When I was 16 I got into my NYE show. And waiting outside Oakland Colosseum to get into the lot, I met a uber hippie guy from south east coast, and was talking with him. At some point, he brings up that he heard Jerry Garcia doing a version of Jimmy Cliffs "Harder They Come" that totally kicked ass. Before that, I never knew that JGB didn't write "Harder They Come" themselves. I thought was a Garcia original. Anyways, he preceded to share some home-made pickles with me, out of a zip-lock baggie. They were electric, as I found out later. Mildly so, but pleasent and did the trick.
Edit: not mild, by today's standards.

The Travis- other than the SG- my favorite of his guitars. Like molten lava. Such a great period for his singing snd playing. Merle was a great influence. Ty.
Mustard Tiger not only an incredible sound- but you do a gig with one and its like a workout at the gym. Made a Les Paul seem like a feather -it was such a pure sound, but boy were they heavy!
About as good as it gets, folks. Jerry on the shuffling reggae beat with perfect tone...vocals like honey, bass man Kahn in the pocket with a cigarette burning, godchaux in a dinner jacket tickling the ivories, Donna jean swaying, and Ron tutt with the steady backbone on drumz (dude played with Elvis!). Wow, awesome song. It makes me wish I knew something about music. The beat seems so cool to me, like it has a couple of beats inter-weaved or something. As a bicyclist it somehow how feels like the beat is in tenth gear where you peddle more slowly but the back tires are going really fast. Yup, should paid attention in music class.

As a musician in the making, I've long been trying to understand what syncopation really means. My teacher wasn't exactly able to explain it as well (he said it's when you have broken time signatures, but I doubt it's just that). Could anybody help me out and maybe give an example?
