@lucasgales3008 how? They usually hire within so wolf becoming gm. There's a rule in place if it in your contract you don't have to interview anybody else just like how they ravens went from Newsome to decosta as gm other teams do the same exact thing
Im not talking about mayo vs vrabel last year. I am talking about vrabel vs the less qualified minority candidates that we interviewed this year… there is no comparison and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous. The rooney rule its is disingenuous, its no fault of the patriots that they have to play these games before hiring the candidate that they actually want. Its also disingenuous to act like the pats process this year is a “sham” or that they dont care about the “spirit of the rooney rule” (whose purpose is to get more minorities hired) when we are literally just coming off a failed experiment with a minority coach… they obviously have no problem hiring minorities. They just want the best candidate this time and he happens to not be a minority.
There's following the letter of the rules, and following the spirit of the rules - they did one without the other, and I think his overall point is that they are not going through a meaningful hiring process of meeting with different people and trying to learn more about how the Pats roster and structure can be improved; instead, they're going after a head coach that they know and that is that.
Sure they did. Why not just grab a random guy off the street walking past the sub shop. Would that be following the rule? It is a terrible rule but the Kraft's agreed to it then choose not to follow it.
They followed the spirit of the rule. Minority candidates were not even getting FaceTime before. These "tokens" are exposure instead of hiring the same guy for the fourth job, which is what was happening before. Every opening the same five guys were brought in. Different now.
I really don't get the outrage logic here. The idea that if you just interview some large quantity of candidates, you're suddenly way better, and have a better chance to hit?! How many interviews have the Bears, or Jets done over the last several years? Did THAT help them find the perfect coach for them? If the Rooney rule makes them appear to do "sham" interviews because they KNOW they want Vrabel, what does doing ANOTHER 5-6 interviews accomplish? I'm sure they can pick up a few ideas here and there, but if it's at the expense of possibly losing their guy to another team why do it? Maybe they simply want to be decisive and know they have a TON of work to fix this team and they want the right people in the building working on the problem NOW not 3-4 weeks from now.
You’re absolutely correct dude this team has A TON of work to accomplish to just start turning it around. The sooner the better and vrabel is the best football mind we’d have since bill. He may be a better one in the nfl as a matter of fact. The sooner we start having a great football mind start steering us in the correct direction that’s for the better because if wolf is the top football mind in the building that’s not good
Is there any evidence that Vrabel is more than an above average coach. Is he a top personal guy? You should think about that before you let him shop for the groceries. There may be better prospects out there. I don't trust the Patriots to make the right choice. All of the evidence of the past 5 years points to them making a poor choice.
Breer they're not "stumbling into Mike Vrabel". This all looks pretty calculated to me. They have the #1 and #2 coaching candidates WANTING to work here. That's not stumbling. They're moving fast with Vrabel because he's the likely guy but if Ben Johnson knocks their socks off then they still have time to pivot. It's a two man race let's be real. Stumbling was hiring Jerod which you were supportive of until two days ago.
The thing is if we tell vrabel to wait and get done with Ben Johnson and then vrabel signs elsewhere and Johnson said he wants to stay in Detroit or go somewhere else then we are screwed. As much as I like Johnson I think vrabel is the best option for head coach especially if he brings a Good OC and coaching staff with him. I think he’d sign a offensive left tackle in FA and maybe try to get Higgins or Godwin and then get Tmac in the draft and then get another tackle in the 2nd round, and then go from there and get other needs on offense and defense
If vrabel comes in with a good set plan, knows who he wants as his coaching staff I believe they can get stuff done, get protection for Drake Maye and weapons and we have FA and good draft picks to get it done and potentially boost the defense
I would love Vrabel to coach the defense only if we get a new age offensive coordinator who wants to stay ahead of the times it is important to have a competent defense but in an offensive league we need a new offensive mind to help Maye flourish
Didn't the patriots hire Adrian Klem that off-season to become O-line coach? So the patriots "circumvented" the rules and still hired one of the candidates for a different job? Sorry, what am I missing here?
Sure they did. Why not just grab a random guy off the street walking past the sub shop. Would that be following the rule? It is a terrible rule but the Kraft's agreed to it then choose not to follow it.
If you want teams to wait till February to hire coaches (which is kinda ridiculous since that gives bad teams a disadvantage on scouting), then require in-person meetings with minority coaches. The rule is what the rule is. Patriots followed it. It does not hurt anyone. The interviews are still valuable. Sometimes the rule works great. Sometimes the rule isn't as helpful. Live with it. The rule is working overall. Cherry-picking instances where it does not work as well and getting outraged about it hurts the process even more.
We all have blind spots. Any one of us look in the mirror and think we can figure it out, everyone might see our blind spots except us and we repeat our mistakes.

It’d be different if there was a legitimate head coaching candidate that could fit the Rooney rule quickly, but Brian Flores can’t interview for a bit, and Aaron Glenn can’t interview in person. We are a top destination for coaches. Wanting to get the head coach nailed down early to give them more time to prepare should not be penalized.

