Hello! Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has been enjoying and been so supportive concerning the increased manga content on my channel. Manga and anime have been a huge part of my life (at this point for more than half of it lol), so I'm glad you are all so welcoming to me sharing this other side of my regular enjoyment :) And also I will be reading more of Asano's work -- I read Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction the other day and will be reading Oyasumi Punpun and Solanin soon :) As usual please, feel most welcome to leave your recommendations in the comment section -- I'd suggest using the keyword 'recommendation' in your comment, because that's the one I mostly use when sifting through comments. As always, I wish you a wonderful day and please do enjoy yet another summer haiku: Sheltering with a butterfly Under the shade of the trees, -- This also is the Karma of a previous life. - Issa
i read it today!! it was, undoubtedly, one of the best mangas i have read so far and your organized thoughts on it made me release the frenzied energy clogged up in me from having read it in one sitting!!
Was just looking for vids on another Asano work, Goodnight Punpun, and decided to click on this because I'm interested in Downfall. Was surprised but delighted to see you show off your outfit haha. It's a great look. Thanks for the thoughtful review, plan to read this someday.
I really enjoy the content you put on your channel. Keep doing what you do! I enjoy these manga reviews since I too am an Anime/manga fan. Love from Senegal🇸🇳 and Kuwait 🇰🇼
I'm so thrilled you're reading Asano! 'Claustrophobic' is the perfect description for this book, you're so right. His work is really interesting, though I've still got so much to read. I loved Downfall a lot. I'm really enjoying Dead Dead Demon's, too - it's deceptively cute xD I'd recommend A Girl on the Shore but it's really tough, which is maybe to be expected at this point! When I was in Japan, I bought the complete Oyasumi Punpun collection on a whim but I still haven't read it, and that was about four years ago 😅 I also have a a neat collection of short stories that was published in French under the name Le fin du monde avant le lever du jour. (As you may be able to tell, I tend to just buy anything that has his name on it.) Anyway, this is a really great review, as usual. I saw in your comment that you're going to read Solanin; that's one I haven't read, so I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on that :D
Oh I read the first volume of Dead Dead Demon's a couple of days ago and wow, that was wild lol -- I didn't understand much at first (the flashback was also hard for me to discern at first), but I think it's really interesting. I think I'm going to read his other completed work first though -- I'm hoping to read Punpun in November and Solanin in October -- really looking forward to it :) So cool that you can read in French! There's a lot of manga I'm interested in, but can't read yet because my French, Spanish and Japanese aren't good enough for me to read them in a timely fashion -- luckily there is loads of work in German -- looking to read volume 2-4 of Rent-a-Girlfriend in German soon :) As always, thanks so much for watching!🤗✨
Downfall Is one of the only ones I haven't read from Inio Asano. It sounds good. (I have to keep reiterating the fact Goodnight Punpun is the best thing, by far, Inio Asano as done.) A really good little series about a 28 year old woman's struggles with depression, mental disorders, and sexuality is "My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness" and the two follow up volumes called "My Solo Exchange Diary" (vols 1 and 2). They are a great look at depression, coping with success, and dealing with ones place in society.
I'm going to try and read Punpun in one go in November :) I read and reviewed My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness about a year or so --- really enjoyed it :) I just got the first volume of My Solo Exchange Diary -- looking forward to picking that one up soon. She has another piece coming out in January called 'My Alcoholic Escape from Reality' so you might be interested in that one as well :)
AAAAAAAAAH this denim dress is EVERYTHING!! i'm in love 😍 "downfall" sounds interesting, though the issue with not being able to connect with an unemotional-seeming character might be a problem for me too-i'm also not forgiving of characters that cheat. anyway~ thanks for the revew, seji!
Its nice to hear that manga and anime are a big part of your life. It was for me too, though long ago I had to stop reading manga because one of my parents didn't like them for a certain reason. Whenever I can though I want to get back into it. Me watching anime hasn't changed thankfully. I'm really curious to find out what anime series you have watched and out of ALL the manga you've reviewed so far, if you have a favorite.
Oh I'm sorry about your parents! I'm glad anime hasn't changed for you though :) I don't that much anime anymore, because of all of the reading and the rest of my life, but my favourite is Attack on Titan. I started watching it back in 2014/2015 and I think I have watched season one a good four or five times hahah. I haven't reviewed that much manga on my channel, so for now I would have to say The Way of the Household man :) Looking forward to do another Taste Test soon :)
I rarely read Manga nowadays but funnily enough, just yesterday I read the first volume of おやすみプンプン which is a very odd one, but guess who the Mangaka is? What an odd coincidence. :D
I used to watch lots of Manga growing up but have never read a book. I'm definitely going to give it try. Do you have a recommendation for a first book?
I would recommend The Way of the Househusband! It's hilarious :) Basically this Yakuza leader, after marrying his wife, turns himself into a househusband and it's so incredibly funny :)
Back in March I dedicated a whole week to getting into manga, reading as many different ones as I could, and Downfall was one of the first I picked up. I loved the atmosphere and the art, but I struggled with the attempted rape and just overall how much the protagonist hated (and in many ways blamed) the women in his life.. I couldn't work out how self-aware the author was of the misogyny. Was he commenting on it, or was it just a part of his world view? I've since read Girl on the Shore and 5 volumes of Punpun now, and I feel sort of similarly about all of them! I really love the atmosphere and intensity of them, but they also leave me feeling rather uncomfortable. Great review! 'Claustrophobic' was a great way to describe it!
Oh yeah I can definitely see that -- it was really uncomfortable, but it did seem in coherence with the main character, looking at all the other stuff he did. What you said with regards to the author's view, I think it's the danger of writing work that stands so close to oneself -- because even if you believe in death of the author it's pretty hard not to wondering which things Asano took from his own life and which he didn't. I haven't seen it in his other work, but then again, I have only read the first volume of DDDDD and that one was so peculiar I didn't even know what to think XD
Do you know of any online sites where i can possibly get the ebook version of several manga? I would love to try to read some but i don't usually get physical copies of books
Asano not wanting to clarify if this manga is autobiographical could be that it kinda is, or maybe it is not at all but he wants the audience think it is.

@@TheArtisanGeek Oh, cool! I'll check out your review, and I'm going to get My Alcoholic Escape from Reality when it comes out.
Love the warm red lipstick with the blue dress!
And also: thank you for another lovely video 💛

Those drawings are gorgeous 😍
I maintain that this cover is pulling me in so much!
I really appreciate your review. I don't think this is the right book for me, but it's nice to know

I'm working through punpun right now, I don't think the writing style is for me but I'm too transfixed to quit 😭😭

I checked the Viz Media website and saw that you can get their titles via iBooks and Google Play amongst others :)
@@TheArtisanGeek lovely! I'll check them out!
Pls recommend jonji ito

Please. Please. Please. Read goodnight pun pun.
