It was at the Chicago World Fair in 1893/1894 that Tesla's AC current won over Edison's much more expensive DC. It was the first major event to be completely lit up by electric bulbs. Note that it was at this fair the World Congress of Religion took place where Sw Vivekananda introduced Vedanta. Tesla was a follower of Sw Vivekananda and you can find a photo in the internet with both of them included. Tesla is said to have drawn much inspiration from the Bhagavat Gita.