Patriots satisfied the requirements of the rule, but super double plus big brain Breer says the Patriots think the rule doesn’t apply to them. The horse is dead Breer. Move on.
Albert, Albert, Albert. The patriots hold all the cards. Not vrable. There r only 32 of these jobs in the world. Vrable didn’t get a job last off season. Could be the same this season. Everything is about timing. Vrable shouldn’t overplay his hand here. There is always another guy.
This is like being mad at Mahomes for running the ball and pretending he’s going to go out of bounds and last second turning up field for extra yards, change the rule stop complaining for people taking advantage of the spirit of the rule
I expect this nonsense from Beetle. But Breer? Move on bud. You said the exact same crap the other day. A long process could just as easily lead to losing the best candidate because that candidate doesn't want to wait for you to finish your process. As for the new Glenn interview and the idea the Patriots are "covering their asses" (in respect to the Rooney Rule), maybe the Patriots see that Vrabel keeps taking interviews with other teams. It may have crossed their minds that Vrabel may go elsewhere and they need a backup plan.
It’s exhausting listening to this. Why should we have any confidence they know what they’re doing? We shouldn’t. It’s sports. We’re fans of the team. So we should work outselves up into a massive frenzy over them giving attention and exposure to minority candidates who no one was talking about before they gave them an interview? Isn’t the part of the intent of the rule to give exposure and to minority candidates who? I think you’re looking at it wrong.
I think breer is pissed not about this issue because every other team kinda does this at some point. It’s more so he was lied to the whole year from people inside the org about mayo staying and how he was doing. I think he’s salty that he was given phony info and he’s trying to stick it to the krafts.
This infatuation with Vrabel is sickening and a disservice to the Patriots. Vrabel is behind the eight ball in analytics, he hasn't been part of a rebuild, with the exception of Tannehill he has not develop a QB, he will always be looking for a coordinator for both sides of the ball, his offenses were basically King Henry rolling down opponents and hoping Tannehill completed a pass. Nah, he may be a "safe" bet, but he's not the future of the franchise...
Everyone in New England gets so attached to old players so I can see the excitement. Im a johnson guy but either of the 2 for me. Ben bejng first option

Ben might do it because he won’t get a better QB anywhere else and he will get a lot of credit if he can make this team very good again. He’s young. It will be a major upgrade on his resume if he can get the Patriots back into a winning program as the OC for Mike.

No he’s not he’s better dude he has good experience and is hands on with players and holds them accountable and doesn’t screw off like mayo did it would be way better especially if he brought a good OC and coaching staff with him
Breer how do the Krafts not deserve credit? They bought the team and hired the guys who drafted the players that created the greatest 20 year dynasty in all of sports? What more could you really ask for? Krafts have a chance to win it all if Drake Maye is a franchise QB and Mike Vrabel takes the next step as a head coach. Patriots could win one or more Super Bowls and be competitive every year for the next 10-15 years. Bill Belichick had a chance at a rebuild and got fired Jerod Mayo was a mistake that Kraft quickly corrected Brady won one ring but only played three years with the Buccs And as far as Breer saying the "rules don't apply to them" "They're making a mockery of the Rooney Rule" "They don't have a plan" The rules do apply to them, that's why they were forced to interview two minority candidates. The plan was get the Rooney Rule out of the way, interview the two candidates that realistically have a shot at the job (Vrabel, Johnson), and hire their next head coach before anyone else can. They're exposing a flaw in a dumb rule. Get over it Breer.
If anything I kind of feel bad for Kraft. I genuinely think Kraft liked Jerod and probably thought he could be a good coach so he put it in his contract thinking he could learn a few more years behind Bill. Then Kraft fired Bill and was forced to promote Jerod, ready or not because it would be a PR nightmare if he didn't hire him and hired a white guy. It's rumored Kraft realized early on that Jerod was in over his head so that's probably why he didn't let Jerod just spend the entire cap. I credit Kraft for letting Jerod prove it to him before letting him spend all the cap. Now we have it for the next coach. I think where this all went wrong is with Jerod and Robyn Glazer. I think Robyn and Jerod were conspiring behind Bill's back to fire Bill and promote Jerod. That's why when Jerod was hired there was a Glazer announcement and then she started putting up paintings, interviewing coaches, etc. Kraft is a victim.
Jerod wasn't a DEI hire in Kraft's eyes but Jerod was a DEI hire in Jerod and Robyn Glazer's eyes. I think Kraft liked that he was black but it was more of a cherry on top. I think Robyn and Jerod played Kraft.
They took advantage of an old man on some game of thrones shit and tried to make the Patriots woke lol not surprising given their more corporate people than football people. Probably why the interviews were "light on football"
I usually like Breer but I don’t understand his pure anger at the situation. The Patriots followed the rule completely, it’s a flaw with the rule itself, and the Patriots aren’t required to do anything beyond what they did.
Breer and Wolf and buddies. He gets inside information from him. This is a great sign that Elliot is gonzo if the Pats hire Vrabel.
I think he's just putting heat on the Krafts for misleading him on Jerod's job security. A lot of 'insiders' got pantsed.
@@WrathMania32I actually agree with you and @juanitomarquez2655 I think it’s a combination of both of those points

And as far as Breer saying the "rules don't apply to them" "They're making a mockery of the Rooney Rule" "They don't have a plan" The rules do apply to them, that's why they were forced to interview two minority candidates.
Hey Albert, they didn’t follow the rule last year. Didn’t hear you whining about that
I'm sick of Bert's crying. I usually like his work, but this DEI stuff is getting old.
cry cry cry
Breer a democrat can tell
The rooney rule is fucking nonsense. Circumvent at every opportunity.
