  • THIS VIDEO IS A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATION IN FLIGHT:
17-JUN-2022. An Air France Boeing 777-200 (B772), registration F-GSPQ, performing flight AFR008/AF8 from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (France) to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport, NY (USA) being at the gate called Ground controller and reported that they have been hit by ITA Airways Airbus A330-200 (A332), registration EI-EJL, performing flight ITY611 /AZ611 from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport, NY (USA) to Rome Fiumicino International Airport (Italia). They wanted the controller to cancel takeoff of ITA Airways 611. As a result, ITA Airways 611 departed and continued the flight to Rome.

    THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreet...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
Text version of communication - Made by Author.
Video editing - Made by author.
    HOW I DO VIDEOS:
    1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
    2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
    3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
    4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
    5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
    6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
    7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

As soon as the call came in, even if he was just receiving info he should have stopped the ITA flight to have it checked. He could have then got all the other info he needed. The Air France pilot made it clear where he was and being the ground controller he should have known where he was.

His English skills were rudimentary at best, and far below those of most European pilots, including AF pilots. I speak as someone who (a) is a native English speaker, (b) lived in a Francophone country and was not fluent but very proficient in French, and (c) flies with AF not infrequently. It’s not the responsibility of a JFK ATC controller to understand French - it was the responsibility of the AF pilot to be understandable by the controller.
We have the benefit of subtitles here and presumably not being in a loud environment, so have a much better chance of comprehending the AF pilot than he did.

    * No direct line of contact from the ramp person who saw the impact to any emergency frequency.

I doubt tower can be blamed for a call coming 27 minutes after the collision, them giving him an airline that doesn't even exist anymore to look for, the AF pilot speaking with very poor English. The controller clearly did in fact react quickly by first calling any "Alitalia" on the frequency, we don't know if he also told other controllers to look for an "Alitalia" to stop, and then he gave the AF call priority and gave them a phone number through which they can get to the bottom of what exactly happened.

After he pilot described the problem quite clear (maybe some words are broken). and you can def make out "stand 9" "Aircraft hit us" "cancel the takeoff" second time he was asked the controller stepped on him for most of the transmission. the third time the pilot was clear enough for any reasonable pilot to put context clues on "damage to aircraft" "stand 9" "cancel takeoff", a controller MUST be able to bring those words together. I agree some words might have been unreadable but in my opinion those were "filler" words anyway and had no affect in getting the point across. • @ax.f-1256
      @ax.f-1256 2 года назад +3

He was probably totally confused because:
-Air France 008 has landed quite a long time ago, so he had no flight strip anymore and didn't know who the hell he is speaking to.
-The Air france pilot keept saying 'Alitalia' out of habit. For the most time of his pilot career the large italian airlines was called alitalia.
But after Alitalia went bankrupt the new airlines that was created out of it is called ITA Airways not Alitalia anymore.
So the ground controller might have searched for an alitalia jet on his ground radar or flightstrips and found none, since he probaly forgot Alitalia is now ITA.
And he probaly didnt look out of the window if EI-ElJ still has the old Alitalia paintjob.
Alitalia ICAO code on radar and on the Flightstrip: AZA
      Callsign: Alitalia
ITA Airways ICAO code on radar and on the flightstrip: ITY
      Callsign: Itarrow
I think thats the main reason for the total confusion. The ground controller could have passed the info within seconds to the tower controller, since they sit litteraly next to each other in the same room within the tower.
I guess that's what created such confusion, a mysterious Air france talking about a seemingly non existent Alitalia Jet.

It's possible that the AF crew were running checklists at the time, AND the contact happened while cargo & luggage was being loaded -- which can be rather loud. After the preflight checklists were done, the co-pilot did the walk-around and noticed the damage to their tail.
By the time the IDIOT ground controller woke from his nap, it was too late -- AlItalia was already on the roll when tower was notified. IMHO, the IDIOT ground controller should be pulled from the line until he completes corrective remedial training.
I'm willing to bet that the AlItalia plane sustained damage, and its arrogant pilot/co-pilot was unaware of the damage. I was surprised on how quickly he answered Tower, "Negative!" -- instead, he should have had one of the flight crew check the left wing from inside the cabin, THEN report back.
My guess is that the AlItalia pilots were in CYA mode, so that they had "Plausible Deniability" IF there was any damage. However, I find it hard to believe that the Alitalia pilots didn't hear/feel the contact.
I'm glad this didn't end in a disaster.

Everyone giving atc the business doesn't understand that this recording isn't live, it's just the aircraft and atc's interaction, not every ground control transmission made on JOHN F KENNEDY AIRPORT. There's likely one or two DOZEN aircraft talking to ONE ground controller. Usually ground isn't going to give much priority to aircraft at a ramp making accusations, in this event specifically its probably easier and safer for the pilot to call the tower and speak to the supervisor off ground frequency

The ground controller really blew this.
But even when AF called town how did ITARROW not hear this.
Having said that AF for these reasons really needs pilots that can string an emergency sentence better.
GROUND AF on GATE 9, GROUND CREW HAS REPORTED AIR ITALIA HIT US AND COULD BE DAMAGED STOP HIS TAKE OFF IMMIDATELY......
That would have gotten a response from another plane if not ground ATC

I like to know why it took AF 27min to call the ground. They have marshals at their stand and should've been informed immediately. The second thing is the stupid question of controller to ITA : Do you have a damage on your aircraft? Dude ! the guy is heavy just leaving his stand. do you think his plane was shaken by a small contact? Just cancel the damn takeoff, send fire services to catch up with him on taxi way and inspect his aircraft ! This could've ended in a disaster

Honestly it's probable that the push back truck driver left the ITA 330 left the centerline and the 330 crew, even if aware of their vicinity to the Airfrance 777, wouldnt have had enough space to come back on the centerline, further from the triple seven. And it was a minor collision that no flight crew even realized of. The ground controller, on the other hand, was an absolute ass! If it were something more serious probably the crew would have realized the collision and, if not, a serious ground controller would have immediately passed the info to tower to stop the az crew from departing

The Airfrance pilot confused ITA for Alitalia which seized operations a year earlier, and the ground controller thought the Airfrance saw a ghost of the past hit them.
