  • Despite writing Dragon Ball and multiple other one shots during its release, Akira Toriyama somehow managed to fit a movie amongst all that. However despite Toriyamas own love for this film its remained largely unknown for decades. So join me today as we delve into Kosuke and Rikimaru: Dragon of Konpei Island or Kosuke-sama, Rikimaru-sama: Konpeitō no Ryū if your one for long titles.

Toriyama passing hit me a lot harder than I thought. Dragon Ball was a huge part of my life and even inspired my own work. But seeing what he did outside of it like Dr Slump, Dragon Quest etc. I really do appreciate everything he’s done. Even if I didn’t like everything he’s done. I know the term “GOAT” is often thrown to describe people but Toriyama earned this title. The man impact on Japanese entertainment cannot be understated. RIP. You will be missed.

Toriyama might be known for Dragon Ball, Dr Slump and Dragon Quest, but there are plenty of other stuff he's worked on like "Kosuke & Rikimaru" that deserve more attention to really appreciate him as a creator.

Forever missed, and it's up to all of us to come together and pay as many tributes to him as we can.

Seeing Toriyama’s other works really makes me wish he made a bunch of other series while he was alive. Even if it was just from a writer and director’s chair. But I don’t really blame him, spending almost everyday hunched in a chair drawing manga to reach a weekly deadline for more than a decade and creating probably the most iconic manga/anime in your country and even in other places around the world would probably make me just wanna chill out with smaller stuff after I finished too.

I still think it would've made more sense for an experienced Toei DBZ artist to do the DBS manga. Although the new artist for DB is a great artist, he completely drops the ball when it comes to character design. The artist over the DBZ anime clearly understood what goes on in Akiras' head when designing characters.

    • @forgottenrelics1197

I kinda do too and its happened in the past. The The Brief Return of Dr. Slump manga was drawn by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, the character designer of the Buu arc, GT and now Daima. He even did a art collab with Toriyama back in the 2000s. Pity he was never brought on.

This is a little late but I'm glad for the approach u took in this as (not goin too deep) it's still not "real" to me. I've gone through a lot of Tori's stuff but for some reason I skipped over this. Thx for remindin me of it. I'd like to C u go through some other older stuff here & there. I also would be interested to C u look at the Sand Land series since it's a little diff from the norm but still Tori. I feel like normally I'd have somethin else to add but I'm in an odd-ish mood (lol) so I'll say this was really fun to C & glad to C u do another fun upload.

It has been a month since Toriyama passed away, but his legacy left an impact on shonen genre since _Dragon Ball_ comes out. I know that he did worked on _Dr. Slump_ and _Dragons Quest,_ but the _Sandland_ manga turned into a video game adaptation recently, which is the reason why I read its story.
Rest in power, Akira Toriyama. 🫡
