those are guitar samples in the background, you can hear them being used in the industrial fields/oil rig level of supersponge. if you're talking about the other instrument, that's a clavichord-like sounding instrument you can hear in jelly fields

Having grown up with both SMB2 and SuperSponge, this is incredibly nostalgic, but it also hurts my brain.
