For those speaking on the "huge increase in quality" for SF2, you gotta realize SF1 came out in 1987 and SF2 came out in 1991. This is a solid game for 1987. At the time, people were playing games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and RBI Baseball. Contra hadn't even come out yet for consoles. Hell, a lot of kids were still playing Atari at the time because the NES didn't really make it into most homes until 88-89. By 1991, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and NEO GEO were already out and the tech had vastly improved.
Oh, how I used to love this game as kid when I was growing up, hooking school and going to the arcades or hanging out at the pizza shops to play it. And the graphics, the colors and the quality of the artwork and music and sounds (although the voice wasn't that impressive for its time) and yes even the gameplay were incredible for their time. And believe it or not, people could actually get consistent fireballs, uppercuts and windmill kicks out in the arcades at the time.
While these are valid points but they hardly touch upon the factual position of SF2 being a huge improvement in every way. I don't think any other game sequel can come close to this.

Eagle is in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper and Geki is very recurring in lore/endings/backgrounds
Mike was not forgotten. Mike is Boxer. In Japan, he became M. Bison (Mike Bison, a very thinly veiled reference to Mike Tyson). The US version had a three-way name swap, so he became Balrog.
HaxorViper Eagle also appeared in Capcom vs SNK 2.
Andrey Luiz Eagle was in Alpha 3.
Woah, this is WAY different.
Also, Ryu's a redhead!
he was in alpha as well (a bit on a browner side), i guess since alpha is supposed to happen between sf1 and sf2!
Wow, constantly being told that there will always be out there to get you feels eerie...cool:)
good generation, I was 12 years old, time passed quickly, and my son and I still play it.
Nobody remembers the original Street Fighter. Street Fighter 2 is what made it what it is today.
Tell me you're a millennial without telling me you're a millennial.
@@mime3761 lol im a millenial and i remember this game. was one of my favorites
Nawl, 🫵🏻YOU, just don't remeber it rookie. I will never forget it. Unlike you
As a kid I always wondered how was there a two but no one. Nobody could answer that question for me at the time.
Ryu looks and sounds the best in this game because he's represent his japanese heritage unlike the later games where ge looks more like a white boy , smhh
I dunno he seems very Japanese in color
as a white boy i totally agree. The new streetfighter he has a thick beard and has pale skin. They should have kept his japanese heritage more alive in the latest game
'The intro guy, punches wall, walks off "ok my work is done.
Happy 35th Anniversary to Street Fighter I!
A my the only one that knows that the hadoken in 1987 was named dragon fire, the tatsumaki senpariukan dragon kick and the shoryuken dragon punch?
Food for thought, alot of you are shitting on the game your parents and grandparents played, but within the next 30 years gaming will improve expedientially and the kids of that generation will talk shit about Street Fighter 6. Give props to the OG, an entire genre began with this game.
Joe was beating his Assets lol
"Round 1................MICHAEL!"
Why does it say Michael hahaha!
i have only saw this at the arcades in a few places. In fact, i havent seen it after SF2 was released. And i always wondered what did SF1 looks like.
Sagat and ryu are the only people who made it to the next games
Ken is also in this game, you can play with him as player 2. Birdie, Eagle, Adon and Gen have also returned in the SF Alpha games. Geki dies in the storyline but his successor Geki II appears in SF5
Remember playing this in the arcade and not knowing any moves lol. Then stumbling upon one spending a week trying to recreate it lol
The voices in this just make me laugh. I know it was way ahead of it's time, but the voices the characters make are too hilarious. 🤣
