I'm a First Aid, BLS, CPR with AED instructor. There are two techniques in doing CPR. One is the CAB protocol which means you need to give 30 chest compressions and then give two ventilations. One complete cycle of CAB cpr sequence is 30 chest compressions and two breaths. The other technique is to do the C only or Chest compressions only, and no more ventilations. It is also called the "hands only CPR".

How first aid is taught largely depends on the country where you receive your training. We are an Australian First Aid training provider, and as a result, we must teach the way the governing bodies in this country require us to teach. For CPR we follow the guidelines set out by the ARC - The Australian Resuscitation Council, who still recommend a compression-to-ventilation ratio of 30:2. While trainers will tell you that breaths are optional depending on whether you're willing/able to give them, it is still the preferred method in Australia.
We are aware that some other countries no longer teach this method.
