bob Jordan.. a st.louis fan here. live in overland mo. now.. loved dick the bruiser once he turn on von raschke and blackjack lanza... his feud with dory funk jr... were classic...
Was the kiel auditorium the st. Louis arena or was it a different building? I grew up around stl in the 80's and went to the arena several times but the only Kiel I knew of was the new hockey arena they built.
Dick the Bruiser has achieved mythic status here in and around Chicago. You go to the bars that time forgot, the ones that have the same Old Style sign hanging there since it was installed during the Eisenhower administration...you know the type. Every one of them has legends of when Dick the Bruiser got into a fight in their bar. "Yeah, he was sitting on dat very bahrstool when da fight happened." Now there are dozens of these places, and even more when you get out to places like Rockford and Peoria. Surely Dick the Bruiser couldn't of had a fight in all of them... ...But maybe, just maybe, he had a fight in some of them. And perhaps--just perhaps--if he had a fight in some of them, he had a fight in all of them. Who am I to say? The old timers seem convinced.
Mad greek Saw this guy wrestle ivan koloff and baron von rachke and team with the crusher to beat the vachons.great memories and still have the programs from these shows.
Lou Gordon was great, this was from his TV show & not a radio broadcast so there should be video of it out there somewhere. I remember Lou & his lovely wife Jackie & one show in particular where he interviewed Joey the Hitman who was supposadly a professional hit man for the mob.
Drinking beer and chasing Girls !!! -- maybe not the best way to stay in shape ,but still a lot more fun!👍💪😎P.S. would've loved to see him and Brock Lesnar square off too bad they're from different era's, if they met my money's on Dick the Bruiser! 👍💪💪💪💪😎
I can only think of two examples of heels that were so over with the fans, no matter what the promoters did with them, they couldn't book them as anything other than a face. The most recent example was the Road Warriors, who gouged the eye of Dusty Rhodes to thunderous applause. But Dick the Bruiser was the first, and could have gouged both eyes of Dusty Rhodes, leaving him permanently blind, and have everybody in the house thinking Dusty deserved it.
@@randybarnett2308 You must not be familiar with Lou Gordon, this has to be one of his most restrained interviews ever. I think he was playing it safe.
I remember watching Dick wrestle Bobby Heenan before he became brain in 1973 back when wrestling was still worth watching, and I just wonder how many times Dick wanted to punch this interviewer?
Lou Thesz had mad skills. But he came from a time when a man like Thesz could let the skills do the talking for him. There was no need to "cut a promo" or to "get heat" or figure out a strategy to "get over with the fans" in wrestling's golden age. But that was changing.
I’m impressed by Dick The Bruiser’s intelligence, wit, and thoughts during this interview. I also enjoy his sense of humor, too!
I used to watch Bruiser each Saturday morning on TV.
Sure do miss this legend.
Bruiser is on Mt. Rushmore along with Verne Gagne, Bruno Sammartino, The Sheik, and Ernie ‘The Big Cat’ Ladd.
Who the hell would ever hit dislike for anything to do with Dick the Bruiser? Wrestling history.
Especially if Bruiser was in the same room as that person.
Gone way too soon. Will love this guy forever!
Dick The Bruiser, my favorite wrestler of all time closely followed by the original Sheik.
RIP You were the greatest of all time
Thank you. Brought back memories of going with my family of 9 siblings and parents to matches at Channel 5 here in Oklahoma. My name is Leslie too.
Saw him many times at Kiel Auditorium in the 1970s and got his autograph at age 12, nice guy and like something larger than life from a comic book.

Best interview out there!
He was my favorite Always !!
Who remembers his feud with John Paul Henning? Broke a water pitcher over Henning's head and his wife claims it was real.
Dick the bruiser was not fake wrestler he was the real deal that's what they call him the world dangerous wrestler can you understand that
Bruiser and Da Crusher my 2 favorites growing up in South Bend, IN 👍
*lol* i just watched a video of a younger Bruiser being cleanly pinned by Verne Gagne.. The Riot story is absolutely 100% true though

This man launched David letterman’s career
I love this this interview
The interviewer was brave asking Dick the Bruiser if wrestling is fake, good thing he didn't go Dr D on his ass !

Dick the Bruiser is very well spoken!
I've seen a lot of videos of these old wrestlers and I'm surprised at how many of them were humble and well spoken.
It's interesting to hear a guy who was primarily known for being a genuine tough guy who comes off as rather intelligent.
I would love to find matches of Alex Karras wrestling. Curious if Lou ever interviewed The Shiek. Dude was kayfabe like no other.
I read where he walked through airports with his Arab head dress on and the guy was actually born in Michigan
great interview i miss uncle lou

marc dewey Bob Luce used to call him”pretty boy” Bobby Heenan. RIP
Was it Dick the Bruiser who gave Heenan the neck injury?
Dick, was very intelligent.
Before steve austin we had dick da bruiser
The Brusier and The Crusher were the most entertaining tag team ever.
Alex karras and Bruiser never fought at the Lindell
I watched this when it first aired.
I use to watch him at the napa fairgrounds in the 60 or70
He was damn tough.
He lost to Lou Thesz. He didn’t give Lou a hard time or Lou would’ve paintbrushed the mat with him.
Lou could have paintbrushed the mat with pretty much anybody back then
