I still hold tickets for a concert planned for 2020 but sadly is postponed to 2023. Can't wait to see Steve Hackett and Band again. It was always a highlight in the past years and something to look forward to. I am always torn in two, because I like to hear the classic Genesis material but also love his new works. I was too young to see Genesis live at the time and Steve's concerts are the closest I can get to it. Although these songs have a dear place in my heart, they seem like finger exercises compared to his new stuff.

Thanks to SH for keeping this still groundbreaking, timeless, fresh , high quality music alive. Steve Hackett is the only one of the 5 of the classic line up who truly values and appreciates and 'gets' their early 1970s music for what it was and is. 'warts and all'. Where some find 'busy' others find 'layered, intricate'. This is music that rewards repeated listening and doesn't get old, unlike some of the music they did later w/o him, albeit being much more commercial successful. Steve understands the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. PS: People should 'dredge' great timeless music, especially if they helped forge it. And even if one didn't, how are we supposed to pass on for future generations the music of JS Bach, Mozart, Bethooven, Duke Ellington, Art Blakey, Miles Davis, John Coltrane or whatever other great artist of the past? That music must be celebrated and played live, whether by some of its creator or by other players.... Completely agree w/ Steve's assessment of the situation. The time is now.

That was great John. I could listen to Steve talk all day. I love the beautifully descriptive way he speaks. And he has such reverence for music and musicians and always seems like such a lovely guy. I can't wait to see him in April!

Just found out he's touring this year and coming to where I live. He's the only one of the original line up I haven't seen live. I hope he brings Ray Wilson and Rob Townsend with him.

Awesome interview. Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound are my 2 favorite Genesis albums from all eras. They are hard to beat.

Excellent interview. I especially enjoyed hearing about what Steve brought to the group for specific songs.
Every now and then, a very talented group of people get together and something extraordinary happens. This was, and is, GENESIS. They are the perfect storm of multi-talented individuals who reached far beyond simply making music, and traveled to magical places and spaces..and, fortunately for us, took us with them on their journeys. Each member had something special and different to contribute. Genesis would not be the same without Phil's keen sense of timing and jazz drumming style, Peter's amazing voice, lyrics/stories and sense of performance, Tony's wonderful chord progressions, Mike's colorful and fulfilling bass and 12-string, and ESPECIALLY Steve's classical influences and his amazingly haunting, mood setting, and inspiring guitar solos. There are some great bands from this era of music but Genesis is, and will always be, more than just a band one listens to. They are a band that one EXPERIENCES for a lifetime.

Rehashing classic Genesis ?!!! More like keeping it from extinction seeing as the rest of the line up seems to have forgotten it and put invisible touch and sledge hammer type of things in it's place. Steve is up there with Hendrix in talent, creativity and originality.

I found the last section very interesting. A great question about which solo album of the band members Steve liked. I’d say Smallcreeps is an excellent pick. I always thought Rutherford pinched much of Steve’s style on that album.
For me though on the same question, Peters first album is the best.
    Great interview overall 👍

Hey John, any chances of interviewing King Crimson and/or Robert Fripp about their decision to officially retire?
Got to see them late last summer here in Michigan and they blew me away!
So glad I got to see them especially if it was the last time.
