thanks Dave, I have no clue on trapping, and don't plan on trapping ever (except snaring, maybe) I always thought those leg hold traps snapped shut on the leg of the animal causing pain, that always turned me off. thanks for all the video's you give us.
Dave- I'm an avid outdoorsman but have always been against these types of traps until now. I appreciate your actions as a responsible outdoorsman. This morning I would have said NO-Way to foot-traps, but you have completely changed my perspective.
I love that Dave, even after getting famous on TV still takes the time to talk with his fans. Although, I must say that the window of opportunity to get a comment back from him has gotten a lot smaller. Then again, back when he had his 'learn together' videos, there wasn't 8k views in 10 minutes. I'll always support Dave and his website because he's done a lot and asked for little. Consider that before you buy on Amazon. Where would you rather see your dollar go?
I hope you show a dirt hole set...one of the best sets I've ever used. I was lucky...I had world famous Herb Lange teach me how to trap. Ok...maybe not world famous, but this man knows how to trap and I take lessons daily at my local retirement community. I like how you explain the components! Herb made the cover of one of the trapping mags.
Wow, you say thank you for "our" contribution to your family and business but I'm here to tell you that it's "we" that want to thank you. What you do is tough work, hell i run a trap line so I know, but dammit if you don't get to the nitty gritty without missing a thing. Dave you are exceptional at communicating the details of why, how and when to use traps. I bet someone watches this series would have success on their first trapline. Thank you.
hey dave, I think the rope loop method for setting conibears and even longpring traps would be a good topic to touch on in a future video. I've used it on many traps and in my experience(not much, but some), it's a great method and economical, you just need some strong cord, like paracord. also, adding the replacement safety hooks for conibears works great for longspring traps too, makes it much safer. you just depress each spring separately and safety hook it, just like a big conibear.
I know they won't break a finger but I had one snap me on the edge of my little finger on a nice frosty winter morning before. I must admit there was a few words coming out of my mouth. I also grew up in south east ohio and am 3rd generation trapper or at least was at one time. (Poor family needed money)Been years but your videos are very helpful and remind me of things I forgot.
Good stuff Dave, lots of good self reliance info. Looking forward to the rest of the vids in this series. You keep on opening up the possibilities for me , thanks.
Very well thought out and presented vid Dave. Also, I am appreciative of the fact you pointed out the responsibility that comes from trapping and that the animals and the public deserve individuals who are educated and use the proper gear for their targeted quarry.
Excellent video dave! If anyone says trapping is inhumane.. ill be sure to lead them to this video. Putting your own hand in the trap really shows how humane they are
Great video Dave, showed people that leg holds are very humane way of trapping animals. What people don't know is that studies show that animals don't struggle the whole time they are in leg holds and that they usually damage their claws and teeth when caught in live/cage traps.
Since i watched daves vids i tossed out my snares (never had much luck with them) and instead i pack 4 Vector Rat Traps and a jar of creamy peanut butter squirrels love it, never caught a rabbit in them but im sure if i stuck one on a path with some kind of rabbit food maybe a flower or something might get lucky
Thanks for posting. This video changed some of opinions I had about traps and trappers. I'm all in for respecting our wildlife in this great country and I can tell you are to. I wish more trappers shared your respect for nature.
Dave, thanks for doing this and other videos. I guess you can say I wasn't using my traps to the max effectiveness, but now I have a greater understanding. Thanks Again!
Dave can you speak on the animal and how they react when you go back to the trap to check them. How did you let the animals go? Were they feisty or just glad to be let go?
Hey dave. i was just wondering how you put on those fur silencers on your bows. Would be great if you could help me out with this, seeing i just got myself a new recurve bow.
I liked Dual Survival, but I love the Pathfinder videos and have learned a lot from them. Its nice to see that a lot of like minded people meet here on a daily basis. Keep up the good work Dave. When are you going to give an interview to Backwoodsman magazine?
This is something I need to get more familiar with. Once SHTF I'll be able to save my ammo for the horde of unprepared people, "zombies", coming out of the cities. If you had to feed a dozen people, and didn't want to slaughter your livestock prematurely, how many of these type traps would you recommend setting out per day to ensure meat to go with garden staples?
