    In this video I talk to my mum and dad, who got married in Manchester in the UK in 1974, about their wedding and their wedding photography. It was really interesting to hear my parent's wedding stories and look through their wedding photographs.
    I also talk about what lessons I learned from looking through my mum and dad's photographs and why it made me realise just how important our job is - we are documenting weddings for people who aren't even born yet.

    What a delightful pastiche of your parents on their wedding day. Your mother was truly the essence of a beautiful blushing bride, & your father had a bit of a Keith Moon-ish twinkle in his eye. To see that they're alive & well, happy, healthy, & still very much in love is a beautiful testament. Your message is absolutely true that the main priority is to capture the people, their relationships, & their stories for future generations. Thank you for allowing us to have a peek into something so personal. Respect!

      Thank you so much Richard, that is very kind of you. My mum and dad will love your kind comment, I can imagine my dad will especially love the Keith Moon comparison - he loves the Who, you'll have made his day!

    This was so insightful, it is the pictures of the people, as you say, who grandchildren will look back at and make connections with their younger Grandparents. Thank you Neil, this was an amazing video and thank you to your parents for sharing their memories.

    How cool that was to watch! They’re still very much in love with each other and that’s wonderful to see!! My favorite pictures shown in the video is the one of their hands linked in front of the cake. Different and pretty cool. And the B&W one of them that a friend had taken.

    Such an enjoyable conversation and I really enjoyed hearing their story. Seeing this makes me wish I knew the story of my parents as well. As for what you said about wedding photography, I couldn’t agree more... it’s really the documentation of the day and capturing the people and especially the moments that we didn’t even have to help create but they came naturally and are real. Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing

    Sweet video! It would be nice to scan those pictures and “touch” them up a little and make them a wedding album, since they never got one.

    Brilliant Video Neil, I love to look at photographers from the film days and like you said they hold stories in them that are truly personnel. The 70's certainly had a look about them, I had to chuckle at your dad's shoes I remember wearing a similar pair in the first year of secondary school, amazing. I agree that todays weddings are much more glamorous but the emotions are still the same. Just 40 frames taken by the photographer who then went on to cover another wedding on the same day. makes you wonder if we will ever go back to those days especially when you consider that maybe 120 images go into the wedding album, what happens to the rest? Big thank you to your mum n dad, lovely insight the their wedding day :-) Oh just a thought the photographer used flash and no TTL!!

      Thank you very much Jon! And yes, I agree with everything you say, a wedding is never about the venue or the details, it is always about the people ...and I definitely agree with you about my dad's shoes! Haha

    Thanks for your video, I really enjoyed it. The genuine unscripted moments of a wedding day do seem to play second fiddle to the epic, staged expectations of what wedding photographs should be, even though in the long term it seems that the character shots bring most pleasure. I love both and think there's a place for both. As a wedding photographer do you think it is possible to cover both styles on a day or should a couple hire a specialist photographer for each style?

    • @NeilRedfern
      @NeilRedfern  4 года назад

      Thank you very much Paul! I definitely think there is a place for both and I aim to try and capture both as much as best I can. I am just aware that the "epic" portraits are very much for the here and now, but the shots which truly stand the test of time are the moments. So both are important. But that is something which we only realise over time. It's really interesting.

      @@NeilRedfernThanks for taking the time to reply Neil. I agree that the moments are the real interest in the long term. It's clear that you think that it's possible as one photographer to cover both styles on a day. It must mean though that some moments of the day with the friends and relatives are missed when with the happy couple getting the couple shots I guess.
