    Watched this video last night. Today I went out to pick up and new/used joiner. They guy I bought it from gave me an eagle oil can as a gift. Would have never even know what it was if I hadn’t watched you. All this time watching RUclips is starting to pay off. Great restoration.

    You really Flitz'd the heck out of that oiler. Great job getting the dents out and making it look new!!

  • @MrDoeboy356
    @MrDoeboy356 5 лет назад +1

    A steel ball bearing and a strong neodymium magnet will take them dents out buddy. Ball bearing inside and magnet outside. Just keep going back and forth. That’s how we get dents out of wind Instruments. The can came out awesome.

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  5 лет назад

      Thanks - the brass is pretty thick, but I'll give it a try!

    • @MrDoeboy356
      @MrDoeboy356 5 лет назад

      It’s amazing how it works. You wouldn’t think it would but after some back and forth you see them start to come out.

    I can see what the bottom is supposed to look like on mine. Its smashed flat I guess thats why the pump assembly didnt want to line up when I put it together. I trimmed the draw tube a little. Its so flat it looks like its factory like a wide base. Closer inspection reveals some creasing or crack. Suppose thats what was leaking. You got a deal on yours for two bucks, very nice oiler!

    Very nice, just found me one on EBay, looks just like this one and from what I’ve found according to the patent it’s from around 1935 so a early version for sure, the later ones didn’t have as many corrugations and the newer ones base is a little flared so it won’t turn over as easy, great restoration 👍🏻

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I wish the base was designed a bit wider - it is a little tippy.

    Interesting. I'll have to go look at mine. Mine have the metal flex spouts. I tried to polish mine but it seemed that they have some durable coating over the brass to prevent tarnish. I wound up just cleaning and waxing. Nice job!

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  5 лет назад

      It looks like they may have clear coated them. The No. 66 I have has splotchy "patina" where some of the brass got exposed to the air.

    357magdad, sorry I still haven't caught up yet - but sure enjoyed all these oilers! The turn-around on yours is most impressive, and anyone who makes forms gets extra points because it can be trial and error and very time-consuming. Very nice job. I've got to go Flintz my shop... Oh, I have to add that that last shot of the can spinning was quite Dalek!

So needless to say I've got allkinda stuff compounds, polish, wax lol I've given a lot away and used a lot ..and I have some that I bought... so I've just been trying to use what I've got..but I have used flitz in the past and it works great! I think if you had some kinds of rounded steel rod you might have been able to force those dents out from the inside.

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  5 лет назад

      I tried it with a rounded wood dowel. A viewer said they use steel balls and magnets to force dents out of brass music instruments - I though that was interesting.
