- Today I am taking a look at the impressive Riden RD6018-W power supply kindly sent over for review by Banggood! This thing looks great but is even better than it looks - it can output over 1000w (but I could not test it on this video because my AC to DC converter isn't capable of it) and output 60v and 18 amps. In this video I got to put it thru its paces, and color me impressed. I also checked the accuracy against a Kaiweets HT118A which, in my independent testing was nearly perfect. Keypad entry, fast screen updating, and no beeping would be ideal power supply features. I might have to keep it in mind for future workbench expansion!
I can be quite frugal at times (ahem) but now that I have this thing in my hands - I wonder if I would have spend all that money on my other solutions

4:07 The fuses included in the ziplock bag are only for testing in the event of a module failure.
They cannot be used as a replacement for those that are soldered in because the ones in the socket do not have proper heat dissipation and can cook in there.
If I recall correctly (I have the 6012W but it's not with me at the moment), if you want to set a voltage or current that's a whole number, you can just press 1, 2, Enter (for example). It just makes it a little quicker and easier.
Oh freaking sweet! I just tried it and it works! Thank you! I've been toying with this unit for a bit and I haven't found anything particularly annoying about it, so I'm quite happy so far - do you dislike anything about yours?
@@SimpleElectronics To be honest, I've not used mine a massive amount (my work bench is a little "cluttered" at the moment). I bought the module, case and PSU separately as it was cheaper but the most annoying thing is that the fan in the PSU runs constantly. :-( I really need to mod it so it's temperature controlled. Apart from that it's brilliant and amazing value for money. As much as I want the 6018W now, 12A should suffice!

Please can explain me about this power supply for mobile servicing. Is it suitable for mobile servicing shop?
I wonder if a used server PSU could be modified to output a higher voltage. They are capable of huge current at 12V. They are pretty cheap on ebay. Or build a 12V to 60V boost converter
That would be interesting, I'm sure someone smarter than me could modify the regulation point! I would try if I had one but they are quite pricy for something that I could potentially brick!

What is the esp communication used?
OK, I found out it communicates over serial at 115200 baud,
so all I need to know is what commands it uses....
I need to reverse engineer the command set...
I want to link it to a MySQL and control it from many miles away...
These types of power supplys output very dirty power compared to purely analog ones but they are so nice to use I overlook that

Very sweet little power supply. I'm with you...the beeping has to go. I really do love the keypad for entering values. I think that's the way to go over the knobs.

@13:57 you input 500v instead of 5v. I just got mine today and tried the same thing. you just needed to press 5 and enter.

Is this available with a case, or are you just expected to roll your own? It's a little odd to just have a front panel like this.

If i bought this, i would make a case my self using ply wood and/or metal that i already have spare just for the front buck module and have the 60V mains PSU under the bench. That way, i can save space on the bench and save money.
Im not paying £18+ for that case when i already have all the parts already. Thats too expensive.
@@simontay4851 I find that a lot of the fun is hacking (for lack of a better term) together the final gadget that I personally want out of these electronics.

It would be the last power supply you ever bought. Just keep in mind you need an ac-dc converter as well!

That is a realy nice power supply. One question though, why would you need WIFI on a power supply ?

Yes inexpensive but if you want the rest: case and power supply it will cost you three time the price for the panel!
It isn't that bad considering you can power it from a relatively low cost 12v power supply or a computer power supply if you don't need more than 11.5v and anyway, quality costs money - this isn't a low quality unit!
Agreed, might as well buy a decent power supply instead of having to jury rig things. Also, you only get a 30 day warranty.. lol

Is this isolated from mains? Plan to get one with a new oscilloscope.
As long as your ac/DC converter is isolated from mains, this unit will be too
They are not that good mate. Mind easily blown when given freebies methinks. These units are:
noisy on the output line
noisy fan
terrible cooling design (so noisy fan kicks in too often)
awkward on/off switch (at the rear of the long case)
uses too much power in standby mode
doesn't come with the beefy power lead required if running from 120vac
cannot output 1000W in the US unless mods made
use el cheapo caps in the DC line
use under spec'd caps if running from 240vac
So yeah, great power supply if Banggood send me one. Then I'll get on here and delete this message.

Been using it daily since I got it an experienced no problems at all with it. Maybe you're using it wrong
