    Best solidworks dome tutorial I have viewed - no magic numbers. But it is not geodesic. You can do great things with your layered domes that are impossible with geodesic domes but the geodesic ones have much greater repetition and simplicity. Much better are Sketchup tutorials that start from natural rectangles - fundamentally simple from start to finish. It shows the difference in use of a package that was designed in 3D from the start compared to one that converts 2D thought to 3D.

      I know, it was a userwish, He sent me a drawing with specific dimensions, so no calculation wanted and needed.

    Thanks for making this.
    I followed along and made some custom domes in CAD. It's fun playing with the different variables to create some really funky shapes. I'll probably stick with the domes based on normal polyhedrons though, but it's good to know this method of control exists.

    Hello Walden!!
    This is a great vid, thank you for posting it : ))
    Just one question: Once that the dome is created, can it tell you the total perimeter of the sum of those solids? I want to build a wire structure and I would like to know how much wire I will need and at which point or coordinates I have to solder so it turns out perfectly.
    Thanks again in advance!!

    Wolfgang am I correct in that his is a 2v design. If so then there are only two distinct triangle sizes correct? If that is true could one not safe a lot of time by just drawing the two different triangles and then assembling them into a dome. The vertex of each triangle could just be mated to the points of the sketch. I might be wrong in that the time to mate all triangles might take as long or longer than drawing the dome as one part. Please advise.

      Sorry, what is a 2v design? I was sent a drawing with these exact dimensions so I did it this way. If those triangles would have all the same dimensions you could do it much faster with just 2 patterns.

      @@wolfgang.walden.cad.training Wolfgang, A dome of 2v design just means there are only two triangles sizes used in the construction of the dome or sphere. I was just wondering if you knew if your drawing was a 2v design. I liked your work and found your approach very interesting.

      I see, sorry I don´t recall. But assume there were more than 2 different triangles, otherwise I would have done it in a different way

    Thanks this was great video. Really came in need. I got question if you can help. I wanna use this to build greenhouse and I gonna need to get right shamfer angles for triangles. Any easy way to calculate right shamfer?

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training

      Sorry, what would be the "right" chamfer angle??? You need a certain angle?

    • @ExtemporeMuzzzz
      @ExtemporeMuzzzz 6 лет назад +1

      Nothing wrong with sketch. Your sketch was amazing. I am talking about when adding thicken in triangle outer diameter is larger then inner diameter. I was wondering how much I need to chamfer from both sides of different triangle to make it perfect fit. Wood starts for square so need to adjust it. So looking way to know how to calculate chamfered angle for each triangle.

      I think I maybe got it .Have to test it later thou. 180-160,51= 19.49/2 = 9.745 angle I think...

    Hallo Herr Walden. Super Videos. Danke! Bin dabei mein uraltes Inventor-Wissen aufzufrischen und zu vertiefen. Nun habe ich von Solidworks erfahren. Welches Programm finden Sie denn besser: Solidworks oder Autodesk Inventor? Viele Grüße.

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training
      @wolfgang.walden.cad.training  6 лет назад

      Danke fürs Lob! Inventor ist benutzerfreundlicher und intuitiver zu bedienen. Solidworks ist bei der Flächenkonstruktion besser. Beide sind für Maschinenbauer mehr als ausreichend. Für Flächenkonstruktion : Catia oder NX.

      Danke für die Rückmeldung. Welche der Programme werden denn auf dem Arbeitsmarkt am meisten genutzt?

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training

      Hängt von der Branche ab - Fahrzeuge, Flugzeug, Schiff : Catia und NX der Rest dann Inventor, Solidworks.

      Sie kennen Sich ja wirklich gut aus. Inventor wird aber nach wie vor in vielen Branchen gerne genutzt? Frage deshalb so direkt, da ich mich ungerne in eine Software einarbeiten möchte, die vielleicht spürbar an Relevanz verloren hat.

      Schwer zu sagen, fragen Sie bei den Firmen die Sie im Auge haben einfach mal nach. Ich denke dass sehr viele Firmen Inventor verwenden.

    Hallo Hr. Walden. Wie entscheidet der Programm die seitliche Wanddicke, wo Sie ein Shell auf beide Seiten machen?

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training
      @wolfgang.walden.cad.training  3 года назад

      Wie bei jedem "Shell"-Tool. Die Flächen welche nicht entfernt werden erhalten alle die ausgewählte Dicke. Aber vielleicht meinen Sie auch etwas anderes.

    • @dionmar1
      @dionmar1 3 года назад

      Hallo Hr. Walden. Ja klar, das weiss ich. Ich meinte die übrigen seitigen Wanddicken, nachdem Sie das Shell gemacht haben. Die haben eine bestimmte Dicke. Wie wird diese Dicke vom Programm entschieden?

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training
      @wolfgang.walden.cad.training  3 года назад

      Sorry, welche "übrigen seitlichen Wandstärken" meinen sie denn?

    • @dionismarku8272
      @dionismarku8272 3 года назад

      Hallo Hr. Walden. Ich meine, die "leere" Dreiecken, die übrig geblieben sind, nachdem Sie den Shell 25 mm pro Seite gemacht haben. Nicht die 50 mm vom Befehl "thicken" am Anfang, sonder die übrige Wandstärke senkrecht, z. B. min 14.32. Das wollte ich wissen, wie der Programm entscheidet, was soll diese Wandstärke sein.

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training
      @wolfgang.walden.cad.training  3 года назад

      Ganz einfach, dass sind einzelne Solids/Volumenkörper. Wie schon gesagt dann bleiben alle Wände mit der gleichen Dicke stehen. Jedes "Dreieck" ist ein Körper, die sind nicht zusammengebaut/vereinigt. ;)

    • @wolfgang.walden.cad.training

      Without seeing your model? Maybe there are some gaps between your solids, than you could not combine or it is a parasolid problem, meaning your soilds touch only with an edge.

    Hi, I am an university student and I do need a help. I am struggling on the dome design for my final year project. I worked for 3 weeks already and I got nothing done. I am not going to be a civil engineer in the future therefore I think there is no point for me to know how to work on the dome design with solidwork. However, I need to finish this project for my graduation and I want to finish it. Can you help me for the drawing part please? I can pay you for that because I do need some help right now.

      @@wolfgang.walden.cad.training I need to draw a dome but have a different shape compare to the dome that you designed in this clips. The dome that I design is circular dome with 5 layers and 20 bricks in each layer. The objective of the final year project is to use a 3D printer to print out the bricks and combine it into a dome. The problem I have is that I couldn't draw a curve surface of the dome and draw it into 100 bricks in total rather than a huge dome with lines on it.
