The jump in gameplay mechanics from this to sf2 is beyond breathtaking. Its hard to say which is the GOAT between sf1 & sf2, its definitely one of the two.

To Be Honest I Don’t Actually Hate Street Fighter 1 I Think It’s Actually Pretty Good And I Love How The Special Moves Can Be OP When Used Against Your Opponents Especially The Shoryuken It Takes The Opponent's Energy In A Instant And The Bonus Stages Are Fun You Can Karate Chop The Tiles And Blocks And The Other Bonus Stage Is Break All The Wood And I Love How You Can Choose A Country From The Start You Can Only Choose Two Countries And Depending On The Dip Switches You Can Choose Four Countries And You Can Also Play As Ken But You Need A Second Player To Play As Ken And Also Gen Birdie Adon Eagle Retsu And Sagat Do Return In Later Street Fighter Games While Retsu Makes A Cameo In Street Fighter 6 World Tour Mode Just Love Street Fighter 1 For Bringing In Special Moves And The Recognizable Characters Ryu Ken And Sagat And I Played Street Fighter 1 More Times Than Many People So Please Street Fighter 1 Haters Please Respect Street Fighter 1 For Bringing These Iconic Characters Ryu Ken And Sagat And The Awesome Special Moves And I Love Both The Arcade Soundtrack And The PC Engine CD Soundtrack They're Are So Awesome
For 1987 it actually did many good things, like having a pretty good soundtrack (except Sagat's theme, never give me that again) and pretty good stages, but the combat was just not good even back then.

For real, Capcom should release an updated version of this game before releasing SF7. Call it Street Fighter 1. Keep the overall look of the game the same for that retro feel but update tue game mechanics to modern times. Make all the characters playable with updated moves and combos. Bring in younger versions of characters from other SF games and include new characters never before seen in other SF games to bolster the roster. I think that would be fun to play.
