@@marvinfok65 They took many photos, and use special software to scan those photos, and then draw the fine details based on that. So everything looks so real because they are real.

The devs are standing on the shoulders of the giants. Journey to the West was literally dubbed one of the four great literature masterpieces in ancient China, another of which many western audiences are more familiar with - Romance of the Three Kingdoms. That's a major reason they have such mind blowing monster designs, many of them based on the novel. The producer / CEO, along with some other core members, were veterans at Tencent. He was the creative director of a Chinese MMORPG similarly inspired by the monkey king, before he struck out on his own to start GameScience in 2014. This game blew a huge storm in China, because not only it could be the first triple A game in the country (and thus, possibly changing the industry forever), it also blew international competition out of the water in terms of production. I have my reservations, simply because 1. these are just teasers and 2. even if what we see here are largely representative of the final product, production value does not automatically equate to a good game. Everything we have seen so far are curated linear action sequences. The superior technicalities and classic source material that the devs seem to be trying to sell, does not automatically make this a good game. Just some food for thought here.
Plus SON GOKU was inspired by som wukong. Crazy

@@ckd5098 they probably don't. Through they could have their own interpretation for the mythology, like many Japanese/Korean mythologies which were inspired or originated from China, one clear example would be that of the nine tailed fox lady.

1st for translation, the reason why subtitle's missed is probably that the two pieces are in-game ones and the game version is in Chinese. The former piece of 吃斋念佛，诵经打坐... was from the local caretaker, the odd birdman, laughing at wukong's reason for coming here to seek something precious ('that thing' he said), and said that since you were risking your life, I would just lead the way. The latter piece was 既见未来，为何不拜, from the fake Maitreya Buddha meaning that why don't you bow down to me buddha of the future, very arrogant. The narrator was also the fake buddha, telling his deceiving theory. (The subtitle translation even used some classical English, but the 'he's got it all wrong' was much too elegant. The actual translation for 放屁 is BULLSHIT)
2nd for the bosses, the GC announces that there will be 130 kinds of monsters and demons in the game, hoping the developers can work them out
3rd for the background, the story of the game is adapted from the original novel and may be very different, but reading the novel and watching the 1986 version TV series Journey to the West will certainly help a lot, especially with the mysterious elements, scenes, and demons. The TV series may seem outdated in picture quality or props, but the performance and music are excellent. Pay attention to the opening and ending songs.
4th for information in the description section, the story is set in the 6th century, Tang Dynasty, and it was the novel written in the 16th century as a gather of folklores and Wu Cheng'en's creation.
5th for the scenes, many scenes and sculptures in the trailers are actually fantastic restorations of real-life scenes in China. Searching Dazu Rock Carvings and Xiaoxitian Temple/Little Western Paradise for instance.
6th search 'suona唢呐' the musical instrument, find some masters' play, and you will thank me

If you are looking for a good STORY in a game...this story (Journey to the West) is over 400 years old, and is one of the most legendary pieces of folklore ever written

From what has been shown so far, I really want to play this game. Even if the game isn't as good as show. Don't get me wrong, I want it to be a quality product. One that is on par with, if not above, it's trailers. To see how Chinese mythology is represented in this game would be a joy to experience. While I know Black Myth: Wukong won't be released anytime soon, I want the Devs to know they have an excellent Tilte. I am looking forward to it's release.
Likewise Tim. From what I've seen, the gameplay is pure. While it may end up falling short of graphical standards, I will keep faith that Black Myth: Wukong will surpass our expectations once the game is finally released. To experience this Chinese mythology at game-breaking standards would be a dream, and I am looking forward to the release as well. Hopefully, the developers understand that they have one of the most anticipated Tilte's out there right now, and they use every bit of courage to deliver what this game is so daringly promising. Most of the dialogue in this new trailer appear to be lines spoken by various demons / minor deities taunting and insulting Wukong as they become obstacles in his literal westward journey.
Interestingly, at this particular timestamp, the speaker also addresses the rest of the party - Tripitaka, Sandy, Pigsy - which is why he mentions "you" four different times. But I think none of the trailers have showcased these other partymembers yet?? I'm excited for their eventual reveal!
if I am not mistaken, I think we were able to see a small glimpse of pigsy in the first trailer for this game. It was a very quick glance as wukong were using the vines to move around the terrain in a cutscene. Though this story isn't exactly about the same wukong whom travelled with the party, I hope that somehow they are on the story to since Pigsy and Sandy have their own personality that adds to the storyline. Pigsy being flirtatious, Sandy whom is straightforward and Tripitaka as the kindest soul restraining and teaching the monkey king.
This might not even be the real wukong... I hope to play as the pig though

@@kewlztertc5386 The only real figures in The Journey to The West are Tang San Zang and some other historical figures like Emperor Tang Tai Zong and Chancellor Weizheng.

Exactly, Japanese did some Asian dragons in their games, but nothing like this. The dragons should be like swim but not hover in the sky. Only Chinese know how their dragons move.

