How to Sculpt a Foot

  • In this video I demonstrate a simple method for constructing a basic foot from three parts - the sole, ankle, and bridge. Note that there’s a quick reference on how to break down the sections at the end (4:44).
    As always, I’m not claiming that this is the best or only method for sculpting a foot. Rather it’s a systematic approach that works well for beginners.

    This was the most efficient and accurate way I have ever heard someone describe a foot. Mesmerizing. Thanks for the tutorial!

    That was unbelievable. You made that foot plainly for us to see in less than 5 minutes. It was all so nicely broken down into the steps you used and was not even rushed. You are a real expert! Thank you very much!!

    Damn I’ve never done anything like this with clay and I suck at this typa stuff but I was able to make a decent looking foot for my saw diorama I’m making for my forensics class and I’m so excited
    Thank you

      Uh oh, I hope I didn't mess up your teacher’s assignment! On the first day, I always ask my students to sculpt a foot without showing them how. I use it as an evaluatory exercise, to see where they are, and also to demonstrate how far removed our understanding of the body can be from its reality (because people typically get feet very wrong)
      Anyway, best of luck and I hope you really love sculpting the figure!

      @@intheround8310 oh, I didn’t know that was a thing😅. Tho this is the 2nd time he s asked me to make one without showing me, so I thought might as well have the right approach instead of struggling again. It came out pretty good tho, he didn’t have much bad to say about it, and for that I thank you =)

      @@len0_069 oh, well, sounds like maybe it wasn't the intention in this instance. Either way, I think it's great when students are comfortable doing independent research, so good on you!

    Uhhhhhhhhh

    • @intheround8310
      @intheround8310  Год назад

      That is...very small. It would probably require some particular tools. When I'm working small (which I do very infrequently), I often carve custom shaped wood tools for various features.

    • @intheround8310
      @intheround8310  Год назад

      If you mean the block of clay I start with, you can shape that by dropping it against the table on all of its faces a couple of times. But that's not really necessary. You want to use more or less those proportions for the parts, but it doesn't matter how you get them. You could just weigh out the clay, for isntance.
