Vlad does use some larger diameter cymbals. The 22" K Custom Special Dry Crash just left of center (to his left of center while playing) has such a killer sound. Darkly explosive & super dry with a wee touch of trashiness. All of his main cymbals are Zildjian K, K Custom or K Constantinople.
I really dig Vlad's playing. His playing is super busy and could easily be obnoxious if it weren't for his ability to keep it all in the pocket and make it groove. Cheers.

Those tiny secondary snares are fairly popular these days. Instead of the depth being unusually small it's more the diameter so instead of 13" or 14" it's 12". I'm not sure whether Vlad has a dominant hand outside of drumming. I always figured his split hand playing was primarily because he's a piano player and piano players rarely cross hands to play. There is a recent video of him playing some sort of electronic standup bass. I know he plays guitar as well and apparently he's written most of the music for the new album they are working on. Amazing guy.
