I personally didn't see this series as a reboot per say, more so it was just listed as Season 1 because Disney didn't want to have a flagship new series start with Series 14 on their platform. I also don't see a clear distinction between this and the rest of new Who, it just feels like Series 14 with expected background knowledge etc. What made Series 1 so great is while it acknowledged the history of the show anyone could jump straight in and watch without needing any knowledge about its history. This to me is Series 14 that will in some places be called Season 1.
Thays exactly it. I feel like they should have went all in on being more like series 1 to justify this number change. Sure it hadnt been 16 years since the last season like the revival but it would have worked better had they fully committed to the “reset”
Yea I really dont think it did. In order to understand some parts of this season (pretty minor but like when 15 mentions the giggle in The Devils Chord) you would need to have seen the 60th specials, but the specials rely on you having watched AT minimum Tennants 3rd series which I really dont think is a great start to the "soft reboot". In terms of being a good jumping on point I just don't see it especially with Sutekh being the big bad. I did quite like this season tho. I just think the marketing for it could've been much better.
I think that's the big problem, really. It's a mismatch of expectations. They set one expectation but delivered something totally different. Imagine closing your eyes and being told "I'm going to feed you a bit of nice, savory, steak." But instead, you get a spoonful of jam pushed into your mouth. It will taste *awful* because it doesn't fit your expectation - even if you really, really like jam. Setting appropriate expectations matters. We were all let down, and we're scrambling to try to find the good in something we weren't at all expecting - and that's not easy given how much this season doesn't taste like it was supposed to. That said, according to all three of the NuWho showrunners, NuWho "doesn't count" - it's just their own shit fanfictions to them. Viewing this series through the lens of "shit fanfiction" makes it make sense.

No
😂, that is definitely the simple answer.

Yea the season its self was a very middling to good season if it was series 14 but as a relaunch idk
