JWong is my favorite fighting game player to watch because he doesn't just play what's popular at the time, he'll play whatever. So his channel is a fun walk down memory lane.
I think its the privilege legacy players have. Those who were in the scene for quite some time and already made it to the top no longer have to prove their selves to gain a mass following, without the necessity to grind, the person can freely stream whatever they want, especially if they aren't actively trying to grind for a specific tournament.
The thing I like most about most JWong is that he doesn't have a biased dislike of snk fighting games so really puts his all when playing them and doesn't just half ass it when playing them cause the only reason he's playing them on stream is because his chat has been on his ass forever to give the snk fighting games a chance
Absolutely love SamSho 2 man, the gameplay, the aesthetics, the characters, this game is a masterpiece in my eyes. Easily one of my favorite fighting games of all time.
100% agree. There are only a handful of games that can even compare to the pixel art in this game. Garou and SF3 have the smoothest animation, but SamSho 2 has THE most gorgeous sprites, period.
I remember Justin was just randomly asking what game he should play next in the chat and I randomly recommended SamSho😂 Wasn't expecting Justin to actually play it, but I will definitely say the final boss was an experience. Mizuki is VERY challenging and I'm so happy that Justin was able to defeat her
but the good thing about Mizuki is she telegraphs her attacks when her dog or those stones change color. Characters like Kyoshiro can stay at a safe-ish distance when those cues pop up.
Oh Boy. You finally came for this one huh? Well, now you see what we've all endured all those years ago. One of the most hated SNK bosses from a time when fairness in the arcade was an unknown concept and the machine extracted hatred from you the old-fashioned way: One token at a time.
Bro facts!! From the era of if the Cpu was losing they bring forth the "I win Button" which left many of us crushed and heart broken yet made us more tenacious and driven. Kids today will never know that feeling of earning the respect of the your fellow gaming peers.
🤣 So much good stuff to this video! From not knowing the chicken restores health, to the “legs of steal”, facing Ryo/the ref, reading the story, and then the final boss. Great play through
SamSho it is one of the most amazing, and challenging series ever. Every character has their own discipline, journey, and reason for taking up the sword. Always loved the art style, and music. But it will push your buttons
Samsho2 to me still is the best of the series. Amazing characters, backgrounds, art direction, music, gameplay and even the "random" damage mechanics are very fun. SNK at their best!
Haohmaru was my boy for the series. His rage and raw strength was OD. SamSho IV Amakusa's Revenge implemented a combo system. I'll never forget when I was playing VS a group of 4 friends. And I stunned this guy's Galford character. He was like "What, no combo?" I replied, "How's this for a combo?" My Haohmaru's standing heavy slice cut Galford in half. 😂 Too classic!
Mizuki is also the final boss of Samurai Shodown V Special. Of course in that game in order to fight her, you have to use the Fatality style move every character gets on the other bosses, which in order are Amakusa, Zankuro, and Gaoh.
She's also easily the weakest of the four bosses in that game and is only a threat because of the blatant input reading she does. One of her specials is actually negative on hit.
i used to play the first Sam Sho when I was 8-9, when I'd go to the grocery store with my mom. She'd give me a couple bucks and I'd play that cab every time I went w her. I got REALLY good at it too after a couple years of playing that game and dumping who knows how much money in it. Eventually I got pretty good at beating it but have loooooong since lost any ability I had at that game. Still love the series tho, really fun games.
Mizuki is SO damn dirty. It took me years to be able to get her patterns and reactions down. I got a perfect on her once and beat my chest so hard I thought I cracked my sternum. Lol
lol this man said prince of tennis 😂😂! i love this game back in day had forgotten all about it, lost ton of quarters to this 😭. She summoned “Go bobby!!” lol that little dog go hard
This was really fun to watch. As I saw Samsho 2 being played, I remember being small in 1995, watching big grown dudes, play this game when it first came to the arcade. That last boss is one tough stinker. Alot of people struggled to defeat her. Also, it kinda sucked that Tam Tam wasn't in this game. I always liked playing him. Nice playthrough bro.👍
I still remember when this came out - made other fighting games look tame and cheap. Samurai Shodown got swords and blood and serious mood. One of the best fighters of all time IMHO. Dayum Kuroko put you on the beat-down - don't mess with the ref !
I can't believe you'd never played this! It was everywhere back in the day. I think it was the best selling Neo Geo title of all time. Definitely check out SamSho IV and Samsho V Special as well. IV is the other game that people argue was the best one, and V Special was the final Neo Geo game. It has a ton of cool techniques around movement and dodging.