Dave thanks for sharing I have never trapped. this helps. I bought 2 110 conebears for squirrel to help sustainamce living. I have watched all your videos and have some dirt time need much more. TThanks for your information/
I prefer a cage trap, it makes releasing easier if I catch something unintended, plus I don't want to accidentally hurt any of the neighbors pets or kids. That's just my area though. Very good video, with a lot of good information.
MBJR-13145p1. Dave, I don't have any experience at trapping, yet; but, for (long-term) survival, would you prefer a Conibear to this sort of trap. I think I recall that you prefer a Conibear to Snaring, for reliability. These seem weightier, are thy more reliable, or simply an alternate option?
Thanks Dave but that does not surprise me that you catch game in snares... You excel at everything in the woods. I was asking the common guy.... I look forward to the snaring videos. In your opinion for the average guy is steel traps a better choice? Thanks for the reply. Mark
Would you recommend a foothold trap on a hole under a fence where coyotes are coming through? I'm having trouble with snares and coyotes that have become smart to the snares and moving them over or out of the way but I have not used conibear or foothold traps until this week. Thanks.
I was looking at traps the last time I was at Bass Pro, they have traps by Duke, double spring and single, They range from 10-20 bucks. Do you know if those are any good or should I keep looking?
i know nothing about trapping so don't snap at me (pun intended) but those are smaller traps and easily burred. is it common practice to place those close to where an underground lure is to promote a catch while they are trying to dig with their paw to get to at the lure? or are these used mainly on the approach to the area where you have the lure.
I once saw an absolutely huge foothold trap at a fleemarket .it must have been 3 feet long and the jaws had nonshap spikes. I was just wondering if that's was normal or illegal? It was just crazy looking
Hey Dave wanted to know if Ohio has the same law that Nevada has for trapping that your traps cannot close completely to avoid catching birds of prey? Also what is your preferred method of dispatching the animals you catch? I've always been taught to use CB caps but I've been looking for something better
awesome video dave i enjoy watching them keep them coming one day i hope to get into trapping i will retain what i learned here and on the next ones you post!
Haha Okay thanks Dave, I am going to get into Coyote Hunting and trapping this year. I also live in Ohio, Northeast area by Lake Erie. Love your videos brother, keep up all the great work. Jeremy
Mr. Dave, I teach survival in a special operations group with a AFJROTC corps at my high school. I have taken your basic online courses 1 and 2, and I love and preach your ideology anytime I get a chance. My instructor and I are designing a course for trapping this year. Are there any major points or additions to the basic principles outlined in your trap trigger theory videos which could help me more effectively convey the idea of adapting a few simple trigger systems to multiple enviroments?
hey dave i watched a ton of your videos and i love them, i am a trapper here in utah and i was wondering if you are going to make another trapping series next season?.. jax
I've been trapping since I was a small child. This is the tip of a very large iceberg...pay attention and you'll learn something that is dying a little every day.
@jazzelhazzel a coyotes not going to smell trap and catch his nose especially if he knows a strange smell is there. If anything youll catch him in the foot going for the bait. I suggest boiling youre traps in parafin wax water
Most people are used to seeing those large bear traps with the jagged teeth that u see in the movies and cartoons, that said if everyone actually saw the horrific conditions that animals go through before they reach the meat section at walmart I assure u macdonalds would go out of business in a few days
Great video im really enjoying this entire series and i agree with you 100% on the humane ways to kill an animal. i was also wondering, what do you keep under the tarp in the back round firewood? and is there any wilderness survival college because you talked about a trapers college is that really a college because thats pretty cool
Question On Inhumane Trapping: I'm interested in trapping skills but this is important to me. -How do you avoid hitting the wrong target animal; say you're trapping for small game and a coyote comes sniffing the bait, now gets a shaved nose that he can no longer sniff with or gets infected and kills him in a few weeks? Thanks Dave love your stuff.
same here cant play video, says embedding video disabled by request, whatever that means, will try again later, tried 3 times, all other videos work fine, its youtube once again!
thanks Dave, I have no clue on trapping, and don't plan on trapping ever (except snaring, maybe) I always thought those leg hold traps snapped shut on the leg of the animal causing pain, that always turned me off. thanks for all the video's you give us.