When game creators actually care about their coding and engines. We get this… epic… I think when I was QA testing other games the issues I always found with them is the environment. Collision issues, portaling, culling, scripting issues, pathing issues and stuck spots. If you have a solid environment that’s half the battle thank you for this preview

Market forces discourage the Chinese from false advertising when it comes to games, because being deceiving will destroy any chance of real sales for them. They do not have the luxury to behave like EA. Genshin, for example, like it or hate it delivered exactly what it promised and has made over 1 billion in 6 months on mobile sales alone. Of course, once the Chinese have been successful for a decade or two with a long lasting record THEN I expect them to emulate all the shady practices unless the increased global competition keeps everyone at least minimally honest

(there is also someone says yellow robe guy is fake Maitreya buddha, because Maitreya Buddha would never say such dark words to aganist Buddha) 2、these words are also message to players: your are seeing future game, it is time to kneel and worship. 3、拜 means kneel and worship in Chinese, it also sounds like "buy", it means you are seeing the game of future, it is time to buy!
in the actual novel, a disciple of Maitreya Buddha, steals some magic artifacts and goes to earth and becomes a demon known as "Yellow Brows Great King " and pretends to be buddha and his minions, various buddhas and gods.. this is likely who this guy in the video is

@ESO the Chinese mythology is Called the journey to the west The creatures are All Illustrated Incredibly specific to fit the book and mythological creatures and its Incredible. Check out the story you can learn so much it's a Wacky story but it's the most unique thing I have ever read in my life it's truly a UNIQUE experience

the dragon in the trailer will become the horse that Wu Kong's master rides during their quest to find the scripture. The staff that Wu Kong wields was taken from the Dragon's father (aka Eastern Sea Dragon King), The story is based off 1 of the 4 classic novels from Chinese History

Appropriate place for a fight against a Lung Dragon. They're called river guardians for a reason and it might be pissed that the river is frozen over.
The mythos of Sun Wukong is so incredible. His abailities and powers are insane. I highly recommend reading "Journey to the West". It's one of the better mythological stories out there. I could go into his powers, but it would take hours to write, so just read the book.
The lighting on the health seems to be a debuff or stagger effect on the opponent. I'm guessing since there is no visible effect on the screen for a stun or stagger or slowdown, it seems to be a debuff on damage from being electrocuted by the lightning attacks.
they might have not implemented the intended effects yet.
in fact, according to Journey to the West，there is 81 troubles (or I should say disasters?) in the journey, so if game science want, theoretically，they can design 81 bossess or more than that, and since there are so many amazing stories in journey to the west, so if they make this game great and earn enough money, they can make as many wukong games as they want. Then that will become a epic series, and they have to make several games to explain what they want to tell, cause Journey to the west is really a complex story.

random fact, that's probably not wukong that's being played. there's a theory floating around that it's actually sun wukong's doppleganger, the six-eared macaque, since in the first trailer, the killing blow on the wolf demon attempted by the "player wukong" was stopped by another "wukong", but this one, among other things, had a staff with gold bands, whereas the player wukong's staff does not. the other wukong's staff also has the name written on it, the Ruyi Jingu Bang.

I think the founders are a bit of a perfectionist after watching one of their interviews so I feel like its safe to say the final product should be as amazing. The guy is like "This is not good enough" at nit picks at the game. LOL so hopefully their OCD will help XD
To me it never mattered whether or not I sucked at Soulsborne games, or Nioh 1 & 2, it’s just about having fun creating a character, build, and getting through the game, show the gameplay because you’re having fun bro!

(Birdhead guy is actually the same kind of gods as the 13-minute demo version of the little Potato-head guy. The area of he is in charge of is Xiaoleiyin Temple. It comes from a place in the 56th chapter of the original Journey to the West. Most of the scenes in this preview are also based mainly here. But this Birdhead god's attitude is obviously indifferent to the other in comparison with the 13-minute version, and even advises the monkey to stay on track and not resist to gods. )

(Generally speaking, this is related to another literary work about Journey to the West, ‘the biography of Wukong’，don’t know if there is an English version, but strongly recommended it)
PS.the end title is “斗罢艰险又出发” which mean Overcome the difficulties and obstacles and set off again, which is a lyric from the theme song of the Chinese Journey to the West TV series.
(Taken from someone else's comment from another video) The "no easy way out" was a reference to the Journey To The West, in the story that golden thing is Buddha's Cymbal, Wokung got trapped under it at this very location, and it was the Master of Star Mansion Kang-Gold-Dragon saved Wokung... But in the game setting that Master of Star Mansion Kang-Gold-Dragon has already fallen (That dragon the monkey fought over the frozen lake), so this time no one will come to the monkey's rescue...

You should probably read Journey To The West, before playing the game. You will appreciate how much details, based on the novel, the developers put in the game even in this 12-minute trailer.

The journey to the west, hmm I wonder this is before wukong create havoc in the heaven or after he got released from the stone prison by the Tang monk, because Tang monk has a magical punishment item on wukong if case he is out of control. Also I wonder can he kill any creatures in this game? Based on the journey to the west story, he will be chased out from the quest if he committed murder
This is more like a side story of JTW or another interpretation of the JTW.