Two reasons why that's not the best idea. 1. The games adjust difficulty on how often it wants to read your inputs. I know MK2 is sort of a meme at this point, but many NeoGeo titles did the same thing. 2. Because of number one, Level 8 difficulty is actually easier than the default Level 4 setting in many games due to the AI being easier to manipulate.
Oh dear lord. I feel your pain. Mizuki is by far the hardest last boss I have ever fought. I ended up having to resort to some cheese to beat her back in the day.
The reason I beat the boss in arcades is cause the guy that collected quarters gave us mad credits. (Since I was there the day of pick up) also beat metal slug same way but not same day.
Hey Justin, I kinda hate to tell you this, but Ukyo is the best character in this game...by far. Standing AB (2 hit) XX CD Ghostly Dashing Slice (qcf+kick) dizzies just about every time. C Ghostly Dashing Slice combos off of anything and, of course, due to SamSho hit slowdown, you get a ton of time to hit confirm into it. DF+AB (the rolling sword slide) can stun with one hit. The man is broken. Oh....and jumping CD is a great option when you don't have his sword for jumping AB. (All of this will make Mizuki a lot easier to fight.)
About the flashing lights, a lot of Neogeo games actually have an option to turn off the flashing effects. Check in the dipswitches or turn on the AES version then go to the options.
Ooooooh I LOOOVE this episode so much, I had it before even my NEO GEO CD. Haomaru has his hyper desperation move hidden and performable at will in Samsho 2: *TenhaFuujinZan:* ↘, ⬅↙⬇↘➡, ⬅⬇↙ + Strong Slash & Weak Kick, B+C on Neo Geo CD default mapping. (It's not a troll joke, that move really does exist).
Samurai Shodown 2 (Or Shin Samurai Spirits : Haohmaru Jigokuhen) in 1994 was my favourite Samurai Shodown game in the series. Both Haohmaru and Nakoruru have their secret move, with Haohmaru having the most damaging ones of them all (Ten'ha Fuujn Zan) in Samurai Shodown 2.
I can't believe I used to beat this game back in the day, and with either no continues, or 1 or 2. It was many years later I played it in MAME and continued SOOOOOO many times! This is TRULy an SNK Boss™.
Justin haven't checked it yet just started it. Suffering is level 8, you're playing arcade difficulty bro. Edit: nice vid man had a blast watching it. Shame you didn't try level 8, basically every character is as hard as Mizuki. I could 1cc level 8 back in the day, but with some characters I've hardly managed. Also 1cc you get a special ending with dope music, like sf2 series level 8 1cc. Don't think difficulty matter in ss2 for the special ending though. Using the best character in the game, you always top tiering bro 😂 . 1cc level 8 Ukyo probably is the best. Hanzo and Galford were also easier to do then the rest. Haohmaru probably after that and Genjuro. Rest of the cast was hard af to 1cc. Nicotine and Gen An was easy too, you could infinite them with comboing into chain special. Cpu doesn't mash out of it. Btw you left a lot of damage, pressure and positioning on the table. His medium and hard slash combo into his shadow special (qcf+kick).
This is probably my favorite 2D fighter of all time. And Mizuki is so SO difficult because she doesn't seem to have patterns like other SNK bosses. You just have to get lucky hitting her! I only ever once got through beating SSII on one credit at The Galloping Ghost Arcade. I came within just a thousand points or so from the world record score! And oh yeah, once you get past the 3rd or 4th character, you will not be able to throw ANY of the computer controlled opponents unless they're stunned. So just don't bother trying at that point.
Lastly, Ukyo has one of the most damaging combos in this game: jumping deep fierce slash, standing fierce slash and once the second hit on the standing fierce registers, strong or fierce sliding slash (can't remember the name, but it's a 1/4 circle forward with kicks.) BIG BIG damage on that.
The pattern to beat Mizuki is to jump at her and even she blocks you make a neutral jump then heavy slash then if she s close enough an other slash but when you play with the CPU like of you re playing with a human you lose most of time if you know what I mean ! And by the way I m sure this not level 8 witch I always choose since I got my first Neoragex on my PC in 98 ! NB been playing video games since 94 since my Atari and arcade cabins and PC when I got my first IBM PC in 96 ! I have already been living in the future lol !
SamSho lore is crazy, even the ref has a story. He's only reffing these matches because Mizuki has his brother(s?) captive and he has no choice. I presume that that's also the reason he's a secret boss - Mizuki tells him to take out anyone who's too OD.
