- I use my Nikon Z 180-600mm F5.6-6.3 VR lens in conjunction with my Nikon Z7 to photographing nesting Kingfishers in this video. I've been really enjoying this Z 180-600mm! I love how close I can get to the action now when photographing birds and wildlife. I think Nikon really hit a home run with this lens. Budget friendly and top image quality.

I haven't seen that in ages 😂
It's refreshing to see reviews of this lens that focus on practical use instead of just technical specifications. Your insights on using the lens for fieldwork are great. I'm new to wildlife photography and just got this lens a week ago. It's proving to be more challenging than I expected, but I find that exciting. Thanks for your great videos and for maintaining such a helpful RUclips channel!
You got some great shots of the King Fishers. As always, nice video.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great weekend cheers 🙏
Man! You are a true photographer 😊 you share your experience, emotions, perceptions about the moment you are in. You share your viewing process through the camera in a nice time frame with some humor as well. I love to see your outings in Australia 😊 thanks for sharing! Great job!
Thank you very much for watching and I really appreciate your kind comment. Have a great day 🙏📸
Yay for the kingfishers! And the little surprise birds too. Thanks for sharing Adrian. I always enjoy seeing what you capture bird wise.
Thanks Denise. Always out having fun, especially with this lens. Enjoy your weekend 🙏
Wonderful range of birds, Adrian.
Thank you for watching. Much appreciated 🙏
Fantastic.
Thank you for watching 🙏
Brilliant video Adrian, your beautiful King Fishers look so much more stocker than the ones we have in the uk. Your bird images are stunning 👌 I would definitely invest in a pair of chain link trousers if I were out in the long grass in Australia mate 😂 Thanks for sharing 👍 Cheers, Cliff
Thank you for watching Cliff. Ticks are another concern here too in that grass. I normally bypass all that and stay clear. Have a great week mate cheers 🍻 🙏
Another great video Adrian of the Kingfishers, I remembering watching these guys in the UK. Amazing site to catch them close up and great watching them on your video. Nice work in slow motion. Glad you're playing it safe not going in the long grass, just in case of snakes! Many thanks for sharing your work and have a great weekend
Yeah those snakes here are pretty deadly, I don't mess with them. But the smaller snakes are food for the Kingfishers hence why they were out in force. Have a great weekend mate and thanks heaps for watching 🙏
Well done! King fishers are hard to get !
Awesome shots man! Great vid.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Excellent !
Thanks heaps for watching. Enjoy your weekend 🙏
Nice work, Adrian! This was a very enjoyable video!
Glad you enjoyed it Phil, thanks for watching 🙏
Love shots and video Adrian, I was thinking how lucky you are with the bird species you have out there until you mentioned the deadly snakes you would have to avoid walking through a bit of long grass. 😂 Especially as I spent the day falling in bog and bracken on the moors, funily enough never thought about a snake once mate!!😂😂👍👍
That’s one thing I have learned and come to respect Scott. Don’t mess with snakes here. We did see one while filming this but it was a Carpet Python which are harmless. Black and Brown snakes you run the other way 😂 Thanks for watching mate have a great weekend 🙏
What a beautiful video. Really loved how you put that together. Both the shots & the video of the Kingfishers were amazing. Love how they do a backward double twist to jump out sometimes! Amazing lens, fabulous photography, a real pleasure to watch.
Thanks for watching. It was a great day out albeit a tad hot. Love those little Kingfishers. Have a great weekend 🙏📸
Great compilation of footage & stills. Those kingfishers are so vibrantly coloured, love it! Loved the other species too, that oriole is so beautiful too! Nice job mate, thanks for sharing!☺️
Thanks Peter. I got lucky that day. Since then they have not been near that nest. Have a great weekend mate cheers 🍻 🙏
Great video Adrian! Some really stunning stills of the King Fishers. What a beautiful little bird! The in-flight image at 3:40 was an absolute beauty! As much as I loved the stills in this one's I was particularly impressed with the slo-mo video - beautiful footage! Glad you didn't run into any brown snakes! I saw one crawl down Steve Irwin's shirt once and you could see the blood drain from his face in terror- only time I ever saw him scared. That olive back Oriole was a stunner as well! Great video as always mate! Hope you have a great week down there!
Thanks Paul. Yeah the snakes (in this area anyway) are pretty deadly. At this time of year I’ve always got one eye on the ground and the other in the viewfinder. Glad you enjoyed the vid mate. They are funny those little Kingfishers. Hope you have a great week, cheers 🍻 🙏
Those king fishers were BUSY! I love how they look so different from the king fishers we have here. I need to come down to your part of the world at some point and photograph some of these critters.
Then even you find a new species!!! 😂🤷🏻♂️📸 The Z7 has the magic in your hands!!!
