they sounded. The sound that I fell in love with was/is gone.
Those notepads with the scratch lyrics would be worth multi millions today
If someone other than Dave himself owns that notebook of lyrics, I have a serious amount of envy.
Before these crowded streets is my favorite album of theirs of all time. To wedge the dreaming tree is my favorite song of the album. Something about that song
This was the first DMB LP I ever loved. I was listening to Don't drink the Water and it took me. I had no choice.
MY FAVORITE SHOW!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant amazing bunch of guyZ 🌼
who would fucking dislike this video
all so young holy smokes
And its their most organic album yet
Miss and Love Leroi!!! Gru Grux King!!! May he RIP!!!🕯️😇🕯️🙏💯♥️
Damn that was amazing
After this album these guys weren’t the same. They lost a lot of their personality after their album with the most personality
I think it had a lot to do with RCA ditching Steve Lillywhite, and bringing in Glen Ballard. I think they tried to recover with Away From the World, but now it's a completely different band.
This album...🤍

Not a good album since this one
Straight Pop. Not rock
They were great last week February 2023 in Phoenix
5:53
I love him to pieces.
goose bumps across the board. Goose bumps! I hope I never see these on a goose. LOL!
Love, love, love
so good...ty
Dave's pure reaction at 14:37 head swings around "there's 8000 of us...850,000 people" 😂😂
We used to be so artsy and creative before 9/11. Now everyone is fame hungry, afraid, overly political, hyper policed, racist and jumpy. The 90s had a calm America will never see again.
It’s such a tragedy really. I miss those times
Oh they're out there. They're just different and buried under mountains of bland stuff. But I share the nostalgic sentiment. They were good times. Happier, seemingly.
Favorite Album
My favorite album!!
This is sooo good copperpot.
Happy 24th Birthday BTCS!
MY FAVORITE ALBUM
17:38 for those curious looking for Alannis and Dave's thoughts on her contributions
Anyone who thinks this band sucks hasn’t heard this album. BTCS 🐐
My third favorite DMB album is BTCS. UTTD and Crash are 1,2
Peak DMB imo. love all their stuff.