Damn Justin it was level 4 I don’t think you’ll never play The King of fighters 1995 level 8 Because my next game is gonna be samurai showdown number two and level 8 🫡
If u use Hanzo or Galford, you can do the split into two teleport and keep grabbing her with your special slam. Easiest way to win. Or Jubei : keep crotch and press light kick repeatedly, she will jump and do a heavy slash sometimes, so use your counter.
You think Mizuki is hard? Play Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge and go through the Arcade Mode with Rera (pick Nakoruru & choose Bust Style - I know Rera didn't get her name until 1999, but still). I know it doesn't matter which character you use, but either way, Amakusa is a god damn nightmare in SamSho 4.
3 is difficult.Especially the final boss You beat him regular and the final form is one round. If you lose against final form you go back against the regular form.
I'd argue SS3 Zankuro is the easiest of the bosses, simply because the AI in that game loves to fall into easily exploitable patterns and traps. If anything, the game actually seemed easier on Level 8, because the Level 4 AI was more random in whether it would act.
someone in the chat should have taught Justin how to use "Zanzou Fumikomi Giri" with Ukyo.... with this move, Justin could have saved himself a lot of suffering 😁 (greater combos, good chip damage etc)... Still Kudos for finish the game in a Samurai Shodown 1 style Justin!!
I'm honestly curious to see how Justin handles Zankuro from SS3. I think the worst SNK Boss Syndrome character I can think of is Kouryu from Last Blade 2. That's guy had a super which was a freaking cinematic. I'm almost thinking SNK should just make a fighting game where it's all of their bosses fighting each other.
I beat this game pretty easily with earthquake he’s honestly the best way to go. You can zone characters with his chain attacks and if they come close you can fire breath their asses. Even Mizuki is easy to beat with him. Honestly the first two samsho games AI are cheap but from 3 and on I found the games to be a lot more easier. I’m a huge samsho fan and I’ve played the games for years so maybe it just became second nature to me but I definitely don’t look at samsho as difficult as a game like Art of fighting 2 or Kaiser knuckle
Fun fact: why tem tem not in the game he became a monkey and his sister cham cham will help her brother to break the cruse and yes that ending is for Cham Cham
For those that dont know tam tam is cham chams brother and if I'm correct with the lore tam tam is the monkey next to cham cham. He was turned into the monkie because of cham cham taking something that he was suppose to watch over . This village elders turned him into a monkie. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this
I remember playing on level 4 difficulty and spending like 5 hours trying to beat Mizuki man she really beats you down you feel beaten down ya no Tam Tam there’s Cham Cham Nicotine and Seiger super fun game

Neogeo games are so cold. You feel mad accomplished and the difficulty is only on 4.
This has to have one of the most brutal arcade modes
God I love this game. I played this so many times at my local pizzeria as a kid.

So we need a max difficulty run of this. None of this level 4.... this is weaksauce for Justin. Level 8!

No salty run-back against the referee!

someone in the chat should have taught Justin how to use "Zanzou Fumikomi Giri" with Ukyo.... with this move, Justin could have saved himself a lot of suffering 😁 (greater combos, good chip damage etc)...
Still Kudos for finish the game in a Samurai Shodown 1 style Justin!!
We need a Justin Wong "EXCUSE ME?!" shirt...
Omg this referee is a badass. He got the moves from Ryo Sakazaki
Yeah in the timeline SamSho II is the last game. Mizuki is literally the Last Boss
the scary part is how mizuki is one of the easier ones due to how her AI can be jebaited very easily
You don't wanna take the grab against Mizuki! Yeahhhhhh
Rashoujin Mizuki, the most frightening FG Final Boss of all time. She still scares me...
For those that dont know tam tam is cham chams brother and if I'm correct with the lore tam tam is the monkey next to cham cham. He was turned into the monkie because of cham cham taking something that he was suppose to watch over . This village elders turned him into a monkie. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this
Samsho2 It's my favorite game in the series. Mizuki made me suffer a lot until I was able to beat him. Greetings from Argentina.
Mizuki is actually a female, and to me she is the series toughest last boss outside of Demon Gaoh.
If I could only have one fighting game in my home it would be Samurai Showdown IV
Now try 3 and 4. I'd love to see you beat Zankuro. :p
I remember playing on level 4 difficulty and spending like 5 hours trying to beat Mizuki man she really beats you down you feel beaten down ya no Tam Tam there’s Cham Cham Nicotine and Seiger super fun game
I didn't expect to see Kuroko, beating that son of a **** is quite difficult too xD
