My favourite band line up - Kenny, John Bennett, Dave Jones, Ron Bowden, Ron Weatherburn, Vic Pitt and Paddy Lightfoot. What a fantastic noise they made...
I don't think that John Bennett, the trombonist, gets enough credit for his part in the KB success story - a superb player. He was with KB right from the start. Mark you, they clearly enjoyed drinking together after the event!
The American masters, Crosby & Hope, covered Chicago Style , which I have always liked, but I must admit that Ball's band absolutely kills it here. Now THAT is music, folks!!!! Now i'm off to shop for music by this marvelous band!
grew up listening to Kenny Ball ,Acker Bilk Chris Barber ,Alex Welsh,The Temperance Seven and many other bands from the Trad Boom still my favourite music
Sad news that Vic Pitt, bass player, passed away recently. Great musician and great man to have known as a friend for many years. We also lost his brother, Tony, who also played in Kenny's band earlier in the year...... R.I.P. both... from Syd..
Za Kenny Ball i negovite sorabotnici nema sto da se kaze osven deks bea vo vrvot na britanskiot tradicionallen jazz. I denes gi slusam so golemo zadovolstvo. Moja blagodarnost za Kenny Ball i You Tube sto mi dadoa moznost odnovo da go slusam.
I fell in love with this music thanks to Tony Robinson and his then Fiancee Barbara with the Sutton Chicago Jazz Band in 1959. Imagine my delight when I took up the clarinet 50 years later in the antipodes and I discovered they are now the Chicago Jazz Aces of Highcliffe Dorset. I still love Chicago style. Thank you all players.
I just started practicing the second piece in this video, since there's no title attributed to it, I was a bit lost as to what to call it. Well I just found a copy of Pete Fountain biography (signed by him too!) and in the first few pages he talks about a Bob Crosby record, March of the Bobcats. I pulled it up on youtube and there is it! Just in case anybody else was curious.
The second tune goes by at least two other titles: Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum and Maryland, My Maryland. See Kid Ory's version of it: ruclips.net/video/-RoczMrOWdI/видео.html
Cerrainly not a tenor banjo, nor tenor bjo tuning. Plectrum banjo, but I cannot be sure what tuning he is using. Possibly guitar? Good player anyway, somewhat underated. Remember hearing him with this band, and others.
That must've been recent, in both cases? Because I looked at the site within nore more than 6 months, and no word. Anyway, my condolences to you, and to the family of John.
I think Vic Pitt is the only surviving original band member left. I can’t get any information on Paddy Lightfoot although Terry his brother has passed. Vic was a teenager when I first met him. Condolences to all concerned. 🌠
Never see before today, it's -for me as Kenny Ball fan- wery great to see the original band play and sing "live", particularly the "young" Vic Pitt on string bass. Thanks for upload. Best wishes from France. JO LUTTRINGER, close friend of Pat Halcox, Chris Barber...and "collègue" of Vic Pitt.
Let's see. That's Kenny and John Bennett, obviously. Andy Cooper isn't there yet, the clarinetist is Dave Jones, so it has to be before 1967. Vic Pitt is on the bass so it's after 1959. The pianoman is Ron Weatherburn, but he didn't leave until 1969 so that doesn't tell us anything. Going out on a bit of a limb, I'd say some time after 1963, the year they starred in Live It Up!, because the hairdos are less "pompadour".
Dusan Stojanovski

Gotta be the great Davy Jones, alas also no longer with us - he died at a young age of 67 in 2000. This band of Ball's in the 60's+ was the best! Wot a lineup!

Chris Barber has already forgotten more about hot heritage Jass than you will ever know!! Promote who think is great but leave everyone else to their music!!

Kenny Ball - trumpet, who were the rest? When did Andy Cooper join the band?
@@joelfrombethlehem If I remember rightly Dave Jones left in 1966/7 and was replaced by Andy.
What a professional polished performance, never ever ever heard better.
I totally agree! I can listen to KB band all day long!
I don't think that John Bennett, the trombonist, gets enough credit for his part in the KB success story - a superb player. He was with KB right from the start. Mark you, they clearly enjoyed drinking together after the event!
Couldn´t agree more !! I am a trombone player and I consider John Bennet´s playing simply brilliant.! Never got the credit he deserved.
And he was there close to the end. They all enjoyed a tipple.

So love Kenny and the boys. You could feel so miserable but this music always cheers you up!
This is the original Band. Great to see. Brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing. 😀
子供のころ聴いてたのにいま聴いても褪せないサウンド!(^-^)
Great music by real musicians, dressed in suits, ties and shiny shoes....from another time but awesome.

Legendary band, part trad jazz, part "knees up mother brown"...a powerful combination!
Great band. Sadly Kenny and John have now passed :(( Ah but those were the days to be sure
Loved Ron Bowden's drumming, early influence for me!
Thankyou Tim
Excellent stuff. Whack some more up if you have any. Much love.
These guys were great....still are. Miss them in the present un-musical age

A great happy song and great fun to watch. The instrumental tune has such a great sound. Such an exciting entertaining band
Great to see Paddy Lightfoot on tenor banjo, also a foundation member and brother to Terry Lightfoot another great Jazzman.

Paddy is still around, hopefully a while yet.
@@jerrysoundie3952 He is a rather more accomplished musician than he is credited with being, plus a very nice and intelligent person.

Great stuff.
Yah!
What was the name of the song after WPMCS - was it "Red Flag"?
Can't find this track on any Kenny Ball CD. Does anybody know if it is?
Great and what's the title of the send part of the set does anyone know?
Someone up-thread said that is “March of the Bobcats”.
My grand love

Tuba Skinny Who Are They
Very good US trad jazz band led by superb female cornet player, Shane Cohn.
CHRIS Barber take note the Ball band were the best they really knew how to swing they didn't play the same old tunes for, 50 years like you
