Save them up for awhile and spend them on events so you can progress further in them. I just done an updated video of the best tips last week and explain the gems in there
If you want to play this game for a long time I recommend you to buy all warlords first because to complete lv3 of events you mostly need some soulbinds or lvl ups which are really hard to reach for new players so the day you getting most of warlords you can go thought events easily.. additionally if you get all warlords you can complete more quests in eventcenter what gives you more coins and in events you can go through the simple way at lv3
