So many different amazing stories, oh my, from polyC to amoeba to 5S and back to polio eradication, enjoyed from the start to the end.

Still at 30:00 and I can see it would be a very interesting chat. That why I keep watching MicroTV even pandemic is over (?).

While it can be hard to find two hours at once to listen, it's so worth it to get that sort of in-depth interview. What I like about these is that Vincent asks a question and then shuts up and lets the guest answer. Vincent is also good at asking questions which elicit interesting responses. Even without understanding most of the viralogy, there's a lot to be learned about how the scientific world operates.

As a young science student who never pursued a scientific career [nearly as far back as Vincent and Kostya], it never occurred to me to read or listen about other scientists' careers. Like this interview, I find many most interesting now.
May I recommend a podcast series from the BBC where theoretical physicist prof. Jim al-Khalili from Surrey University interviews scientists from all fields on their careers, some younger some older. The strand is called "The Life Scientific" with over 280 half-hour episodes in the can over many years and Jim is certainly as congenial as Vincent is in his interviews.
Ought to be able to catch it on most podcast apps [they are broadcast a few at a time within the Discovery strand on the BBC World Service but it's really hard to find individual episodes amongst a bigger mix of science themed programmes].

Yes I should always have water available. I'm not able to handle everything obviously.

WOW what an interview. My heart broke hearing about so many monkeys sacrificed in past and currently still in Russia. 😢

I really appreciate interviews with scientists and creative individuals in various aspects of medicine that our kids, grandkids and students rarely would be exposed to (in America's anti-intellectual, etc environment). This is news and information we all need to know. It brings us together globally just as Stings' song did, Russians Love Their Children, Too.
Dr. Vincent -- You are a treasure! Be safe!
BTW: Is that a Greek ending to Dr. Chumakoviridae's last name? Just asking -- have fascination with names and their evolution.

@@denkerdunsmuir3370 Perhaps a slight confusion with the way TWiV episodes have often been named with some kind of pun or verbal joke. The ending ~viridae is the taxonomic name for families of viruses - e.g. the coronaviridae which we've had quite enough of recently. Vincent has just added this on to Kostya's name. 🙂

Is the argument that a few hundred cases a year of vaccine induced polio is the price we pay to avoid a future widespread polio?
