That is wonderful job, however, the best part is what was mention about the car exhaust catalyst. It is so great that you guys are choosing to install it even if the is not required by law. That is the right thing to do!
You wont have any issues in Canada with e test but if your car is between 81 and 87 then it needs all factory emissions components. You don't need any emissions components if your car is older than 81. This is effective April 2017.
There is a decent gap between the pipe od and the id of the flange gap, if we dont have that fancy pipe end expander, do you just have to fill that in with weld then?
In Ontario if your car was originally equipped with a cat you are still required to use one. Just because it's 1987 or older means y don't need a e test for your license plates. You still need emissions equipment to drive on the streets. The Ministry of Environment can do roadside inspections and pull your plates for equipment violations.
The JDM bumper doesn't actually go that low - the RA24 is missing a weld-in filler panel that's present there on early north american/all JDM models that fills in that space below the bumper.
Any chance the folks that made your header can fabricate additional headers without having the vehicle. I'm building a 1980 celica RA40 with a beams motor. I would love to order a set of headers.
Dave, which GESI cat did you get? They have a non epa version for pre Cat cars, my car is exempt from emissions so l am considering getting that one. Which do you recommend for the Beams? @speedacademy
I've always heard that "stacking dimes" was solely for aluminum. Steel gets some pretty beads and nice colors, but it's not nearly the stacked dime look of aluminum...
Just LITTLE things can make a HUGE difference in the sound of a vehicle. On my used truck engine LS powered 85 cutlass G-body restomod, , at first i just put a super40 that dumped under passenger rear seat. IT SOUNDED ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. like an indian reserve junk vehicle barely running. BUT just adding 2 ft of pipe bent about 60degrees so same exact exhaust exited in front of passenger rear wheel, it now sounds like a BURBLING BIG BLOCK CHEVY with a MILD CAM PLUS it was about 50% less noise in the cab while driving and probly 50% louder to passers by on the passenger side of car.
That's a good point. We actually didn't start off planning to do the exhaust system, so the series kind of grew into a header and exhaust deal when it was originally conceived as just the header build.
You'd prefer an oval muffler, I assume? We may switch to one if we don't like the sound of this one, but first things first, we need to get Connie running :D
Speed Academy Yeah any more standard looking muffler with a normal 2.5" exit to match the rest of the exhaust. Those mufflers with the giant tips just look too modern. I love 80's cars and older cars in general and love when you can put modern parts on but maintain a classic look.
I think baffled type mufflers give the best sound (e.g., GT3, F-Type, i30N, Mini cooper JCW etc). They take out bass frequencies first, leaving a raspy and crackly sound -- which seems to be fashionable. So in aftermarket that would be say the Apexi WS2 N/A version, European Remus exhausts or the ATLP exhausts for Acura V6s for example. Whereas using large absorptive type muffler cans takes out high frequencies first, leaving a very bassy smooth sound (e.g., typical Magnaflow system sound).
Shane P because JDM as fuck thats why.. But for real.. Why do people ask such stupid qurstions... He put it on because its his damn build and he will do what he wants to it. The sooner people following this build realize that the better..
Oh we'll have sound clips eventually, don't you worry! It does suck that the engine's not ready to fire quite yet, but we will get back together for a final-final episode of this series with both cars running.
You mean tacks, spot welds are something else completely. And even if the exhaust is only tacked in place, it should still support itself. It might sag an inch or two, but it'll hold. ps. I work in an exhaust shop
Lol, let's just say I've never ever taped up a muffler and I've never droppen one either (after tacking, that is. before tacking I've dropped plenty) 😘
Not gunna make power with a 2 and a half inch pipe. Also you wouldn't smell like gas if you went catless . That's the stupidest fucking thing I've herd in a wile actually thanks for the laugh lol
Wait wait wait, you guys are aware that contrary to popular opinion, a larger exhaust diameter doesn't necessarily mean more power? Yes you want zero back pressure to eliminate resistance to flow, but if you make a pipe too wide on a smaller engine, the engine won't be producing enough exhaust gas to effectively utilize the cross sectional area. The gas is free to move around which causes turbulance in the pipe, which in turn reintroduces back pressure. With a beams only being an NA 2L 4cyl, in all likelihood the car will actually make more power with a 2.5inch exhaust than with a three inch.
James Felts how is a beams a low out put engine? Those motors with little more that itb's (this has that) headers (this has that) cams (don't know their plans for that....And a programmable ecu are known to make 265whp.....
pirsq314 I wasn't suggesting this isn't a nice build for what it is. But what it is, is a 2L making mid 200hp. This is not high for 2L engines in general. 2.5" can handle 300+. Bigger pipe is usually negligable gains (if any), increased weight, and likely more noise.
That is wonderful job, however, the best part is what was mention about the car exhaust catalyst. It is so great that you guys are choosing to install it even if the is not required by law. That is the right thing to do!
Connie's exhaust is looking great. Nice to see her getting well deserved love
2:38 - I love how Dave is asking about V-band clamps while he's wearing one on his T-shirt!
Hah! You're assuming Dave dresses himself in the morning ;)
more celicaa!!!.......THANK YOU GUYS!!
What a tease!! Seeing all that exhaust fab, but no noise!!
Oh man... Connie is going to be one sweet ride.
Man this little ride turning out NICE 👌🏻
california jay seems like a super nice guy
Nice work
Awesome video, really informative and interesting. I like it!

