As a 60 yr old carpenter, you did a magnificent job, and you get my vote as the best father ever! You have a great family! Your videos will be a family treasure! I Subscribed, look forward to more!
Thanks! I really appreciate the comment. It's hard to feel rushed with limited time on site and let little imperfections go, but we are really happy with the result.
Excellent video and a great treehouse. Nice to see the kids involved in the build. My kids were involved with many of our projects growing up and have continued as adults to build projects of their own. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Beautiful Build! I am sure it will provide years of memories for your family. It is unfortunate that building codes forced you to limit the size. Regardless, it is a magical retreat!
@bigfamilyadventure I guess I'm back 10 mon later 😅 Any pros or cons with not using a barrier material in the build. I'm usually seeing the RUclips pros mentioning this in builds. 👍
I’ve been thinking about a cost video, I may still get to this. The material cost was about $15k USD. This includes looking for salvage and discount materials. It does not include any labor.
Awesome. Shame you had to stick to the 75sq ft requirements. Build quality looks amazing. Hopefully your body was ok after all that ladder time up and down. Dad of the year award on this one. I build projects with my daughter all the time and its so much fun.
First off, outstanding! How many tree bolts did you use? Looked like 4 anchor points but can you clarify that? What's the load rating for that anchor system? What's the final project weight?
Thanks! This layout used 4 trees that are in a trapezoid shape, with one bolt in each tree/corner. They are sold by Nelson treehouse company, the "tree fort" product line. The load rating is on their website, it depends on the tree species and the type of load backup used. Basically they can run from about 2,000-15,000 lbs per anchor or so. I'm not sure exactly what the load on our build is. I have always assumed it is easily under the 6,000-8,000 lbs rating I am estimating per corner, snow load included. However, I have a new video coming soon where I upgraded the load backup to the adjustable strut in all 4 corners. More on that soon.
Came across your video in search of ideas for a treehouse project I’m going to be doing in the spring,(yours is loaded)!, I truly love the size and configuration, especially the loft, my only question is did you use all dynamic supports or is one of the supports static, still unsure what to do, I have 4 trees,(fir), with average diameter of 18”’s and 15’ span, my thought is 1 static and 3 dynamic, what are your thoughts please,
This does have 3 dynamic and 1 static. It was a 4 tree “kit” from a diy supplier. It will gradually shift on the dynamic supports until it is very off center. My latest video shows this and an issue we had with the plastic bearing strips sinking into the beams. Keep this in mind if you have snow loads or might be on the upper end of the rating for the smaller hardware.
Thanks so much for your input!! Will definitely keep that in mind, Montana gets its share of snow! Using a heavy load tab from Nelson kit, thanks again for your input!
It absolutely could be nice for easier access. We started out with more of a kid focused design, so it wasn't something we looked at closely yet, but over the years, it could be something that makes sense later!
I didn't make very detailed plans, more of a figure it out as you go approach. But really the bigger issue is that this treehouse would only really work with 4 trees in about the same exact arrangement. If you have something like this, I'd be happy to provide some rough sketches we used, but if you have a different layout of trees, the plans may need to be pretty different.
We've had a few big storms in the past 2 years. So far no concerns. The trees sway and you can feel everything move a little but it was built to allow the trees to move like that.
I would have built whatever size space I wanted and never bothered to involve or even acknowledge any build permits or inspections.. No Trespassing signs… They don’t have all the authority they’d like you to believe and when challenged or ignored they generally look the other way when you’re not in an urban environment.. I build what I want on my timber deferred zoned property and nobody’s ever bothered me.. obviously you can’t build a home but everything else is on the menu..
I can imagine properties where we would have taken this approach. It was not a good option for our case mostly because we already planned to build a separate cabin on site. This means the same inspectors would already be coming to our property. The treehouse is visible from the road and from the cabin site, so it is wasn't worth the hassle of having problems later on.
I always wanted to build something like this but aren't you scared of random people breaking in or something? I mean even kids throwing rock at the window...stuff like that
It hasn't been a big focus. We had some stuff stolen from the property soon after we bought it, but I don't think it was random or kids. I installed a game camera with cellular downloads and actually never saw anyone again. I would say I'm more worried about a big storm taking out a tree. Now we have also added a cabin near the treehouse and it feels more like an occupied space, so ransom mischief is less of a concern. It was worth it for us!
I really hope these are long lived trees, and that doesn't become the failure point. The big beams were definitely overkill, but they were stock sizes, so easier to source. I actually found the metal hardware was NOT over engineered. I plan to put out a lessons learned update soon.
Good video Cool build Waaaaaaaaayyyyy too much talking Had to watch on mute Most of these kinds of videos usually have no talking so got used to that I guess

