I agree with everything you said! People say they want realistic gameplay but are getting 5 on ball steals every game. I don’t think I’ve even seen kawhi ever get 3 ON ball steals on a guard. They just want dribbling to be dead and mike wang also doesn’t like dribblers either….

Exactly, yet they claim they want “realism” but yet there’s a delay before I can burst out a move, or there’s certain animations that I’m locked into before I can do something else. Contradicting themselves it’s crazy

Koza raises another point about how defenders are impacting the game. He says that right now, they can easily pluck the ball out with just one button press or a flick of the right stick using the 'right stick ripper.' For example, when you use a dribble move like the Jamal Murray behind-the-back, where the ball extends far to one side, if the defender is shading you and you do the move into them, that should result in a steal. We're not saying defenders should always be able to press one button and get the ball, but when dribble moves overextend and the defender is in range, the ball should come out. Escape dribble moves, especially when they expose the ball, shouldn't be immune to being stolen if the defender is in the right position.
On the flip side, if the defender reaches and misses the steal, you should be able to capitalize on that mistake. One option could be to drive to the basket if a lane opens up, or if the defense collapses, you should have a chance to kick it out for a three-point shot. But what often happens is that players ignore these natural outcomes of a failed steal attempt. Instead, they act like they’re going to cut inside, then suddenly pull off a series of unrealistic dribble moves, and despite having no stamina left, still manage to make an impossible jump shot or dunk. This kind of gameplay just doesn’t make sense and breaks the flow of what should be a more realistic basketball experience.

Said this exact thing under that video brute posted. In 2k right now, 90% of the community can not dribble. If you can’t L2 cancel, or Murray btb L2 cancel, you will not score on me consistently. W/o those moves this year you will not score on a good defender consistently. With how they nerfed dribbling this year, depending on the dribble style your using it’s easy to predict moves
There’s a difference between not being able to dribble and the animations being useless. Most of the animations just aren’t useful in a competitive setting.

I go went through the animations myself this year, same as every year and lab them myself. I didn’t have to wait on a RUclipsr to drop a dribble tutorial to know that Murray was the best btb in the game. After season 1 I switched to Luka pull back and been using it ever since to be different. But some moves you literally have to use against better defenders to be effective. Anybody can cooks bums using any random moves.

As a guard who was forced to learn how to L2 cancel. I hate it. I only learned it to be elite :/ I hate glitchy moves. Idc how much room they make I'm just someone who wants things to look real. There are some times when I L2 cancel I swear the ball doesn't even touch the ground for 5 seconds it just Rubberbands back to my hands xD

I personally don't like the glitchy over-dribbling in the game; it doesn’t feel like real basketball. Unfortunately, the game is designed in a way that makes defending against it more difficult than it should be. For example, if someone is guarding you and taking away the three-point shot, you should be forced to drive to the basket. But if the defender cuts you off, your only realistic options should be to either pass the ball or go into the post for a shot, even if it’s a tough one. The problem is that players can just move left and right repeatedly, pull off unrealistic spins or moves, and somehow end up back at the three-point line for an open shot. It takes away from the authenticity of the game and is really frustrating. I’m all for creating your own shot, but it should be within the limits of realistic gameplay, not driven by glitchy mechanics.

I think everyones trippin. They do this or that and have slowly upgraded their game to where it is now. It takes a year to test how the community feels about anything new then they keep it. Befire strength didnt matter much in recent years its gotten better. The game was amazing last year. The changes seem nice this year. Support the game sometimes too instead of trying to manipulate devs all the time. If you cant play defense add more defense to your next build. Im trash at stealing the ball but i get steals with some builds. As for paint defense i dont wanna tell you the secret to that but ive stopped 7 footers with 6"2 guards sometimes with the strat i use
2k is always going to have core gameplay problems as long as the game keeps trying to blend simulation with arcade.