Nice transmission cross brace.
Xcessive Manufacturing made it
Those wheels need to stay on the Celica!
Wish the flow master kit I have for my 1965 mustang was a quarter as nice as this!
Would love too see the build process for a performance built exhaust and header.
There is a decent gap between the pipe od and the id of the flange gap, if we dont have that fancy pipe end expander, do you just have to fill that in with weld then?
props for using a cat

That's interesting. We always thought below 87 it was do what you want since its not emissions testable. Thanks for the info.
I wish I had some material and a welder. I have some good ideas for mufflers.
So you went from the high tech scan method to the same method the other guys used to make their header.
Put the cat in the back as the exhaust tip so you can see it glow red when making jam, like a rally car...
Is that an F-Swapped CRX in the background?
Manuel Salazar looks like it
KEEP ER TUNED
yup.
yes, turbo F20C RWD converted CRX, owned and built by Aaron the guy doing the header build on Vibrant's channel for their BMW 2002.
I would like to see a feature of that car :)
Manuel Salazar yes please
The JDM bumper doesn't actually go that low - the RA24 is missing a weld-in filler panel that's present there on early north american/all JDM models that fills in that space below the bumper.
Ditch the fart can muffler looks a bit off on that car. Do a nice oval with single or twin tip :)

Dave, which GESI cat did you get? They have a non epa version for pre Cat cars, my car is exempt from emissions so l am considering getting that one. Which do you recommend for the Beams? @speedacademy
I would've like to see a dual tip exhaust like the old Japanese race cars
I've always heard that "stacking dimes" was solely for aluminum. Steel gets some pretty beads and nice colors, but it's not nearly the stacked dime look of aluminum...
very niccccce
Cute header bro.
LMFAO
I am thinking they spent $4K on the exhaust
Watching these years on...what happened to Moose?

Where is the s2000
In our shop, under a cover, waiting for an engine rebuild.
Nice job. Too bad the "digital" method was only used for the header build.
That's a good point. We actually didn't start off planning to do the exhaust system, so the series kind of grew into a header and exhaust deal when it was originally conceived as just the header build.
Why a fart can exhaust on a classic? Although I love the v band idea.
You'd prefer an oval muffler, I assume? We may switch to one if we don't like the sound of this one, but first things first, we need to get Connie running :D
Anything that's not fist fuckable would do!

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO COMPLETE THE EXHAUST BUT HAVE NO SOUND CLIPS. SHAME.
Oh we'll have sound clips eventually, don't you worry! It does suck that the engine's not ready to fire quite yet, but we will get back together for a final-final episode of this series with both cars running.
How about a new shirt with "chirps" from the internet printed on it?
That rear muffler on that car is a terrible option. The quality effort that has gone into the car....and then that muffler......
If it turns out to be not ideal for sounds or looks we'll certainly change it out.
Sound off ! lets hear both cars rip down the road. :)
That may be a challenge since Connie still needs a lot of work done to her
Speed Academy thats okay. Your doing a great job ! Soon enough.
Dang... I thought he was gonna 3d scan koni's undercarriage
What are emissions tests lol... Never even been required to have one done on a vehicle in canada..
Who makes the exhaust parts again?? Vibo..vibrator....vibby?? Nice work just wish you mentioned the name of the company so I could buy some parts...
Jay Thornton Aha! You know with it written on T Shirts, walls and mentioned every minute I guess I must have missed it....
Hey i love your channel ive been following for awhile is there any way i can get some of my music on your videos
sure, send us a link to your music and we'll check it out, thanks!
Why do Canadians call it a sail-E-kuh and Americans call it sail-uh-kuh?
because that's the way it's pronounced in every country except America.
Americans call it a sell-i-kuh
Cell ik ah
sell uh cuh
Toyopower cell I ka...
Combustion symphony LOL
Ugh. I hate those over axle sections.
Just shoot out the side
Street car life...
Ohh yeah ehh just spend 400.00$ plus on a cat ehh.
Most of us are on a budget and a 400.00 Catalytic converter is insane.
Fuck putting on a CAT, and find a shop that has a pipe bender vs a million welds.
That dude really needs to consider the risks of skin cancer when TIG welding... Specially if thats how he works on a daily basis.
1:37 the cat has nuthin to do with you getting out of a car smelling like gas. A cat isn't gonna make a difference on a carbed vehicle.
but their engine is fuel injected and probably has OBD2
Ok, but then why is he whining about smelling like gas? How come neither header seems to have o2 sensor port?
Usually really like all SA videos but have found these header videos very very dull.
Is the pace of them not entertaining enough or do you find the content not interesting? Feedback is always welcome.
What's with the porno music?
why not remove the rape and show off the final product?
Ace Futura don't think it's been hung yet. :) just the pipes spotwelds that's holding it together 😉
You mean tacks, spot welds are something else completely. And even if the exhaust is only tacked in place, it should still support itself. It might sag an inch or two, but it'll hold.
ps. I work in an exhaust shop
Ace Futura yeah sure, tacks.
Yeah it might, but is it worth it if it breaks?
PS. I work on a ship. 😘
Lol, let's just say I've never ever taped up a muffler and I've never droppen one either (after tacking, that is. before tacking I've dropped plenty) 😘
A cannon! Grrrr nooooo!! 😡😡😡

laminar flow is the word of the day people!
Even my 2015 GTI made me smell like gas with no cat. I'll give up 2hp to not stink. 2.5 inch is huge for a low output NA engine.