Thanks for the comment! We've done some remodels before, but nothing like this. I've learned a lot on youtube.
Great job! 25 year carpenter approved

What a wonderful learning and lifetime memory building experience for your family. Thank you very much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! We hope for more memories now that we can enjoy using it. More projects are coming.
What a cool little getaway spot. Nice job on the vid as well. thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful tree house.
That's insane. I wish I had a family like yours.

Thanks! It's been nice memories, and the kids have really enjoyed being involved but also being able to relax in the hammock while dad kept working.
@@bigfamilyadventure I can relate to that last statement LOL.
A beautiful and quality result. Congratulations!
a well executed design and build

thx for the video and you have a beautiful family.
Very cool tree house, especially love the art work you created!
Thank you very much!
This is a great idea
Amazing design and build process. Very inspirational
Thanks for watching!
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Lovely family.
I would love to have this tree house in my farm
well done
Really cool!! 👍
Thank you! Happy New Year!

hello~~ 19:23 it is glaswool?
The insulation in the walls are mineral wool batts. Thanks!
Вау очень красиво, спасибо за видео ❤️
Amazing
what was the total cost?
I’ve been thinking about a cost video, I may still get to this. The material cost was about $15k USD. This includes looking for salvage and discount materials. It does not include any labor.
I like the style maybe bigger if it doesn’t permit as you said but how much did it cost to build the tree house?
Awesome. Shame you had to stick to the 75sq ft requirements. Build quality looks amazing. Hopefully your body was ok after all that ladder time up and down. Dad of the year award on this one. I build projects with my daughter all the time and its so much fun.
Thanks! I'm telling myself that spending my "time off" being active helps keep me young. We'll see.
I love it tree house❤❤❤
Now you have to invite Pete Nelson to check it out. He'll put you on 'Treehouse Masters'.

Wow it is hard for me to imagine how you could have made it any bigger. Hikoo
It’s easy to say that would make it darker and colder j
Have you considered a spiral staircase going up instead of just that steep ladder?
It absolutely could be nice for easier access. We started out with more of a kid focused design, so it wasn't something we looked at closely yet, but over the years, it could be something that makes sense later!
This is really cool and the interior looks amazing, what was the overall cost of the project?
Thanks! We are at about $15k materials cost. I may post a cost breakdown video later this spring.
Can i purchase the plans from you

WOW 💪🙏🤩
Dimensions of the platform?
The overall size of the treehouse and deck platform is approx. 12' x 16'
Cool
And in storm?
We've had a few big storms in the past 2 years. So far no concerns. The trees sway and you can feel everything move a little but it was built to allow the trees to move like that.
The netting being so close to a window sort of scares me w concern. I doubt that is a tempered glass window
Получилось круто с вниманием ко всем деталям, но у меня такой вопрос, если неподалеку основной дом - нахуя нужен дом на дереве ?

Зачем же вы дерево просверлили? Теперь они погибнут быстрее

Over engineered but hey, its going to last several generations of taken care of.

Good video
Cool build
Waaaaaaaaayyyyy too much talking
Had to watch on mute
