As a Master Gardener, I love how you have changed and evolved the Epic Gardening platform. Each one of your staff members brings new insight into gardening weather soil maintenance, irrigation, propagation, mulching you name it. Your tips and learning experiences teaches other gardeners how they can better maintain their garden. Thank you for your hard work.
4:36 She isn't kidding about the zone 4 thing.. This area of the Midwest definitely gets pretty cold in the winter. Working at a local nursery, they treat everything here like its zone 4 so that everything is hardy even in the occasionally severe cold days. Works very well in my experience. I'd say this microclimate reaches down past Dubuque and stretches over to Galena at least.
I've been getting a lot of these types of videos on social media where someone that knows what is doing on a particular topic goes out of its way to let you know what he/she is doing and you should too. You probably know (since you are making this video), but I really appreciate this format since it feels like a neighbor that REALLY knows what it's doing and giving you advice on how to improve I'm also from across the border (Tijuana) so all your advice can (in most cases) apply for my zone as well! Love hearing Erin's advice about more decorative perennial plants. It's an area I've gotten into more but it's so different in a lot of ways to traditional veggie gardening that I feel like it's a whole new set of things to learn.
Well done, Kevin! Your affiliates have so much knowledge and experience to offer! I learned something useful from each gardener today, including yourself. I rarely view videos longer than 10-15 mins -- short attention span 🥴 I guess -- but I watched this video with rapt interest. I love the way you have created such a well-rounded staff with appealing personalities and approaches from a variety of zones. It’s come to my attention that there seems to be a lack of tacky garden decor in San Diego!!! Here in the south every garden has at least one garden gnome shout out to Meg!! If u didn’t know garden gnomes take care of the garden at night!
Google lens has been my best friend in the garden for the last couple years. Aside from fresh seedlings its helped me find so many plants I want and identified so many things, biggest win was a pecan tree that shot out cause my parents cut the tree without digging the trunk and roots out. It snapped off, so I took a pic and then dug further after it said it to find a tree trunk 😂 they were like oh yeh I totally forgot we had a pecan tree there haha

I’m in a North Tampa suburb and attempting the Millennial Gardener’s strategy of growing tomatoes under 40% shade cloth through the summer. Attempting to outsmart mother nature. Wish me luck!
Yep... E TN here. I harvested/pulled all my brassica this past weekend. It's getting too hot and they started getting a lot of pest damage too. Gives me room to grow more summer things - LOTS and LOTS of basil lol. Yep. I do the stem twist and pull method where I try to leave all the little roots in the ground from the prior plant but remove the big stem so that I can plant something new there.
One thing people might forget is that animals, mostly pet dogs, really love the smell of organic fertilizers and may decide to help you repot your plants by ripping them out to eat the fertilizer. So if you have dogs, fence in your plants with some wire fencing for a while until the smell fades enough, usually a week or 2.
I have a pot knife too. Helps trim the flower😂😂😂We avoid grass products because of the roundup widespread use. It lives in manure and lives in straw The hula ho is 1 of the most underrated garden tools. A true warhorse for weeds
I am experimenting with a cherokee purple tomato seedling I started this year. I put it in directly to the ground which is heavy clay and about 3 inches of home made compost and raised bed organic soil from last year. And it's looking super healthy! I water it about once a week or so. I'm in zone 8b, Texas. I have it in an area where they get morning and late afternoon sun. I'll let you know how that goes.
Hi Erin! I’m so excited to see you here, joining Epic Gardening, especially since we’re in the same zone. Your old pal from Stonehouse Nursery in Michigan!
I am always so excited to see these videos posted because I know I’m going to learn something interesting for my zone 6a garden. One request: I’d love some more videos with recipes!
I would love to see guides for what to plant when to have veg and fruit production (almost) all year round in different hardiness zones. I’m a relatively inexperienced gardener in zone 7a and would love to know what needs to be planted when so there is production most of the year. Thank you for your fantastic videos!!
For all of us over here in the UK: 1) Prepare to battle a never ending horde of slugs eating our seedlings. 2) Refuse to surrender in the face of certain defeat, deploying beer traps, and hunting hiding places by day, torches and big tweezers by nights. 3) Rejoice in the demise of the slug army and watch everything flourish!
I tried beer traps here in the US and they didn't work. What finally worked was going out with soap spray after a rain, when all the slugs would come out. I never saw a slug infestation again. Also, firefly nymphs are natural predators of slugs. The firefly nymphs look very different from the adults, so it helps to learn to recognize them.
I've already got caterpillars here in Northern New Mexico. I held back some of my broccoli seedlings indoors, in case my transplants get munched. Good luck with your slugs and snails.

Watching you thin peaches makes me sad over our crop loss this year. The same January cold snap that completely wiped out the grape harvest here in the Okanagan BC ( aka Napa North ) also decimated the tree fruit industry. So no peaches on my tree this year for the first time ever. But being that I only have one tree, I know so many people are much worse off, and at least I can still enjoy his shade😊
You have some leaf curl on your peach tree Kevin, too late now but just as the tree starts budding next year you should spray it with a copper solution to prevent it, also on leaf fall as well. Using copper is organic. 👍👍
