Ariana always performs with pre-recorded backing vocal tracks of her voice. In this concert, she incorporated a choir that is singing over her backing vocals to make the sound more live and present.

Most artists do that nowadays to compliment or enhance the backing vocals of their background singers. Michael Jackson was known for doing this from 1988 till 2001 during his live tours

Ariana stopped performing this live because she kept crying because it was mac millers fav song and she always thinks of him and often would cry, unable to sing it on tour. So she changed songs on tour once she decided she couldn’t keep doing it every night.
