Thanks this is just the vid and info that I was looking for! I've always only had sportbikes because of their maneuverability, size and power. It's so easy to lane split in them. But now that I'm getting older and back is hurting a bit I need something more comfortable but I really DO NOT want to lose the advantages of the sportbike specially in regards to lane splitting. I have been looking at this Honda Rebel as a replacement but was worried about the size being too big to lane split in but it seems that it can handle it without much issue! I might be getting one soon now!
When on the highway, try to lane split only in between the 2 left most lanes. It will decrease your chances of getting hit a little bit since a lot of car drivers are used to motorcyclists lane splitting on those lanes. Lane splitting is relaxing to me compared to being stuck in traffic in a car but on some narrow streets it can be stressful, especially when stuck in hot weather and traffic.
Thanks for the tip. I always split the left most lane. The part of the video I split to the right is is always heavily congested and riders split all lanes and its usually like a parking lot out there at that time. I also try to split only at 30mph or lower... keyword try.
@@MacrossGarage I know what you mean by "try". It is so tempting to go faster and it seems safe to do so often. But stuff happens when you least expect it. Stay safe.
I began splitting and filtering before I knew it had a name ... it felt normal, like, if I was in a car and had clearance proportional to the two vehicle's size difference, I would certainly take that opening. I got my first ticket for doing it not when I was filtering like what is shown in this video, but splitting and travelling too fast in moderate, smooth-flowing traffic. I do wish that it was legal here on the east coast, but really, the cops here arent likely to pull you if you are being safe. the guy on the Street Glide, and the guy on the white bike, that passed you? well, they wouldnt be pulling them over either, but only because it wouldnt be possible in that jam-up. And there's the silver lining; it may be illegal or frowned upon in other states, but in the situations you would really lament not being able to split lanes, if you do it safely, they will either look the other way, or won't be able to catch you anyway. (btw, it was hard to tell, but there were a few moments in the video where I wasn't sure whether you had to put your feet down. it LOOKED like you did, but I've never been squeezing between a box truck and a car and gained clearance by putting my feet on the ground. so if you were static, nice one - I rarely meet riders here that care to master low speed manuevers :) )
You are only suppose to split at 30mph or slower but sometimes you forget how fast you are going. Some split at 80mph hour which I would never do. I don't think had my foot down unless I stopped.
I like to be able to feather the clutch at low parking lot speeds. It can be jerky with just throttle at low speed but you learn to manage it. While splitting lanes you can’t pull the clutch in the rev the engine to alert cars of your presence.
I’ve been riding mostly freeways on my Rebel 500. Is the lane splitting as easy as the Rebel 500 ? Would appreciate a response cos I’m thinking of upgrading to 1100 and I live in the Bay Area.
The 500’s lighter weight and softer throttle response makes it easier but the 1100 is easy as well. Splitting in the Bay Area traffic will save you time.
Its probably one of the advantage for the dct. One less thing to think about in crunch time. Only thing is you cant pull the clutch and rev the engine for extra noise to let people know you are there.
That lane splitting is insane!

It feels very sporty so splitting lanes is ok.

@@JLRide You too. Make more videos :)
@@MacrossGarage Yes sir 🤘
Exactly what I looked for!
👍🏻
What a time saver, esp in SF...Yeah!!
Hell yea...
This is very valuable video 😍👍 that's will be my next bike, thanks 🙏
You’re welcome. You will enjoy the Rebel 1100
Looks like from the presidio to cohabit......nice riding!
Stanyan to Freeway.
1:22 super close lane splitting. Almost hit the red tesla!
Its nerve wrecking at times but fun.
Nice drive, ride safe
Thank you, you too.
great drive, exhaust must be heard upfront. drive safe bro
Thank you. Ride safe.
Great video. Thanks for posting! Can a Florida cop bother you while lane splitting, or is it just a biker rule?
I believe it’s illegal to lane split with a motorcycle in Florida
Ok, thanks!

You're in SF!? How do you like the DCT 1100 so far? I'm thinking of upgrading to it an not worry about clutch.
Would love to connect if possible. I'm also in SF.
I am in the eastbay. Enjoying the DCT. It lets you concentrate on other things better. It has minor down falls. Yea I am down to connect.
@@MacrossGarage what's the minor downfall? I'm thinking about getting a used one.

@@MacrossGarage ah. That is true. I am going to test drive. Either the DCT or trident 660
This is intense. I kinda wanna try to do it
Take the MSF course then you can try it.

How do you like DCT in traffic for lanesplitting? Worth getting over the manual?

@@MacrossGarage how do you static balance a DCT? don't tell me that's automatic too.....
@@icandsc No having a clutch to feather is a disadvantage but you learn to really be good with the throttle. Its hard in sports mode.
Is that normal California traffic? How do you guys put up with that?!
For the most part its normal. Easy to deal with if you ride.
I have neither the skill or confidence but I have lane splitted on short lines of traffic at just above walking pace
I usually don't do it on normal rides but commute rides it's a must.
That accident at the end looked like it involved a motorcycle.
Yes it did. I saw the guy laying down behind the car for a brief second.