people who love to play park and pro am/the stage doesn’t want to see all of the simulation elements of basketball
i.e. waiting for an animation to finish playing out before being able to perform another move sluggish/unresponsive gameplay ect.
simulation players don’t want to see cheesy unguardable dribble animations being spammed all game that leads to easy buckets
But isn’t sim supposed to be realistic? If that’s the case being locked into an animation before it finishes isn’t realistic at all, or dribble burst being delayed.
@@Wickery. realistic meaning real basketball with real moves people can do IRL. I’ve never seen Jamal Murray do that btb in my life. Or John wall hop back 10ft into a stand still 3. Or Steph curry sprint one direction then L2 cancel the other way.
All these mythical moves make it too easy to get open for 3s. Add to that, off the dribble 3s are too easy to make. When 3s are that easy to generate, it makes everything else useless. SGA is one of the best scorers in the league, but even if you made a 6’6 midrange demon, you’d have to go almost perfect from the field cos the other teams pg will probably shoot 65% + from off the dribble 3s. Having the pg shoot an off the dribble 3 every possession isn’t basketball. You could have a prime Embiid build but instead of dominating in the paint, it’s more efficient to just set screens for the pg in 2k to get a 3.

How is this unrealistic movement a simulation of a real person dribbling on a basketball court?
Even without it looking anything like IRL basketball (the foundation of 2k) it puts the defense at a unfair advantage because the defender can’t instantly change his direction and close the gap between him and the ball handler when dribbling animations doesn’t have a realistic transition between them
2k24 doesn’t have a whole lot of moves that creates space for 3 point hunting if you’re an iso player, but you gotta understand that the animation is being taken from IRL nba footage with proplay
And that’s half the problem, we trying to play street ball with professional basketball (sim) animations
Outside of animations that we glitch ourselves, how many ProPlay animations are made for street basketball?
You see the disconnect? They’re trying to sell us a (mostly) nba simulation basketball game when most of its player base purchase the game for the park/the stage and the ones that plays 5v5 pro am plays meta 2k basketball not simulation
Like I was saying in my initial post, it’s water and oil until they create a game that caters (entirely) to one end of the spectrum only
we will continue to get this bad blend of arcade and sim that keeps the community beefing with each other over how the game should play

Basically you want to be able to spam moves until the defender makes a mistake even if it takes 15 seconds while not really covering much ground. That stuff has to be balanced and this is the balance use your one to two dribbles cook with that and then go sit down somewhere. I don’t think you really like basketball but that’s just my opinion.

The thing that I like is from 2k19 and 20 I couldnt dribble like i could only do simple stuff but I knew that if I learned how to dribble then that would make me a whole different player. I had people tried to teach me but I just couldn’t get so when 21 next gen came out I finally learned how to do different things and 22-23-24 they made it easier for people that don’t know how to dribble to learn how. I didn’t use all the moves everyone else used I used what worked for me because I’m not a cheese dribble I can’t do all that fancy stuff I’m simple but I know how to chain dribble moves together from just practice and understand what move does what and how I can make it affective for me that’s the only thing I love about 2k and what they been doing over the years it making it easier easier to learn how to dribble but everything else it’s a negative for me I hate
Bro If the right stick dribble animations didnt make me move as if im moving the left stick I think the dribbling would be better.The best years of dribbling was 17-20. Why is it so hard for them to continue with that dribbling system? Updates and improvements are not a problem but always changing the dribbling system cause people who cant do it, or cant guard it, but not asking the people who actually dribble, steezo, gman, coletheman etc is not how you update a dribbling system that involves more than the people who dont know what to do on offense and defense

It is if it requires being unrealistic you typically buy a sports game for the love of the sport and the point of a simulator is to simulate the real thing nobody in the world dribbles the way people dribble in 2k and it makes very bad players look good because they can learn to be unrealistic rather then understand actual basketball to be good from playing like a player should

The problem I think is that nobody actually wants to get better at the game though. Most of the meta that is abused by the players are things that have little to no counter play. The only reason people L2 cancel is because it allows you to change direction faster than any defender would ever be able to do especially if you pair it with a screener. People spammed Magic Johnson dribble style because it allowed them to explode in the opposite direction faster than any defense could shift or get a wide open shot if the defender did get in position to guard the Cross launch. People use the size up escapes because it eventually slides you infront of defenders regardless of what they do and you get an open shot. People are jabstepping and standing dunk spamming because it literally can’t be countered if done right 😂. 99% of the meta that the community finds every year is things that are exploits not intended to be in the game. Not speaking for you specifically but majority of the “comp” players I know or see aren’t interested in learning or implementing anything that requires them to actually make more advanced reads on their defender

