I wish this had more views. I came here hoping that you would be an Orthodox Christian monk by now. I guess your journey is not over. I will say a prayer that you will come back to Orthodoxy. You're a talented filmmaker, you should use your gifts to spread the True Faith! ☦️
You don't have to be born Orthodox. You can become Orthodox. I did. I began my journey three years ago. And I am still beginning. What Monachos says is true. Come home, my friend.
@tmh726 From the 16th to late 19th centuries, many Balkan countries were under Ottoman (Islamic) rule and the ringing of church bells was prohibited.... In response, many of the monastic communities made rythmic sounds on wood to summon the community of monks to pray the Daily Offices (matins, vespers etc.)
@dakotagerman1 I am not really an expert on Orthodoxy, but I think there is a difference between reverence and worship. The Orthodox revere Mary for her grace and the fact that God chose her as his instrument to bear the Christ. It is more like showing honor and respect for one of God's greatest (if not the greatest) servants.
The Lord will teach you His ways (Ps24:9). So it says in the psalm. God does teach man His ways, but only when that man is meek and humble. God teaches only such people. - St. Nikon of Optina
Jesus is the embodiment of God. Jesus is the voice of God and in essence is God. God has many representations, one representation is Isus Hristos. I feel sad, when I hear your journey away from the truth. And you left Orthodoxy, simply by interpreting a verse from the Bible and using it to make yourself confused, why didn't you ask a "calugar" to respond to your questions.
@dakotagerman1 We don't worship Mary as a god, but as the one who gave birth to God. Likewise we venerate the saints, not as gods, but as men who have been made holy by God's grace and thereby reflect His glory. It is therefore edifying and sacred to present images not only of God incarnate but of His mother and all the saints who proclaim by example His salvation which is available to all mankind.
What you say is true, there are so many "religions of works" these days, Mormonism, Catholicism, Islam, and of course, the many orthodox religions of the world... When the bible was first written it was just the Jews that were guilty of this type of false worship, everything else was pagan polytheism. Praise the Son of God, His True Way, Jesus has come to "reveal" to us the Spiritual Worship! Not of Works, but through the Holy Spirit of God! -Do not confuse the phrase "not of works" with Calvin
@dakotagerman1 We venerate and pray and worship the blessed saints..who were men, humbled and still committed sin..because no one (but the pope who is infallable) is without sin..so do you not THINK that we would worship the MOTHER of Christ..the woman God Himself chose to give birth to the saviour..can you imagine the grace upon Mary for God to have chosen her..and you ask why we pray to her? I think you should do some reading before sounding ridiculous again..
The Orthodox Church (continuation of the 1st millennium Church) is neither a "religion of works" nor a "religion of faith". It's beyond these -quite modern- distinctions. Such concepts are against Jesus' teachings who once said the parable of the Workers in the Vineyard (works don't matter) & another time described the final judgment as in Matthew 25:31-46 (works matter). Also, protestantism shouldn't consider himself pure of theories that overestimate works since it has pietism in it.
@veritas89g can be done very very easily..believe me....The goal of orthodoxy is to save souls...and so no one with the will to become closer to God is turned away from our true faith.. Inquire and you will see how it is done..if you need any help you can email me...I ll guide you to the right people..
