From what I remember, Aisha Tyler left the show because of other creative endeavors. I agree the show was much better with her, or at least, I preferred it with her in it, but that's one of the unfortunate drawbacks of a television series - sometimes the show needs to accommodate real life things, actors and writers leaving and such, because the show is created over a long period of time, and sometimes things just happen.
Ya I loved their relationship and wish the actresses hadn't left but ironically its great she did kind of. It's dissatisfying we will never care about Andrew like Melinda did but at the same time it makes the show better. Sure we don't feel the heaviness like she doesn't full brunt but the abruptness and Melinda who for who knows how many years loved and adored this woman lost her sudden. We can experience it from those late to the game but also feel her pain that we can't quite relate to in our lives cuz for us it was far too brief. It almost seems like the funeral you attended for a friend or family. They're hurting and you understand but can't quite connect. You see her struggles though. You want Andrea peace cuz while you don't fully care you dont want her hurt.
This scene broke my heart, Andrea didn't understand what was happening, until she had to find out by her friend that she died when the airplane crashed, she was reaching Mitch and didn't make it. At the start, she and Melinda were friends and sooner, she had to tell her that she sees people who passed away from disease or accident and since Andrea was confused, she learned that she died and that Melinda became her Angel of Death, to help her finish her unfinished business with Mitch before crossing over, it was hard to say goodbye, I miss her so much.

I watched this episode only once but have watched the rest of the episodes/seasons over 30 times. The writing, acting and setup was so powerful. I have to admit, I cried!

I started watching GW this year (after years procastinating to watch it). I just saw that scene today and I didn't understand even after Mitch hugged Melinda. Then when I realized what happened to Andrea I couldn't believed she was dead. I got angry at the show at first for killing such a good character but then reading a little about, apparently was a decision of Aisha to leave the show, and it appears that in the same year she starred on some movies. Probably she was offered interesting roles on other shows and decided that Andrea wasn't going to get much more space or evolution in GW and choose to leave, so the writers had her killed.
I’ve never been hooked on a series but this series definitely has me hooked. I’m on season 3 now on Hulu and I love it❤I have learned some things about death and the spiritual world. Definitely learned not to be afraid of the dead/ghosts even though it sounds easier said than done.

Only except that their characters never interacted with each other as Aisha Tyler’s Tara Lewis appeared in the show’s 12th Season onwards while Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character, Kate Callahan *ONLY* appeared in the 10th Season and left the show due to Jennifer’s real life pregnancy.

It's true . When I die I will become spiritual as an afterlife. I will go straight to heaven 😉 I am not afraid of death .I believe in ghosts ,out of body experience and stuff .. people are going to the light that means heaven with god and Jesus 💗🙏

Why did the actress playing andrea left the show?
She wanted to work on other big endeavors at the time so it was her personal decision to leave.
this almost made me quit the series and i did with season 3 with the big twist [was it the season 2 ending? can't remember]
