  • In this episode of TFBTV Show Time, ‪@JamesReeves‬ is at EnforceTac in Germany to speak with ‪@steyr_arms‬ about the new Steyr DMR. The Steyr DMR is, obviously, a designated marksman rifle with incredible statistics: It weighs less than 7 pounds, can be chambered in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, or .277 FURY/6.8x51mm AND it will shoot sub MOA, according to Steyr. This rifle has not been produced yet but it was just unveiled - check today's video for details and SUBSCRIBE to Show Time for more updates from Enforce Tac and IWA.

      At 2k USD, it is very comparable to many already available 308 piston DMR options. Robinson XCR, POF Revolution, PWS Mk216/Mk218. It'll be interesting to see how well the new Steyr holds zero from cold bore and during sustained firing vs those. Personally, I'd rather the customization of the XCR than the other options.

      The AUG made the m16 look not as alien as it did and to think it was many decades ago they designed them. It was just too sci fi i think. So it looks absolutely magnificent but the m16 ended up being better to upgrade and adapt. If im not mistaken it has quick swap barrel. Its still alive and well in the hearts and minds of people. Its in many video games.

      @@TheAnnoyingBoss Yeah I've talked to soldiers in Australia who said they'd prefer an AUG over an AR platform any day.
      The bullpup design I think makes shouldering the rifle more comfortable, and the AUG is a shorter weapon with the same full length barrel too. The complaint you always hear with a bull-pup is the trigger, and the AUG supposedly even has one of the best feeling bull-pup triggers.

      Since Steyr has production facilities in the USA. They can finish the rifle with the 922R parts list to get a tactical rifle into the USA. Otherwise Steyr has to neuter the gun to make it a "sporting" rifle. It's like the problem with the Benelli M-4 shotgun. The Benelli shotgun that is imported to the USA is a "sporting" shotgun. The M-4 that everyone wants is the tactical version. For those that have a "sporting" Benelli M-4 you convert to the full tactical model with the parts made by Freedom Tactical Company. They make all the parts needed to fulfill the requirements of 922R rule of the ATF. You can either install the parts yourself or send your M-4 to Freedom Tactical for installation.
      You may not have to do this since Steyr can send partially made rifles to the US as parts kits. And the US facility completes the rifle with the US made parts for final assembly. And yes the ATF is absolutely useless. Definitely wanting to completely disarm all Americans. Not just the criminals. Making policies that have the same impact of felony laws. Only the Congress and Senate can make such laws. Not some bureaucratic agency.

Recoil also increases when you have a shorter barrel. I have been asking myself the same question you just asked: Why do people wanna have a short barrel? :D lol I mean unless you are planning to clear rooms and tight corners, a short barrel doesn't do you much good.

    Interesting to see companies producing for .277 Fury / 6.8 whatever they are going to call it. It probably won't be long until someone develops one with the specific barrel length and gas settings to optimize the round for longer range shooting. Even though it seems like most people think the M7 is basically going to be a DMR, the Army seems to see otherwise and might be interested in something that can reach out even further with greater precision in a DMR role.

      From what I understand the 6.8 ammo is key ingredient in that weapon, and the 6.8 available to the public isn't going to be the same thing they're running in the military. It being suited for defeating body armor/not available to the public is kind of upsetting.
      They claim it's forward thinking for battles with China/Russia, but it would also be suitable for dealing with domestic combatants that are geared up.

      What would those issues be?

    • @RenickRidingMoto
      @RenickRidingMoto Год назад +5

      @WaterZer0 In my experience, reliability with the DI gas system (be it under or over gas), weight (my AR-10 is at least 10 pounds without anything on it), physical size (this gun looks significantly smaller than most guns on the market), and I'd assume it'll be more favorable with suppressors without specific modification. To name a few. I'm sure you can find many more out there.
      It seems like most manufacturers just scale up their AR-15s to .308 and call it a day, so they tend to have these issues. While in this case they spent 2 years dedicated to making a DMR that has similarities but isn't the same as usual AR10s. The folding stock is a great bonus too. With usual AR10s, at best you can get an adapter but you can't shoot while it's folded.

    • @pablojosediablo
      @pablojosediablo Год назад +2

      Sig didnt set the standard. Ar18 system been around longer. Buffer tube systems have better recoil characteristics. At the time, there was no reason to prioritize bufferless systems since fighting doctrine had not considered cqb and mobile infantry prioritizing folding stocks. Matter of fact, even now there are few instances where you would need to fire with the stock folded, tbh it’s a gimmick unless you’re ALWAYS going to be engaging from compact positions ( inside a vehicle, etc). Also, if you’re planning on rebutting that the MCXs have a better recoil pattern than a standard AR, no, they dont. The MCX compensates for the lack of a buffer tube with additional weight to manage recoil. Even the MPX(9mm MCX) is heavier than my 16inch DI, that’s ridiculous. The only thing I would like to see on ARs in the newest MCX would be the left-side charging feature, the rear charging handle is definitely an outdated feature on AR15s