Thanks for taking along!!!
Thanks for watching David. You're always welcome down under to take photos of the different birds and wildlife here. We have a tonne. Have a great weekend buddy, cheers 🙏
A plethora of great slow mo captures Beauty of a lens..
A plethora of thanks for watching my friend, I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend
Hi Adrian, you got some fantastic shots, buddy! I like that one at ~09:29 most. Awesome "pose" and such a vibrant backdrop.
The birds you have in your area are absolutely amazing. I'm a bit jealous, I have to say 🙂
Enjoy your weekend,
Christian
Thanks for watching Christian. We had a little rain yesterday so the birds were out in force today while I was there. I was testing and reviewing another lens for next weeks video. Have a great weekend buddy, cheers 🙏
Some really cool footage and images Adrian, love the Kingfishers again and the Oriole was pretty sweet, loving that lens too. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for taking the time to watch John. I had a lot of fun filming this video. Have an awesome weekend mate cheers 🍻 🙏
Love the video, kingfishers still on my bucket list. I also own this lens, but with my Z6ii it's very hard to get flying birds in focus. I'm looking now for the Z8 and want to trade in my D850 and Z6ii. The downside, I always use my D850 for landscapes and gives me beautiful shots.
If you can swing it, try keep your D850 for landscapes. I know so many people that regret selling their cameras. The Z8 is now slowly coming down in price here. I maybe tempted soon but still would like to see a APSC come out first with fast frame rate and bird AF. Be a lot cheaper. Have a great weekend cheers 🙏
@@adrianalfordphotography Thanks for advice and have a great weekend too.
Hi Adrian, new to your channel and really enjoy your videos I have just got this lens and love it only using it on a z6 at the moment but is great for anything other than fast birds like you waiting for a d500 mirrorless version if it happens kingfishers still on my wish list great job cheers John
Thanks for watching - glad you’re enjoying the channel content. Yes, bring on that mirrorless D500 APSC - hopefully soon 🙏
Randy Bocksnick(Mont) You have a easy listening voice, Adrian! Wonderful video and your photos with your new 180-600mm on your Z7 are awesome! How did you get your 180-600 so soon? I have my order in for 3 plus months and still waiting! I got a new Z8 to use on my 180-600! Can't wait! Take care Adrian..
Thanks for watching. I pre-ordered the lens within minutes of being announced. I got the first run in Australia. Lucky I guess.
love this video, lovely Kingfishers. do you mind telling me where is this location and I can add to my visit list. thank you.
Thanks for watching Ambrose I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend mate. The Kingfishers have gone from this location now until next year. I will be running workshops here then, if you are interested 🙏
please keep me posted with your workshop. i also saw this olive-backed Oriole today at the wetlands down the south side@@adrianalfordphotography
May I ask at what shutter speed are you shooting the video scenes? Do you use ND filter for video?
1/100 for slo mo video and I only use this filter now - ruclips.net/video/oyq4Brw02r4/видео.htmlsi=EAaoaoL3uGFYRpSq
I perfectly understand why you've got a hope for Nikon to come out with a Z500 as a replacement for the wonderful D500. Having said that, and as a former owner of the Z7ii (which I traded for a Z9, and a D850 which I traded for a Z8, I'm curious what you think might be better about a Z500 as opposed to a Z8 shot in DX mode? I shoot landscapes often, but the bulk of my photos are in dog conformation shows here in the States, so wildlife is something I enjoy, but only do occasionally. The movement shots of dogs are so much better with the Z8 with regards to autofocus, fps, and quiet than the D850 and autofocus and fps than the Z7ii, that I'd be interested in your perspective. I shot lots of wonderful images with both the Z7ii and D850, but I do enjoy using the Z8 more. I certainly enjoy your videos, I check for updates regularly.
It has nothing to do with if the APSC is better. It’s about price. The Z8 is expensive here in Australia. Whereas if Nikon make a camera to match Canon R7 or Sony A6700 in price and focusing that’s what everyone is waiting for.
I get it. I was able to shoot some wonderful movement images with both a Z6ii and Z7ii, so I understand they can both produce very good results. Personally, I think it may be more likely to get a Z6iii or Z7iii with some of the goodness of the Z8 at 60 to 75% of the Z8 price, than to get a Z500 at 50% of the Z8 price. I have several friends who hope that I'm wrong and that a Z500 at $2000 U.S. will show up in the next calendar year. @@adrianalfordphotography
Snake season? Yikes. No thanks.
Yeah I know what you mean, I can't stand snakes. But the birds do like to eat the smaller ones which is why they were out in force. Double edge sword really, you have to take the good with the bad in wildlife photography I guess. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 🙏
@@adrianalfordphotography Thanks Adrian. Your channel is great.