Learned a trick that I did not know before setting traps. Foot hold traps are the traps I like the best.
I love that Dave, even after getting famous on TV still takes the time to talk with his fans. Thanks for clarifying and discussing the humane aspects.

Totally agree with you man on the trapping humane/inhumane debate
Dave thanks for all the videos my 9 yr old son and I really enjoy watching them.
I very much appreciate this trapping series. Thank you Dave.
Dave my wife found me a new house on 10 acres and its middle national forest Missouri going to love doing my bushcraft thanks for teaching so much

you rock dave, keep em commin, thanks for the valuable education that my generation has lost sight of.

You can twist a single wire snare around a branch or something, but how do you attach a thicker cable or Thomson snare to an object? Just wondering.
I prefer a cage trap, it makes releasing easier if I catch something unintended, plus I don't want to accidentally hurt any of the neighbors pets or kids. That's just my area though. Very good video, with a lot of good information.

Thanks Dave! I have a few traps and plan to get more and develop some trapping skills!
Very informative...and the pictures really show how effective those are at just holding the animal.
Thanks Dave but that does not surprise me that you catch game in snares...
You excel at everything in the woods. I was asking the common guy.... I look forward to the snaring videos. In your opinion for the average guy is steel traps a better choice? Thanks for the reply.

Very cool Dave! I would've never known you could stick your hand in a trap like that!!
Great job explaining what was a complete mystery to me. Thanks for all you do.
Would you recommend a foothold trap on a hole under a fence where coyotes are coming through? I'm having trouble with snares and coyotes that have become smart to the snares and moving them over or out of the way but I have not used conibear or foothold traps until this week. Thanks.
Love this video Dave, it really showed how humane trapping can be if done right.
need a video on Ticks, chiggers, ect, and how to avoid and or fix with wilderness meds
Great Video as always Dave. I look forward to the rest of this and a few other series that you are doing. God Bless you and your Family.
I was looking at traps the last time I was at Bass Pro, they have traps by Duke, double spring and single, They range from 10-20 bucks. Do you know if those are any good or should I keep looking?
Looking forward to upcoming videos. As a greenhorn to trapping, please show us all to right way todispatch what we have caught. Keep on keeping on!

love the trapping videos, always helpful. nothing like a trap working for you when your asleep or out doing other things
Dave if my trap jaws shut all the way is it a bad trap to use.
I once saw an absolutely huge foothold trap at a fleemarket .it must have been 3 feet long and the jaws had nonshap spikes. I was just wondering if that's was normal or illegal? It was just crazy looking
I am going to trap for the first time this year and what I want ti know is what's a good all around bate for fox and yotes?
Man that possum looked calm with you right next to it. Great video!
So what did you do with the animals you caught? did you let em go or eat em or what?
Can't play video Dave.....unsupported video format! Can play all others except this one...possible to reload?
Hey Dave wanted to know if Ohio has the same law that Nevada has for trapping that your traps cannot close completely to avoid catching birds of prey? Dave, for some reason I keep getting the " Embedding disabled by request" message. I don't get it from any other vids of yours... Any ideas?
When will there be a pathfinder gun?
Please sell value priced traps on your site. I see conibears but I'd like to see your preferences in other types too.
Dave, thinking about starting to trap. How do you suggest I go about staring?
Nice Video Dave. How much do these types of traps cost?
Great video Dave.. very interesting.
I hope you cover how to get the animal out of the trap without getting bit.
What about skunks? =(
Can you add a night latch to the 11 longspring you show here?
Since I live in an urban area, I'm not likely to attempt trapping anytime soon. But just in case... I'm learning lots with this series.
what is the intro song it wasnt in the description.
did you guys let the animals go or did you kill them ?
what is the song at the beginning of this video??
That was very informative. Thx for posting Dave
you gotta find ideal spots to place snares and try to narrow the path so as to direct said animal towards your snare

yes! part 4 is probably the best one
I was just about to comment that if it was humane you should put your hand in it, much respect for that Dave
Dave,
Thank you my friend...
Mark

great video dave! love the traping vids!!
Thank you Dave