Two things.
1. No one hates dribblers for being good. People hate dribblers because we have to sit there and watch you dribble for 15 seconds with no intention of passing the ball and only for you to score. No one wants to sit there and watch that.
If youre a dribbler and you make plays for your team then no one complains.
2. You repeatedly say you all adapt .. then stop complaining about it every year if you can adapt and still be the best. It literally makes no sense 😂
Would it not be easier to just take speedboosting out the game and make animations realistic Then make defense more realistic by determining crossovers on if the player guarding you actually attempts to go the opposite direction fixes both sides but this entire video was showing super unrealistic moves overly fast no cancel animation should be in the game for any dribble moves defeats the point of a animation and pick up animations need to drastically be increased for point guards because kyrie picks up essentially non existent which makes it worse that you play good defense for 20 seconds bumping the player and in the last second a good animation gets you scored on

2k19 and 2k16 was the most versatile in terms of dribbling people put different sigs on all the time. Also 2k17 it was so many different sigs that dribblers had a variety of styles to choose from, go watch a dribble mixtape from 2k16-19 you’ll see how difference compared to watching them from 2k20-24

nah with the crazy buff bumps from high strength and crazy RNG pluck animations, plus the offball speed being way faster than even the fastest guards, there has to be these animations in the game for guards. if defenders can't guard with all the shit y'all got this year, that's a skill issue. i'm frying Comp Locks regardless but yall be crying too much about not being able to stick onto guards lolol. y'all got it all, WHAT more could y'all want?

Ya'll all dribbled the same in the past 2k bro. it was momentum momentum, spin back, crossover between the legs, momentum moving behind the back. I all looked the same bro. it was just the game didn't allow defensive player to make contact with offensive player and yall took advantage of it. L2 cancel is the same exact thing. The crab dribble cheese is a broken animation that makes no logical sense but is a broken tech in the 2k. It look glitchy and awful but effective. Hopefully 2k25 it will have more realistic dribbling where the broken mechanics of the game doesn't bail out the ball handler. I hope not to see a clip like @00:32 where the double team is not even being acknowledge. That Is some straight bs. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have more effective dribble moves in the game but make it make sense.

You make a lot of good points but I disagree with your viewpoint on midrange and post scoring, it should be alot easier since 3 > 2 and if it was just as hard to score a 2 as it was a 3 a lot of peoples playstyle including mine would be eliminated like it was previously. Nobody took midranges floaters post moves last year and now we do.
the facts are that most people DO spam a few animations . he’s not wrong . and i get it , but there should be 10-15 ways to effectively dribble , so that we just aren’t seeing the same thing over and over .

In my opinion, they go about this wrong every year. If people want to dribble and that's fun for them, they should be able to. But defense has been so bad it's almost impossible to guard these "cheese" moves. Buff some defense and the real dribble heads will shine, and cheesers will fall.
Great vid. I agree with you mostly, except:
1. No one wants to take dribble animations out of the game. Everyone is saying they should include more effective animations.
2. Defending does take skill. If you only reach, you'll be out of position, so you do have to learn to defend, but they fixed this in 2k25 and now you have to body up and not just reach.
3. Everyone has been nerfed since 2k19.
4. Exploits make the game bad, no matter how hard they are. The L2 cancel has made speed with ball irrelevant. If I found a way to hit a full court shot consistently, it doesn't matter how hard it is, I shouldn't be able to do it.
5. No one in the NBA dribbles so close to a defender that they're hitting the defender's body and not losing the ball. That happens all the time in 2k and the dribbler doesn't lose the ball, even when the defender reaches.

The problem isn’t 2k nor is it the dribbling… the difference between 2019 and 2024 is now the defender isn’t just gonna sit there and let you dribble all day .. they gone put a body on ya … back in 2019 the sensitive to the analog stick made the defense continue to move
