It sounds like Matt's voice is a bit blown out for the first half of this set! Is this normal for him these days? Or maybe just a cold or a bit drunk? Haha. Regardless it's awesome to see him so comfortable on stage and having so much fun. Love seeing him in goofy mode.
I feel like it's getting a bit too much recently. I love that he's feeling more comfortable on stage but not every lyrics needs to be acted out. Some songs kind of require him to stand tall in front of the mic imo.
Saw them yesterday and he was completely shitfaced. It was uncomfortable to watch and half the crowd either walked out or started throwing their own party independent of what they were playing.

Matt has never been good live. But it's gotten worse. It's just mumbling at this point and it sounds like he's out of breath the whole time, and there's no power and no melody (as opposed to the wonderful studio versions). Couple of years ago they had that project with the female singers and I think that's the only way to save this band's live reputation. Such a shame cause the band is exceptional & Bryan Devendorf is my favourite drummer.
I think it's because set is full of energetic songs, it's not the best for Matt's vocals. In slower ones he sings very well. I miss female vocalists though, it's one of my favorite moments in their art, "I am easy to find"
Nah, he used to be a good singer until 2013, just listen Heavenfaced's music performance on BBC Radio 6, check "This Is the Last Time" music performance from their band on Studio Q, isnt about matt doesnt know to sing, hes just tired, like he has no energy to sing anymore, i can see that on his face, he just need to rest.
It's wild how much of a rich vocal sound is on the national records and how nasal and weak it is live. Honestly just not very good in terms of vocal performance. I would submit a vote for some heavy compression and more crooning like the albums instead of this squelchy nasal barky nonsense.
I saw them back in their High Violet days where Matt was (and maybe still is but definitely was back then) drinking heavily and the vocals were phenomenal and the physical performance was more subdued and all the better for it. No idea what happened here but definitely seems like an off day

The audio quality of the video isn't the best. I've seen them half a dozen times and it always sounds great live.
